January NPD Winner: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

FAQ:

• That's not fair! It's the first 2D home console Mario game in over a decade versus a hardcore shooter! MW2 will be mauled!Not true! MW2 has gotten a ton of hype, and broke the UK's all time record for most copies sold in the first 24 hours: Over 1 million. That's double of the previous record holder, GTA4. This will be a very close call.
• MW2 is a multiplatform game. Which version do we use against NSMBWii?In the context of the question, Reggie referred to the 360 version, so that will be the one we will be use to judge.
• Can we use reviews instead of sales? No.
• What if I lost and don't want to use that icon? Make your own. But it has to show you lost.
  
• What if I entered the contest, but I simply don't want to admit I lost? Then we will make fun of you.

i think that it will win more games. it is a very good game i have to say.  somebody is going to have to PM me when this happens as i don't remember the threads that i replied to the other day.
 
i just have to say that we should also have to edit our bio to say like i lost the who will sell more thread. it is the internet it is serious business.

Modern Warfare 2. I can't see how Mario can beat it.

Tough call, this should be interesting; both games are going to sell a ridiculous amount but I reckon that virtually everyone with a Wii will own Mario by January.

The bulk of Nintendo Wii owners will likely pass up NSMBWii I reckon. I may be wrong though.

I will go with Modern Warfare 2 too. NSMBWii looks like a cool game, but I think that a lot of people will most likely ignore it

Put me down for Mario, though it seems that Nintendo has done no major advertising for the title. I think word of mouth and christmas sells will pull it through. 
 
Also keep in mind that to win this, basically the Wii sells have to outsell only the 360 version (which I'm assuming is going to be the leading SKU, sales wise) rather than the whole 11-15 million that MW2 is suspected to sell this quarter.

Although MW2 has broken all these first day records... I'm still backing Mario Bros in this fight. If it was every version of MW2 I might say differently, but as it's only the 360 sales that SMB has to contend with... I'll stick with Mario.

initially i heard this story as him saying that it would sell more than the 360 version, which i thought no way. now it seems he said 360 or ps3 (but not combined)... i still doubt it will sell more than even on ps3 to be honest, put me down for mw2

I'm pretty sure Mario will, eventually.  MW2 has had ridiculously strong sales, and will probably beat it around Christmas time, but it'll quickly die down.  Like Nintendo have been saying, many of their games continue to sell strongly for a very long time.  New Super Mario on the DS is still doing very well, so I think the Wii one will eventually over take MW2.
 
But if you're only counting the next few months, then MW2 will do better, easily.

Im not to sure about January, NSMB Wii will probably outsell MW2 in the long run though. It is more of an evergreen game then MW2.

i could see New Super Mario Brothers Wii out selling MW2 by november 2010. look at lomg term Mario Kart Wiii sales that didn't have a great start but they are selling that quite well.

I'm gong to go for Modern Warfare 2, simply because it broke UK sales records. It looks like it's going to do extremly with Christmas coming up.
 
I'm sure they both will perform well though and I think New Super Mario Bros Wii will sell more eventually.

My gut is to go with Mario. So yeah seeing how well New Super Mario Bros for ds did i would say mario.

Put me on the Mario list, if no other reason than "why not".  I actually think it will take longer than 3 months and that Mario will win in the long haul, but it doesn't really matter.  I am not getting either game at this stage.  I will have Mario within 6 months and MW2 probably never.

NSMB Wii will beat the PS3 version of MW2. Not the 360 version.

Also, it would be sweet if Staff got in on this and changed everyone's icon for them and made them unchangeable so no one could bail out.

Put me down for NSMB Wii... I have cousins and friends who are girls that are excited as shit for this. And yes, these are girls that do their makeup right pretty, go out to bars every few nights, just regular girls. There is simply more people with a Wii, and come on, it's a Mario game.

Lol took me a second to see that you were referring to Fedor, UFC is the mainstream place to go for mma, if you think of mma you think of UFC, Fedor has defeated 2 of there previous heavy weight champions and has defeated one of there top guys Antonio Nogueira twice with ease, his only competition would be Brock Lesnar who should be in his own weight class but would be a good fight, Brett Rodgers would easily put up a fight against Brock I'd like to see that before Fedor.  If you weren't referring to Fedor then ignore any of the above. "

call of duty sold 4.7 million copies in just the USA and UK in one day.
mario is not going to sell half that in the next 2 years.

I was. I know what he's done in the past but recently, there's been talk that he's ducking Lesnar and taking the deal with Strikeforce so he can fight easier people and keep his legacy intact. "
