Merchandising! Giantbomb the Tshirt! Giantbomb the Lunch Box! Giantbomb the Breakfast cereal! Giantbomb the Flamethrower!
well if there looking for money to keep teh site up and im more than happy to pay money if its extra features, exclusive stuff.
I am more than happy subscribing and paying for something that i really like to show them my support and tell them "yes i like this stuff, keep up the good work!"
"I'm pretty sure they just sell our email addresses to viagra resellers. That's the main way.
"
I imagine they're resting on their own savings until investors come along and click that glorious "advertise" button at the top, at which point they'll be set.
that wont be long, i imagine, given Giantbomb's already huge popularity for such a new site.
They will no doubt be advertising (see the 'Advertise' link on the front page for contacting their advertising guy).
Unfortunately, this is the most acceptable way to monetise a site (short of selling all our e-mail addresses) - but hopefully they'll know how to keep it unobtrusive.
There is only ONE, and I mean ONE website out there that makes almost 0% profit....
Youtube.com
Google spends $2.1m a day on server fees alone. The only reason they bought youtube was because it was competing against Google Video. Yet they're rich anyways, and they make profit from their search engine. So it doesn't matter to them.
But you need profit, and ad's is one of the only ways.
"There is only ONE, and I mean ONE website out there that makes almost 0% profit....Seriously? Youtube doesn't turn a profit?

Ah, come on, guys... Whiskey Media? You know how they make their fucking money: shinin'! They're runnin' the shine in them there hills!

One days worth of server fees for hosting all of the videos on youtube costs them $ 2 million. PER DAY.
"Jax said:I have to imagine they turn on a profit, simply because they were bought for some ungodly sum (two billion of either dollars of pounds, I don't remember). There are plenty of ads; perhaps those more-than-cover whatever fraction of the $2.1m is youtube."There is only ONE, and I mean ONE website out there that makes almost 0% profit....Seriously? EDIT: Just checked the wiki. Seems a cited source indicates a $1m per day bandwidth cost, and that it does not, in fact, make a profit.

While wikipedia isn't always reliable, according to the information there youtube is not profitable. Another fun fact: in 2007 youtube supposedly consumed as much bandwidth as the entire internet in 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youtube

They've actually just infected all of our minds in some way and we're all now hypnotised into sending moneyz to a secret PayPal account.
Or adverts.
"They have said previously that its going to be add based id imagine back ground images of a set game and banners at some point. On the other hand, I guess Giant Bomb's content doesn't lend itself well to some sort of subscription model.
But they could go the paid subscriber route also gotta make that $$$
"
I also want to know how this site is going to make money. The Bombers must be pretty in debt by now.
