Thanks to the new TF2 co-op update I seem to be spending most of my free time after work now sitting in queues waiting for games to load. So I was wondering what other folks do to pass the time when they are waiting for their drug of choice to open up to them. I tend to alt tab and keep a mindless video on youtube running or looking at the forums then alt tabbing back every few min to see if I got in yet.

Listen to music or watch vids on the internet for me.

Not play games with queues?

#4 Posted by Cloudenvy (5891 posts) -

I usually get impatient and boot up a different game.

#5 Posted by LethalKi11ler (1405 posts) -

I have my laptop to browse the internet while the loading happens on the main screen.

I go prepare something nice to eat for when I get in the damn game.

Nothing, because I don't queue up games. I don't multiplayer that much.

Its my understanding that the system for queing isnt working right, using server browser i have got into games in a matter of seconds but that is for the free mode.

to answer your question usually i just bring up the browser and reply to posts on giantbomb or check my emails, nothing too exciting

If I'm waiting for more than a minute then my attention span shits out on me and I switch to a different game - usually a single player one.

Especially if I don't have much time to game in the first place.

That's my strategy as well! *high fives*

Also, can't you just hop into servers in TF2 or has it changed that much since I last played it like a year ago?

#14 Posted by ReyGitano (2467 posts) -

The queue's I've waited in before have never been long enough to make me do something else while waiting. I just use the time to think to myself and reflect on whatever is going on at the time.

#15 Posted by adam1808 (1359 posts) -

I play games that don't have queues. Because singleplayer has no queues.

#16 Posted by yoshisaur (2612 posts) -

I guess I browse the web. It has to be something menial and easy to close so that you can immediately return to the game, or you're missing the point. Reading a couple of the comments here is starting to shed some light on why League of Legends queue's keep canceling..

You're totally right. After spending an entire night waiting through queues to try out MvM, using the server browser got me into a game in seconds.

Basically this. The only time queuing up for a game is okay is when there's some event going down that you have a limited time to enter, such as during TNT.

Ghost ride the whip.

If it is a shorter break, say less than 5 minutes, I will usually just browse the web for a second or two before, or a lot of time I will have my TV on watching television while my PC is on , and I will end up watching that.

If it is waiting for a patch to download and install. I will usually have my PSP right by me, and turn that on for a few minutes and work on whatever game I am currently playing.

The queues are specific to the new co-op mode only and, even then, you can just ping servers directly for that or still use the browser for everything else.

#22 Posted by Svenzon (711 posts) -

Usually I say 'fuck it', go do something else and come back later.

#23 Posted by Sayishere (1838 posts) -

None of my queues are ever that long.

#24 Posted by crusader8463 (14412 posts) -

@buft: Right now I'm just playing to get the item drops. I got the the one I really wanted, that new metal engie helmet, on my second ever game. So I can die happy now.

Only games I've played where I have had to deal with this constantly have been MMOs - EQ in particular. Usually I spent time intently staring at the queue number - but also, there was an IRC channel where people congregated to complain about servers being down. I spent a lot of time there, because shared misery is so much better.

Usually read a comic on my tablet. I would read a book, but it's not as easy to get back into reading a book as it is with comics for me.

#27 Posted by Jaeya (10 posts) -

I can't say that queueing for games is something I do often.

I usually end up playing with my phone, though. :3

I read a book on my iPad, browse forums, write, watch videos, or occasionally I'll even paint a model or something.

This is my general rule of thumb for all occasions... not just waiting for a queue.

Also Minecraft.

#30 Posted by kalmis (1558 posts) -

My gaming time is already very limited, no way I am going to use it on queuing.

The only game I play that sometimes requires waiting to get into a server is BF3.

Usually I just grab my DS and play for a minute or two. Doesn't take long to get into most any server.

If a game has a queue I'll just not play it until the queue is gone.

The only exception to that is LoL but even then I won't wait if it's a long queue.
