" @Turbo_Toaster: The site would be at a loss without you too Kat :) "Wow that was really sweet, thank you. =3
How did you find GiantBomb.com?
Videogames.com to Jeff's blog to GB.This is where I started. My friend had dial-up in 1998 and the first thing I would do is look up video game websites when I would go to his house. I lurked around Gamespot and Gamefaqs when I got dial-up in 2000 and then joined Gamespot in 2005 when I got broadband. Saw the whole Jeff thing go down, followed his blog and eventually the Giant Bomb blog and signed up day one.
I followed Jeff off of GameSpot, to his blog, to the Arrow Pointing Down Podcast, to the site. It's a little hard to believe the sites been going for so long and I've been here since day 1...and have such a low post count.Me too- except for the low post count thing.
I came across a link to the livestream of the Kinect launch titles and spent the next six months going through the back catalog.
@Claude: :PIf I would have been active, I probably would have been banned. I did act good on Gamefaqs, mostly trying to help people with games, especially Tiger Woods games.I only made that account to download demos and patches and stuff before Steam was Steam. I don't think I have more then 10 forum post. I just watched videos and listened to the Hotspot.
I've been taught how to act properly on the internet on Giant Bomb. I still fail from time to time. I'm still learning.
About a little over a year ago the only connection I had to the internet and all it had to offer was my Palm Pre. I roamed over the app catalog on there everyday looking for something tantalizing and interesting to bide my time. Saw the Giantbomb app and passed over it several times, b/c c'mon how good could it be? Then one day I gave it a whirl. It was pretty limiting but I had the chance to check out some Quick Looks and some video reviews. Over those few months I grew to really dig what they were offering in regards to features and their distinctive personalities. So much so that when I got back to e-civilization I have visited the site at least once a day since.
I was reading something about Rogue Warrior on Joystiq.com(I'm pretty sure it was the review) and there were some funny comments, one of which linked to the Quick Look of the game and I was hooked ever sense.
I had, at that point, only been a lurker. After watching roughly 20 other Quick Looks, I had been coming to the site more and more. Then, the next few days I decided to scope out the forums to see how it was one the "awesome to douchebag" ratio, and I liked the odds I was given. And, about five or six months ago, I decided to join.
And here I am. :)
For me, a friend from another site mentioned that GiantBomb was quite an active gaming community, with some of the speediest news updates on the net.
So I've spent a few months lurking, and finally made an account the other day. Very much worth it, I like this site quite a lot.
I subscribe to the ECA, and in one of their newsletters last year, they linked to the Gran Turismo 5 quick look. I thought it was hilarious, and actually a great way to show off a game. I never returned until the same newsletter linked to the Farming Simulator 2011 quick look, and again... i thought it was hilarious. Then I started checking out the rest of the quick looks.... and the rest, as they say, is history.
I was there at the start because I followed what Jeff was doing after the Gamespot, I knew of Jeff from Gamespot but I wasn't a fan or anything, I just found the whole thing interesting. I stopped using Gamespot soon after that but GB wasn't really putting out much content back then so I started using Joystiq as the main source of my gaming news. Then when mega 64 appeared on the bombcast, I found about it and listened, I have been hooked since then. Before GB I never even posted on a gaming forum.
I was a fan of the On the Spot podcast and the Hotspot video cast. Man, Jeff made my girlfriend and I laugh every time he'd sign off with "check us out online at GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMESPOT.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I found the Arrow Pointing Down podcast with Ryan and Jeff when that was launched and the rest is history...
I don't remember exactly how I found GiantBomb, originally I would come to the site every so often to check out Quick Looks. When the Deadly Premonition ER began, I started visiting the site daily. That's when I started listening to the podcast, and after the Deadly Premonition ER was over I went back and watched the Persona 4 ER. I only wish I had discovered the site sooner.
gerstpocalypse... I was there!
Sadly I do not have an awesome story, I came here after the gamespot bullshit and saw that Jeff was working on a new site. I guess the only funny part is I like Jeff on the podscasts but I think his opinion on shit is ridiculous and I want to scream at him sometimes when he says shit but overall I like his style. I am just saying we would clash IRL about stuff.
