How did Bad Company get 5 stars...

When Red Faction: Guerilla got 4?
 
In Jeff"s review of Bad Company, he praises both the single player and multiplayer, the characters, the guns etc. but what he seemed to like most was blowing shit up. Well, if the first two hours of both games are anything to go by, I can safely say Red Faction does explosions better than not only Bad Comany, but just about any game.
 
So far in Bad Company the gameplay has consisted mostly of:

1. Drive here
2. Blow up this (usually an AA gun)
   
3. Repeat

Because Jeff liked it better?

Bad company's humour does quite a bit to enhance the single player, whereas Red Faction was more po-faced. 
Also the multiplayer in BF walked all over Guerilla's.

I quickly grew tired of this and popped in Red Faction and whoa, that was the most fun I've had all year. Sure, blowing a hole in a wall is cool. But reducing a 50ft tower to rubble with a fucking hammer is just awesome.  Like I said, I'm only two hours into both and I haven't touched multilplayer, but already I'm loving Red Faction and I can't see myself going back to Bad Company. Does it get better? Does Red Faction get worse? Or should I play the other purchase I made, The Darkness instead? "

Like you said, you haven't played multiplayer. Jeff must have really liked Bad Company's multiplayer.

Different strokes for different folks.

With my experience with Red Faction, the game got really frustrating to the point where I had to lower the difficulty.

Bad Company is probably my favorite current generation game. It has an appeal, for sure.

Because Jeff isn't a soothsayer and cannot predict that a game with better explosions will come out roughly a year later.

Sooner or later this thread is going to degrade into 8.8/8.9 territory again. I can just feel it.
 
Last time I checked, Jeff didn't say we had to agree with his opinion in order to enjoy a game. Hell, the other staff just discussed in this week's podcast how they can't all come to a common agreement on a game. If you like it, you like it, then more power to you, but there's a reason reviews are, by definition, subjective. I should know; I've had the Internet go to town on some of my own reviews it's found contentious.
 
Also, fun fact: As others have pointed out, Red Faction did come out later and really, the two games operate pretty differently on a mechanical level. Different times and different types of gameplay affect the expectations accordingly.

Keep in mind that Bad Company came out a year before Guerrilla.  But Bad Company was a game that I didn't particularly enjoy, single- or multiplayer wise.  And non-stacking difficultly achievements are fucking stupid.

If you're going to ask why a game got 5 stars, why no mention of Mortal Kombat vs DC?

Because BC is a game with more substance. RF:G is a rushed attempt to create a game based on blowing things up into bits. It has good ideas in it just that it isn't executed well. Its all about delivering on what you promise.

BF:BC is an amazing game...thats why

Because a review is nothing more than an opinion. Therefore, it cannot be wrong. It is stupid and pointless to compare the ratings games receive.
