I'm buying a gift for my nephew and I want to get him something good, but he doesn't have a good computer. Any good games that can run on just about any computer?
Good Games for Crappy Computers?
Possibly World of Goo.
Heroes of Might and Magic III, although I doubt that will be on store shelves. It's on Good Old Games for $10 though, so if you want to give your nephew a digital gift you could do that.
However, Disciples II, Galactic Civilizations II, and Sid Meier's Civilization III can all be found in your local Big Box Retailer's budget section, and those are all excellent games.
There is a $10 pack of that includes Age of Empires & Age of Empires 2 plus two expansion that should run on any system from that age. I picked my copy up at Wal-Mart but they are available elsewhere, too.
Also Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is a Civilization title that's not Civ due to a fallout with the publishers at the time. It's a very deep game.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was a favorite of mine on the original Xbox, but there is a PC version out too that was released back in 2002.
Deus Ex and to a lesser extent Deus Ex: Invisible War are two good FPS shooters with a tad more depth than the average "blow stuff up" game.
There is a Fallout Collection at Amazon for $15.00 USD which includes Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics
Balder's Gate: 4 in 1 Boxset at Amazon for $35.00 includes BG1, BG2, and 2 expansions.
Anything on DOSBox should run on a crappy computer. As for the actual games, I'd go with Fallout and some SCUMM games.
" @Video_Game_King said:From the looks of it, a six year old computer could handle that. My computer's a piece of crap, but it can run games like this with no problems whatsoever." Anything on DOSBox should run on a crappy computer. No, there's a lot of stuff that will choke in DOSBOX if you have a computer several years old. Blood, for example. "
From the looks of it, a six year old computer could handle that. My computer's a piece of crap, but it can run games like this with no problems whatsoever. "My last computer was 5 years old couldn't even run Doom 1 properly in DOSBOX (obviously other ways to play the game).
Ah, touche. I guess we won't know the winner until this guy posts his specs, and a resident PC geek translates that into English :P.
Yeah I'd be happy to get an old classic game too, just struck me as odd. I've never heard of anyone giving or recieving old games as gifts before.
