Reef Social Area
So House of Wolves is coming out May 19th and for those of us who have been playing it since release, it's a pretty big deal since many of the core mechanics are getting changed for the better. Here's a quick recap of everything that Bungie's has revealed via its Twitch streams so far. This thread will be updated as we find out more about the Prison of Elders and the Trials of Osiris.
- As everyone has heard by now, there will be no raid. Instead there will be a three man end game activity called the Prison of Elders. More information on this will be added after the Twitch reveal.
- The Reef is the new social space and will have its own vendors related to the Queens Bounties, The Prison of Elders and the Trials of Osiris. You will also be able to access your vault and regular bounties from the Reef.
- The economy of the game is being simplified. Things like Vanguard and Crucible commendations are going away and you will no longer need them to buy vendor gear. All you will need is the Vanguard or Crucible Marks. Any Commendations that you currently have can be cashed in for 250 experience points into its respective category.
- In order to help simplify the economy, materials can now be changed into other materials. Do you have 1000 Ascendant Shards with nothing to use them on? No problem, you can change them into Motes of Light or Glimmer. The materials that are going to remain in the game are now going to be interchangeable, so less time will be spent trying to grind out one specific type.
- Every legendary weapon and exotic weapon in the game will be able to be upgraded to the new maximum damage of 365. Even original vanilla Destiny weapons that seemingly became obsolete after The Dark Below was released can "ascend."
- Similarly, any legendary and exotic armor in the game can also be used to reach level 34. Meaning that being the maximum level won't require everyone to look the same. You can wear any piece of armor in the game and still achieve maximum light level.
- Upgrading weapons and armor will require an item called Etheric Light which drops from Nightfall missions, daily missions as well as from the Trials of Osiris and the Prison of Elders. What this means is that you DO NOT need the DLC in order to reach the new level cap, however, progression will be a lot slower, since you cannot do the new House of Wolves activities.
- Upgrading weapons and armor will also become simplified. Any new weapon you get will start at 331 attack, and the upgrade damage or defense nodes have been removed entirely. Meaning all you need to unlock at that point is the perks. Once all perks have been unlocked, you can ascend the gear to the current maximum (as stated above) using Etheric Light.
- Any new vendor weapon can have its perk re-rolled now. Did you ever end up doing the Nightfall, only to get some shitty weapon with terrible perks? No problem, now you can take that gun to the Gunsmith and he will reforge the weapon into a something with different perks, meaning you can change it until you get your ideal combination
- The Gunsmith will also be selling telemetries now as well as Xur, meaning you can level your gear faster then ever.
Trials of Osiris
- The Trials of Osiris is a competitive PVP mode added to the Crucible.
- It starts every Friday and lasts until the weekly reset on Tuesday.
- If you want to enter the trials you need to purchase a Passage Ticket from Brother Vance in the Reef social area.
- You can only enter the trials with a team of three pre-chosen members. There is no match making due to the fact that this is a more competitive game mode which needs more communication, and some random person joining your team and then leaving could make it so that that you very quickly get losses.
- The trials end if you successfully win 9 games and fill up your passage ticket, in which case you can hand the ticket in to Brother Vance and get end game rewards and gear. Each game has five rounds.
- There are three tiers of rewards you can get from Vance upon handing in a passage ticket with wins stamped on it. Three wins is a Stone Tier reward, six wins is a Silver Tier reward and nine is a Gold Tier reward.
- If you lose three times you are immediately eliminated from the tournament and must hand your ticket in back to Vance. You can however rebuy another ticket for 100 Glimmer and enter the tournament again.
Prison of Elders
- The Prison of Elders is a horde mode style arena that can be played with three fireteam members.
- There is four different levels of difficulty; 28, 32, 34 and 35.
- There is matchmaking for the level 28 difficulty of the game, but the other higher levels require that you bring in your own fireteam.
- The mode consists of five randomized rooms filled with a specific type of enemy, such as the Hive, the Fallen, the Cabal etc...
- The first four rooms consist of standard enemies, but the fifth room is a boss room.
- Every room also has a random modifier applied to it such as Heroic, Arc Burn, Juggler and so on, similar to how the Nightfall strikes work.
- If you successfully beat the mode, you might be awarded a key which can be used to open an exotic chest in the Queens Crystal Barrows to get all kinds of loot, including exotics.
- Prison of Elders keys can be attained through other means as well such as looting chests on various planets that have wanted House of Wolves Fallen Bounties, and as long as you have a key, you can play the mode as many times as you want to continuously loot the exotic chest.
