GotG Round 2: Fallout 3 vs. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

I upgraded my PC for Witchman 2. I stared at high-res rocks and it was glorious.

I built my PC to play Witcher 2 and loved it. I really liked Fallout 3 but not as much as Witcher

Never played either, but Fallout 3 interests me more.

Hmm a game that shitted on my childhood or a game that set a new high bar for western RPGs as well as being one of the 2-3 best looking games this "gen"?

Well I haven't actually played The Witcher 2 yet, but I loved the first game a lot and apparently it's even better than that, which would be amazing.

Fallout 3 I've played and is probably my favourite game of this generation. Lets say for the sake of this poll I'm comparing the first Witcher to Fallout 3, in which case Fallout 3 wins, but if 2 is as good as everyone says it is, it might be a little tougher but of course since I haven't played it, Fallout 3 takes the cake.

I didn't play Wicher 2, but I squeezed just about every drop out of Fallout 3 and loved most of it, I'll vote that way.

Witcher 2 was an excellent game I greatly enjoyed. Fallout 3, however, is right up there as one of my top 5 favorite games ever. It gets my vote, easily. At the time Fallout 3 blew my mind, and I still go back to it and play it to this day.

Come on people. Do the right thing and vote TW2. There isn't one single developer as dedicated and passionate as CDPR and they have built one of the best games ever with TW2, Fallout 3 and its glitchy, ugly, buggy self can't hold a flame to TW2.

As a huge fan of the first Witcher, I gotta say The Witcher 2 sits down a peg compared to that. That and I love the hell out of Fallout 3. The Witcher 2 has polish, and from a studio that had the first game as their past effort no less, but Fallout 3 was just amazing at the time. Luckily didn't run into any technical issues that I can remember either.

Fallout 3 is the best game.

Terrible writing, terrible choices, terrible combat. vs. great writing, great choices, great combat Witcher 2 win. Fallout 3 pales in comparison to the originals.

Got some very fond memories of playing fallout 3 and listening to hitch hikers guide to the galaxy audio book, a great combo. Witcher is an obviously more well made game but I just can't not vote for fallout.

Oblivion with guns was pretty great. The Witcher 2 showed how western RPG's should be made. Plus making a AAA game with mature rating, where anyone else would compromise any property, to make more bux.

That's a really tough choice, because those two are really nothing alike beyond that framework of running around doing quests for people. No part of Witcher 2 ever dragged for me though (unlike all those effin' Super Mutants while traversing the ruins of DC), so I voted for that. It's not like Skyrim won't be representing open-world Bethesda RPGs in the next round (and beyond, probably).

I can barely get out of the vault without the game crashing every 2 seconds. What a buggy game. Witcher 2 runs smooth and is awesome.

Man, this poll is bumming me the hell out. I love Fallout 3, I really do, but it doesn't do a single thing better than the Witcher 2. I can't think of a time this generation that I was more awestruck than while I was playing the Witcher 2. If it doesn't at least make it to the next round, y'all done fucked up.

It would have been a harder choice if it was New Vegas.

Another case where I could go either way. I went with Witcher 2 because goddamn is that game great on Xbox. I enjoyed what I've played of Fallout 3 but I never had the time nor diligence to finish it.

I picked The Witcher 2. This was a tough one for me.

Anyone remember when I spit non-stop venom at Fallout 3 before launch because of all the changes to the franchise...and then made a weird random decision to buy it on launch night just to see if I was right...and they only have the $80 lunchbox edition of it...and I fell the fuck in love with that game?

Yeah, I remember that. Therefore, Fallout 3 holds this really interesting and special place for me.

However, if we're going to talk about outright better RPG mechanics, better combat mechanics, better storytelling, better graphics, better EVERYTHING, The Witcher 2 is every one of those and then some. CD Projekt Red did a LOT with The Witcher 2 to prove that you can make a mature open world RPG that really shines no matter where you put it. Forget the little debacle at the beginning with the DRM issues on PC. They patched that out later. They learned their lesson. Then they released it on Xbox 360, where it was successful as well. That game proved A LOT.

Wait, Fallout 3 is winning!?

Witcher 2 seemed legit, but I never finished the story. And when it comes down to two of the best action RPGs of the past decade, you kind of have to come up with whatever bullshit reasoning you can to put one ahead of the other. Fallout 3.

I can't believe witcher 2 is losing. That game was so impressive, it had a far better story and much better moral choices than fallout 3. I spent a ton of time wandering the wasteland, but when I compare it to the experiences in witcher 2 it just doesn't hold up quite as well. Plus remember that final choice in fallout 3 with the radiation room, where you really didn't have any agency? The Witcher 2 had mad agency, it let you make actual choices that impacted the story, and wasn't afraid to withhold content from you because of something you did.

Although based on the comments here I'm not alone in thinking that the Witcher 2 is the better choice.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised that Witcher 2 isn't winning considering WAY more people played Fallout 3.

I read the comments first and saw that people think that Witcher 2 isn't getting a fair shake. So I voted for Fallout 3. THAT IS WHAT YOU ALL GET FOR NOT GIVING LITTLEBIGPLANET THE LOVE IT DESERVED!

Now if this were Fallout: New Vegas, that's a much harder battle...

I am constantly amazed at the reality where Fallout 3 didn't have those long segments of you going through identical metro tunnels, fighting super mutants with your hunting or chinese assault rifle, or an ending that wasn't one giant middle finger to the player. I'm sorry, for as much as I enjoyed that game, there seems to be a concerted effort to ignore the myriad of problems that it has and proclaim it as the golden standard for Bethesda's style of RPG.

Witcher 2 is flat out the better game. Fallout 3 is janky and pretty weak on the story front, New Vegas is also super janky but kinda makes up for it with that Obsidian sauce.

A lot of these have just been popularity contests instead of taking into account different merits such as influence and the quality of the titles. Bethesda make some nice worlds but they sure as hell do not back them up with good gameplay. I really hope they learn how to make a good combat system next generation.

Even though I spent more time in Fallout 3. The world and the characters of Witcher is much more interesting. Also the gameplay doesn't suck.

How is fallout 3 winning? I have to assume it as from people who played it and liked it (it wasn't terrible, so thats fine) and never played the witcher (2). Because fallout 3 is an ok game, and the witcher 2 is agood, possible great one.
