I'm really hoping for Dark Souls, but unlike some other games that shouldn't have lost, I won't be super disgruntled if this one does, because Street Fighter IV was kinda important for rejuvenating fighting games.

I dislike fighting games and I love fantasy role playing games. Dark Souls is pretty good.

I love what SF4 did for the FGC even if it's become one of my least preferred fighting games, and man I played way too much of that game to not pick it. Then again, I consider Dark Souls one of my favorite games of all time so I'mma say fuck that noise and vote for it instead.

I literally don't care which of these wins, because either would be fine. Both are fantastic games.

Even though I'm not a big fan of Street Fighter(that should be Mortal Kombat's spot, god dammit!), I still don't think Dark Souls is a good game.

This is fucked. Street Fighter IV is a far, far better game.

Street Fighter IV is an incredibly good game, and I'd even say the better and more important game, but I enjoy Dark Souls just a bit more. And I'm not into fighting games so my bias wins here.

Both of these games are good but I had more fun with Dark Souls so it gets my vote. Sorry fighting game people.

Both are great, but I had to pick Street Fighter IV because of how much time I've spent on it, and how close to perfect it is. I still need to finish Dark Souls, I might pick it up again soon.

While Street Fighter IV really did lead the way for the recent resurgence of fighting games, thereby cementing its place in history, fighting games had existed before, and ultimately SF4 didn't do a lot to change how they functioned in any particularly meaningful way. At least, in my opinion.

On the other hand, the Souls series, and I would make this case whether it be Demons or Dark, is something of a new and unique sort of game. This doesn't automatically mean it's better than SFIV, but in the context of a game of the generation argument, I think it's very important to note that.

Also, I love the shit out of Dark Souls, so voting for that.

I love Street Fighter IV, but while it did revitalize the fighting game genre, it didn't exactly make them any more accessible. I've been playing that game off and on throughout the last 4 years and I'm still not great. The time I've spent with similarly skilled friends is fun, but that requires similarly skilled friends.

Dark Souls is the greatest game ever made easily in my top 5 games of this generation if I were to make a numbered games of the generation list. Which I'm not. Of course, Street Fighter IV would probably be in the top 10.

Obviously what we need is Street Fighter set in a Dark Souls-like setting, where you buy everything from Dhalsim at the Base Shrine before killing him, then you go out and piledrive ninjas for Bison Bucks.

Fighting games are still a semi-dead genre where only like 2-5 big series are still going (similar to RTS), and while SF4 was successful due to leaning really hard into SF2 nostalgia, it's not anywhere near as interesting as Dark Souls.

Street Fighter IV is one of the most influential games of this generation and a damn good game, Dark Souls is a good game.

Tough matchup but Street Fighter gets my vote. That game saved an entire genre.

Both are great games, but considering we went from having a genre that was dead and buried since the days of the late 90's arcades, to one that was thriving for the past few years, all thanks to SF4, I think my vote has to go to SF4.

Also Dark Souls winning currently is fuuuuuuuccccckkkkkeeeddddd up; lots of people like it (including myself) but it's kind of a "popular niche" game.

Street Fighter IV brought back an entire genre of gaming. I think that deserves a bit of credit. My vote goes to it.

Wait I still like UMvC3 way better anyway.

As much as it did revitalize popularity of the genre, Street Fighter IV didn't bring the entire genre back. Other fighting games by other developers continued to keep the genre going in those years when Capcom took a break from serious fighting game development.

SSFIV made so SOOOO much hype and taught me the majesty of fighting games.

I really think people exaggerate the influence of Street Fighter 4. It may have done wonders for the genre competitively speaking, but there were a ton of fighting games I really enjoyed while Street Fighter took a break. Plus a lot of what people liked about it is that it was so similar to Street Fighter 2. Also the competitive aspect is like the only thing it did right, granted, that's the only thing that most people care about, but they could've done a whole lot more with the complete package.

I have not played Dark Souls though, so I suppose I just won't vote on this. (Anyone want to hook me up with a copy of Dark Souls???)

Sorry guys, fighting games are not "revitalized." They never left (Evo has always been popular), and Street Fighter IV is basically an updated SF II. Dark Souls is a masterpiece of design, art, melee combat, and personal achievement. The nuanced and integrated multiplayer COULD NOT HAVE EXISTED in a previous generation.

SF IV is good. Aside from graphical fidelity, it could have been done on the Dreamcast or PS2. It's not the game of the generation.

EDIT: Also, Dark Souls came out in 2011, not 2012. Might want to update that info at the top.

It's gonna take a lot to convince me that Dark Souls shouldn't go to the end. It's one of the most unique experiences I've ever had while playing games. It's probably the only game I'll literally watch streams of just because I enjoy watching people becoming invested in it (like Jeff Green).

Dark Souls for me. I'm a casual fighting game fan but SFIV does nothing for me and took too much of a step back from SFIII:3rd Strike and felt like it was pandering too much to fans of SF2.

Street Fight 4 was important because it helped us realize how shitty DLC and re-releasing the same game over and over is.

Just a heads up @mracoon, Dark Souls was a 2011 release. It was the PC version that came out in 2012.

I imagine Street Fighter IV would have fared much better if not for the horrific misstep that was Arcade Edition, which decimated the community. Even I, a person who picked Street Fighter IV in this poll, haven't gone back to the game since quitting after the first few weeks of AE's release. I like Dark Souls a heck of a lot, so I'm fine with it advancing. I only feel like I should say that Street Fighter IV is a near-perfect fighting game that single-handedly made 2D fighting games matter again. This is far from a no-brainer.

Dark Souls for me. It honestly changed the way I approach video games in general.

Dark Souls is GotG, so it kind of has to win here.

While AE and the Yun army it spawned wasn't great, I can't imagine it would really have had that much of an effect here. The vast majority of people on this site probably never played SF4 past Vanilla. I would say you should come back though! The 2012 patch to AE made it the best version of the game so far, I think.
