Halo had the better had the better impact on the industry overall and I've had some amazing times playing with friends in Halo 3, although Reach was unable to re-capture that magic.
Although I've spent an insane amount of time in CoD4 multiplayer, the series grew more and more stagnant as it went on. Halo, on the other hand, has remained nostalgic for me.
I only play the single-player elements of these games and Halo's campaign has traditionally been far better than Call of Duty's. I am interested in playing around in the Halo universe, while I have zero interest in the Michael Bay inspired Modern Warfare (and now Black Ops) settings.
I honestly hate how COD feels. The way it moves and controls just seem unnatural to me. Now, I hardly play online FPSs that much, but if I had to pick one I would go for Halo.
Halo, just based on gameplay. I've never beaten a CoD campaign more than once. Spectacle's nice, but the fact that Halo firefight always play out differently just makes it more interesting minute to minute.
@Mr_Skeleton: "Which of these two options do you prefer?" does not imply that their are no other options. He set up a binary condition, which, does happen in the real world.
