GotG Round 1: Mass Effect 2 vs. Crusader Kings II

ME2, but Crusader Kings will take it by a landslide nooo doubt.

I'm voting for Crusader Kings II, if only because very few people will, and I don't hold Mass Effect 2 in the regard that roughly 98% of the community does.

Mass Effect 2 all the way! I've never played Crusader Kings though, so I feel kind of bad for it if it's legitimately a good game.

The second one because it has the word "Kings" in it.

I can't think of two more similar games, truly a contest of evenly matched and quite comparable contestants.

@cale: If the Last of Us wasn't a PS3 exclusive and came out 4 years ago it would probably win. Though of course there's always a game like Vagrant Story out there that's just a shitload better than every other game to come out in its generation and it would lose a poll battle because people are stupid and polls are for stupid people.

I really hope Mass Effect 2 doesn't win this overall. I can see why someone would like the game, though I really don't understand why they'd like it to the degree that so many people do.

I never played Crusader Kings, but it seems cool. However, Mass Effect 2 is everything I could want from a science fiction game, and is my second favorite game of this generation.

I voted Crusader Kings 2, because Crusader Kings 2.

By the way, I liked the original Mass Effect better than Mass Effect 2.

Why is an extremely niche game like Crusader King's 2 even in the running? Not that it matters, Mass Effect 2 being against it round one basically means it is going to get beat like a rented red headed step child one arm one legged mule.

I really like CK2 but holy fuck is that shit way too janky to be going up against anything else in this bracket, let alone a monster like Mass Effect 2. The menus are mega-obtuse and unfriendly in a way that only watching someone else fumble through could begin to illuminate. I think CK2 is a lot of fun but it's another situation of a worthy mention but probably deserved defeat.

This is so dumb. Why not just do Mass Effect 2 vs. Dark Souls and be done with it? Why even put niche games in the bracket?

This was hard. I ended up going with Mass Effect, but Crusader Kings is a phenomenal game that more people should try.

I don't know if the pairing of games is random or not. Some of it looks super random like this one or MGS4 vs Geometry Wars while others like MK vs SF4 and Dota 2 vs LoL does not. Anyway Crusader Kings II and Civ 5 would have made for a more interesting pairing.

In any case Mass Effect 2 is fantastic either way and will likely end up winning the whole thing.

Also where's @animasta to tell everyone here how crazy they are?

I have to question the purpose of putting such niche games like Crusader Kings 2 or Dragon Quest IX in the bracket when they clearly stand no chance against any other games.

That's like saying why allow teams from the Ivy League into the NCAA tournament because they can't compete against the teams from the major conferences. This is how 64 spot brackets work. There are always entrants that stand no chance of ever winning even a single round, but when you have 64 places that is inevitable. If seeded correctly, it's typically not until the final 16 of a 64 entrant tournament that you really start getting tough matchups.

Mass Effect 2 has Mordin. He is the very model of a Scientist Salarian, and as such, cannot be beat.

Crusader Kings, Bioware games have never especially impressed me. I mean, they're fine, but the plot and characters are so cookie-cutter and barely change from game to game. There really isn't any game like Crusader Kings, though, even with it's many faults.

Super easy decision here. ME2.

ME 2 is probably my GotG so this is a pretty easy pick. I'd abstain from voting since I haven't played Crusader Kings, but I'm quite certain that it doesn't stand a chance anyways and I want to see the poll results. There are many games in these polls that I wish I had played more of.

I voted Crusader Kings 2 despite not actually playing it and really really enjoying Mass Effect 2. I don't really understand why I did it at this point, it just felt like the nice thing to do.

I love CK2, but I gotta vote for Mass Effect here.

Sorry Crusader Kings, you seemed fun, but Mass Effect 2 is one hell of a game.

I hear good things about Crusader Kings 2 but I have yet to actually play it. Mass Effect 2 is the best Star Trek experience of the era. The Abrahms Star Trek movie was great too but Mass Effect 2 was taking it beyond that level of detail. If not for that third game it would've been my all time favorite sci-fi experience. I feel like this vote comes down to your preference for either a messiah complex or a god complex.

Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game of all times. It's an easy choice for me.
