Played the demo - Meh Effect 3 is what it is.
Guess which game will get the first 5 star review this year
I gonna pull for a dark horse here and say Quantum Conundrum provided it makes it out in Q1 as expected. Skullgirls has a chance as well as I think the sound, UI design, in depth tutorial mode, and variable team sizes should appeal to reviewers who aren't necessarily hardcore fighting game players.
comments on others listed in this thread:
-I don't think ME3 will be deserving of top scoring but it may get it anyway from AAA genre game bump, depending on who draws the review job.
-SFxT is waaaaay too much of an ugly clusterfuck to pull 5 stars. Even if it is a Capcom game.
-Syndicate? Come on now....
-SSX, yep, that one has a good chance judging by GB enthusiasm coming off the preview a little while ago.

Quantum Conundrum looks great; I almost forgot about it before. I honestly hope it does get 5 stars; it seems like Portal 1 with a really quirky art style.

AND IT IS RAYMAN ORIGINS VITA! Dammit, Alex, we really were banking on a new release.
But does this review count? This is just a straight port of Origins, it's even missing multi player.
EDIT: Ahh, you know, the thread title does just say "game". Never mind.
Rayman Origins: Vita Version
BOOM I WIN THIS.http://www.giantbomb.com/rayman-origins/61-31721/reviews/?review_id=467
What prize do I get?
There were two pages of this forum post left. Totally jumped the gun.
If I was to guess a "new" game I would probably say Lumines. That probably doesn't qualify as new but whatevs!

Edit: Rayman Origins on Vita doesn't count. If Rayman got a 4/5 on the other versions last year and a 5/5 on Vita this year then it would count.
I fail to see why not.

Alex says right in the review "this is just Rayman: Origins again", and "very same visuals, and that very same campaign has been placed on a PlayStation Vita cart"
@Kidavenger: So what? Its still a separate review.....the OP did not set any specific rules saying that VITA re-releases don't count, he was just asking what the first five star review of 2012 would be....and lo and behold this was the first five star review of 2012, simple as that.
This. Pretty hilarious that no one guessed it.Oh you poor babies. You asked for the first 5 Star Review, you get it, and THEN you bring out the technicalities :P

Doesn't make the game any less of a 2012 release. So yeah. Rayman Origins wins.
Also didn't multiple people guess Rayman earlier in the topic?

Actually someone guessed it on page 2.

If we're talking about games that have already been released but are being ported to the Vita I would say Rayman Origins for the Vita will probably get a 5/5 (if it is reviewed that is). For a brand new game, probably Mass Effect 3.

but I wasn't expecting Syndicate to be the first 5-Star review (especially from Jeff)
Huh? Not only is Jeff the first-person player fanatic at Giant Bomb, but he's been praising the game on the bombcast ever since that first trailer hit the web last year. You should have seen this coming.
Anyways, I am totally buying this game, now that I know it's the real deal.
I'm pretty sure that slapping a 2011 game on a new platform and saying it's the first 5 star reviewed game of 2012 is kind of silly but whatever. The same game was technically released in 2011 when the Vita wasn't available. I'm sure that if the Vita was available they would have released it alongside the other versions.
I'm still saying Syndicate takes the first, originally released in 2012 5-star review.
@Anwar: @dekkadekkadekka: I know, but some people were all like, "It doesn't count because it's a port blah blah blah," so in a way, this is the "official" one.
@AuthenticM: True, but I didn't expect the game to get a perfect score. As cool as the premise is, there could've been things in the game that ruined parts of the experience. You should be familiar with how those sort of things work out.
@Veiasma: @XxBarretxX: Syndicate does not have a dubstep soundtrack. While that one Skrillex remix does come up in the game, it's mostly traditional moody game music, which is fine. Just letting you guys know, in case you were kidding.
@Flappy: 5 stars is NOT a perfect score on Giant Bomb. It's simply the highest recommendation they can give. Perfect does not exist in the world of intelligent games criticism. :)

Nope, Rayman Origins was the first.

Sorry guys, Syndicate doesn't count because it's based on a game series that came out in 1993. Not only that, Rhythm Heaven originally came out in Japan in 2011. Looks like we're still waiting on that first five star review!
Rayman Origins on Vita was the first five star.
And how would Syndicate not count? It's a reboot of an old series and the game just came out. If we're only counting original games, i.e. the first of a series, then... uh... I don't think much of anything is coming out.
