For those who had/have all 3 of course.

2009 was the year I had finally picked up my ps3 to complete the holy trinity. I imagine i'll do the same in a few years time.

This is the first year I've had all major consoles at launch. Last gen I got my Wii and 360 day one. PS3 was January or February after, because god damn that $600 price tag.

#3 Posted by mosespippy (3735 posts) -

I saw no need to buy a wii last gen and I didn't see a compelling reason to get a 360 either. I thought about it but couldn't justify it.

#4 Posted by Sumbog (477 posts) -

I bought a Xbox in 2007, and then a PS3 in 2010. I never bought a Wii but I had a PC so I count as my trinity.

I got a 360 about a year after launch, a PS3 shortly before Uncharted 2, and a Wii about 2 years ago. This generation, I got a Wii U less than a month ago. I'll get a PS4 once inFamous comes out, since I already know I'll need it for the next Uncharted. I'm waiting for something to convince to get an Xbox One, so it may be a year or two after its launch.

Bought a 360 and Wii on launch day. PS3 about a month after it came out.

Got my PS4 and will most likely get a Xbox One when Titanfall drops.

I got a Wii at launch, 360 as soon as I could find one on ebay and a PS3 the day the first slim came out.

Pre-ordered an Xbox one. Don't plan on ever getting a Wii U and will consider PS4 when something decent comes out.

Bought a 360 in 2008, and then when I was deployed to Iraq, I purchased a PS3, once I got back from Iraq I bought a Wii.

#9 Posted by AlexW00d (6059 posts) -

I bought a 360 mid way through 2010, used it about 3 times, and never used it again. I so I guess not long enough?

Got a 360 and a Wii in late 2007. Would have had all three in 2010, but I sold the Wii in August.

#13 Posted by Nightriff (4338 posts) -

Bought a 360 in November 2006, day after Gears of War launch and just before the Wii and PS3 launches. The following February I waited outside a Walmart for 6 hours to get a Wii and Twilight Princess. Then in June I picked up the PS3. So within....8 months I got all three systems

#14 Posted by ArtisanBreads (3595 posts) -

I bought a 360 day one. Bought a PS3 bundle the day MGS4 came out. I got a Wii.... I can't remember when? I think my parents got it for X-Mas but I hardly ever played it so I hardly count that.

360 in 2007 and wii/ps3 in 2008.

#17 Posted by Reisz (1358 posts) -

Two years? Like twenty eight months.

It will likely be the same this time around, will jump into the Wii U when Xeno[insert here] comes out in NA

I got my ps3 about 4-5 months after it came out (first console I bought for myself). I got a 360 in like August or September of that year. I wanted to play Lost Odyssey. I got my Wii as a birthday present to myself in 2011. I was able to wait on that one since my friends all had one, so I was able to borrow it for Fire Emblem.

During the beginning of the last console cycle I was a teenager though. This time I already have a Wii U, and I intend to pick up a PS4 in the next few months. Then an Xbox will probably be within the next two years.

PS3 - Dec 2007

360 - Aug 2008 (sister got it so I played on it and then bought my own with Halo: Reach). When I heard I went and bought ME that day. I played it for like 8 hours straight.

Wii - Didn't get it : Couldn't justify it with the lack of games that would I would really like and I always thought Wii HD was just around the corner.

Wii in 2007

PS3 in 2008, specifically for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. I first visited this site when looking at reviews for the game and this site was confirmation that it would be worth it. It totally was.

360 - Australian Launch in 2006

PS3 - July 2007

Wii - January 2008

This year. The PS3's price kept me away for awhile until my local gamestop had a games sale so I figured I'd grab a bundle and pick up some cheap used games.

A roommate of mine left and gave me his Wii, otherwise I still might not have one. Another gamestop used game sale, thanks to the WiiU, I was able to grab 6 games.

Hoping to expedite the process this time and never be left out in the cold when it comes to exclusives.

I got a 360 and a Wii on their respective launch days. I got a PS3 just a couple years ago(can't remember exactly when).

Edit: Thought about checking my rental history on Gamefly to see the first PS3 game I rented from them. Seems like I got the PS3 in late January of 2011.

#24 Posted by lun49gameon (89 posts) -

I got a red Mario 25th anniversary Wii in December 2010, and got a used xbox 360 the following december with a copy of LA Noire that I managed to play through half of it before the xbox red ringed again. Lasted 2 more weeks with the towel method. I bought a new xbox 360 e 2 months ago with a copy of gta 5 and I skipped the ps3 to have leftover cash for a ps4.

#25 Posted by Lydian_Sel (2452 posts) -

Bought my 360 in mid 2008 with BioShock and DMC4. Recieved a Wii as a gift at christmas of that same year. Bought a PS3 for christmas 2010 with a copy of AC2 and InFamous. I wish I had more excuses to use my PS3, but it still got way more use than my Wii.

PS3 2009 when slim came out for uncharted 2

Wii 2010 for Epic Mickey

360 2011 blockbuster closing sale, it was dirt cheap

I bought a Wii this year because I'm an idiot.

#28 Posted by csl316 (7345 posts) -

I'd say like a year after they were all out. Got a PS3 for $200, but it was the Wii that took me a while. I honestly don't remember what made me dive in. Probably the promise of Galaxy.

#29 Posted by Redbullet685 (5980 posts) -

Received the 360 for Christmas '06, and bought a PS3 in I wanna say February-March 2010. Never wanted a Wii so I never got one

#30 Edited by Video_Game_King (34594 posts) -

Still working on it.

#31 Edited by OmniscientCajun (96 posts) -

360 in January of '06 (after the first major restock). Wii at launch (camped out at Target). PS3 in April of 2010. So 3-and-a-half years after it was possible. If tomorrow is the first day possible for this next generation, I don't think it will take as long this time around. I have a PS4, really want a Wii U, and moderately want an Xbox One. I just like this stuff too damn much.

I bought a PS3 in late 08 or early 09. My brother gave me his launch 360 when he purchased one of the newer editions. Somehow it still works to this day. I still plan on getting a Wii one day. Maybe next year? For comparison I bought an original Xbox in 2003 or so and a PS2 in 2008. I am a pretty patient person and I realized a couple years ago that it was pointless to buy a game on a console if there was a PC version. Eventually I'd be able to get it for 90% off or something. I haven't purchased a 360 game since maybe Gears of War 3. And I ended up getting Sly 4 with my Gamefly rewards just so I wouldn't waste them. That was the first console game I have purchased since Journey last year. I haven't purchased a new disc based console game since that year with Uncharted 3 and Gears 3. So I decided this time around to just wait until there are enough exclusive games I just can't miss before buying a console. If I really want to play a multi-platform game I can play it on low settings on my PC.

I got my PS3 on launch day and my 360 about a year after. I still have the original models of both somehow and they still work. Never bought a Wii, though.

  • 2006, bought Wii
  • 2007, bought PS3
  • 2009, sold PS3 for $300
  • 2010, traded Wii and games for Xbox 360.
#40 Posted by YukoAsho (1948 posts) -

I got the 360 in early 2006 IIRC, got the Wii in February 2007 and the PS3 the following month.

By contrast, I got the Wii in April of this year, got PS4 on launch and will likely not be getting an Xbone until the S remodel, if ever.

Forever

Never had all three last gen, probably won't get any this gen. I'm converting to PC this gen.

#43 Posted by JJWeatherman (14483 posts) -

Until February of this year. And you know what? Could have lived without a PS3. And a Wii.

#44 Posted by HistoryInRust (6215 posts) -

I actually might buy a Wii in the next few weeks, just to catch up on some of the backlog I'd missed there. Galaxy, and the Metroid Prime stuff.

Dude, for that just get a Wii U. Full Wii compatibility and you get in on the sweet new Wii U games coming out.

I bought a PS3 in 2009 and a 360 about a year ago. Never had enough interest in the Wii.

Wii in summer of 2007, 360 for Christmas 2008, PS3 summer 2009.

And a Wii U for Christmas 2012..

#49 Edited by YI_Orange (1071 posts) -

My last was the PS3, in 2010 I think? Seems really late, but I caught up on everything I needed to.

#50 Posted by ervonymous (1226 posts) -

360 in late 2008, after they started putting HDMI-outs in the bloody things besides the Elite skew. Wii in 2010, I think, and PS3 late last year.

Also built my first gaming PC in '10.
