Do you think that there will ever be an HD remake or downloadable remake of Unreal Tournament 1999? I personally know that I would enjoy this so much, as Unreal Tournament 1999 made my childhood. Thoughts?
HD remake of Unreal Tournament 1999
Give me Unreal Tournament 2004 HD, and I will give you everything of value that I own, and some that I don't.
I would rather see Epic do something like Quake Live with Unreal Tournament. That would be amazing. I doubt anything like that will happen thought since Epic realized they aren't making money with the franchise anymore which is a shame, Unreal Tournament 3 wasn't that bad, I actually liked it quite a bit. My favorite is still Unreal Tournament 2004 and played the ever loving crap out of it in high school and I still play it once in a while.
EDIT : Might want to add a question mark to end of the thread title, it's very misleading and disappointing, I thought an actual HD remake was announced or something.

Considering what they do with these games for HD releases is just up rez them, it being a PC game it should not be hard. Hell just download it now and max out the resolution. But it would be amazing to have a version of 1999 on XBL or PSN to play. I loved UT3, because I skipped 2004, didn't appeal to me at the time for some reason but you could still play the classic modes and maps of UT 99 on it with great graphics. WHat else would you want?
@Ketchupp: Since at least 2003.
Personally, give me Unreal Championship 2 HD. One of the best, most original competitive multiplayer games I've ever played. Best Unreal game by a mile.
Actually just give me Unreal Championship 3.
I am pretty sure, were the community so inclined, it would be relatively easy to do an HD UT99 or 2k4 just by remaking all the maps/modes/etc and tweaking the shit out of UT3 to make it more like it predecessors.
Note: -relatively- easy. It would still be a lot of work, but it's not like a whole new engine or even a whole new game would need to be made.
Can they be called "HD Remakes" When it's a PC game that was in HD when it was released?
I still don't understand what's wrong with UT3, was it just a lack of innovation or did it actually do things wrong?
@zudthespud: It attempted to appeal to too many different crowds (PC and console, UT2004 and UT99 communities) at the same time, resulting in nobody liking it. The movement style was too different from UT2004 and not similar enough to UT99. Most weapons had been changed in decent ways, except for the flak cannon's secondary fire, which was made useless due to the awkward arc. Perhaps the biggest problem was the boring map design and distracting graphics aesthetics. Even with everything turned off the game was hard to look at.
Throw in the laughable GameSpy horseshit on the PC side and the game was made to fail. Epic made, in my opinion, the best server browser ever on the PC in UT2004 and then went with a third-party for UT3. Doesn't hurt to mention that absolutely nothing was changed from the "Beta Demo," which is usually released so that Epic can make changes that the community suggests. The game was released in a sad state and then CliffyB blamed everything on piracy.
Epic was once my favorite company. Not so much these days.
/source - 4,000 hours in UT2004.
I think UT 99 was my very first multiplayer experience.. Good times!
Too outdated for a remake though. UT 04 maybe.
