4. I'll even make my own little top 4 list while I'm at it:

  1. Journey
  2. Mass Effect 3
  3. Spec Ops
  4. Binary Domain

I'm currenlty playing XCOM but I won't get anywhere near finishing it. Even so, were I to rank it on that list based off of what I've played so far It's easily above all the games on that list other than Journey.

4 games not counting Xenoblade Chronicles because that's technically 2010.

Max Payne 3

Assassin's Creed 3

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning

Guild Wars 2 (I didn't actually finish it though considering it's an MMO)

I didn't have a lot of money this year so I'll have to catch up at some point.

last time I checked it was 17.

If I finish Dark Souls by tomorrow (and I've taken down Seath and the Four Kings so it's not unthinkable) it'll be 18.

These fifteen!

  1. Journey
  2. Kid Icarus: Uprising
  3. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations
  4. Malicious
  5. Diablo III
  6. Dragon's Dogma
  7. Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers
  8. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
  9. Dear Esther
  10. Borderlands 2
  11. Pokemon Black Version 2
  12. Thomas was Alone

  14. Hotline Miami
  15. Orcs Must Die 2

About half of the games I played I should mention, not counting some of the really old stuff I went back to over the year.

@Animasta: If you're counting the PC version of Dark souls then I guess I should add that too my list as well.

@RecSpec: And I guess Frog Fractions counts as a game so that too, as well as that former basketball player adware game, whatever it was called.

21 and they are:

  • Assassin's Creed 3
  • Asura's Wrath
  • The Darkness II
  • Dear Esther
  • Dishonored
  • Gravity Rush
  • Jak & Daxter Collection
  • Journey
  • Little Inferno
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Max Payne 3
  • Papo & Yo
  • Playstation All Stars Battle Royale
  • Prototype 2
  • Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
  • Retro City Rampage
  • Spec Ops: The Line
  • Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
  • Thirty Flights of Loving
  • The Unfinished Swan
  • The Walking Dead

Does the Jak Collection count? Because they're old games but HD re-releases. If they do count, do I count them as 3 games? Since there are 3 games. Also, Gotham City Impostors probably wouldn't count either since you can't beat it but eh. Whatever.

I'm not very good at finishing games. I beat 10 games this year. I'm partway through Halo 4, Starhawk, and Hotline Miami. Big games I haven't yet played include - Mark of the Ninja, Dishonored, AC3, BO2, Far Cry 3, X-Com, FTL, and Dust. I plan to knock out Black Ops 2 and Dishonored once I'm done with Halo 4. I don't have the money for AC, Far Cry, or X-Com. So I'm going to try and play Dust, FTL and Mark of the Ninja when I get a chance. Outside of Dust and Dishonored I'm pretty sure none of the remaining games would crack my Top 5. Right now those are:

  1. Journey
  2. Spec Ops
  3. Mass Effect 3
  4. The Walking Dead
  5. Binary Domain

Looking at that list I am surprised how the only one of those games I can say I truly loved the gameplay of was Journey. The other four I put on here mostly for story reasons. I honestly haven't loved the gameplay of a single game I've played this year other than Journey. In fact none of those lower 4 games would probably have been in my Top 10 in any previous year. For me this was just a bad year for gaming. Hotline Miami will probably rise above Binary Domain and Dishonored or Dust might find their way on there as well but this has been just a pretty crappy year for me. We'll see how next year goes.

If you count each game in the HD Collections then 28.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Now this is probbaly the coolest HD Collection you can get, love me some Metal Gear Solid! 5/5

The Darkness II

I was surprised this was happening, I mean I personally enjoyed the first Darkness but I assumed nobody else did due to the lack of a sequel. But here we are 2012 and we have a Darkness game, I am happy to say I had a great time with it. It was kinda short and at times very hard, but it had a nice style and I enjoyed the gameplay and Mike Patton was back in action! 4/5

Journey

flOw was one of the first PSN games I got, I was one of the people that liked flOw. Then Flower came out and I really liked that too and knew I had found a company I could follow. Journey came out and man it blew me away, I was speechless during the end scene and I really felt then it was one of the best games I had ever played. 5/5

Mass Effect 3

I had the ending spoiled to me from my sister who beat it before me, but despite that I still was happy playing through the game and was happy with the ending. The game itself was also a blast and at times it gets very emotional. 5/5

Twisted Metal

I never played the original games but was glad I took the risk as I enjoyed myself with both the single player and multiplayer. 4/5

Max Payne 3

Some people seem to not like this game, but screw them I really had a good time with this game. I hadn't even played any of the original games and I still loved this game. 5/5

Asura's Wrath

You should play this game! 5/5

Syndicate

Had a good time with it, liked the chip mechanics and the sound was great as were the visuals. Story didn't really grab me and I had no idea what was going on up until I met that girl at the end of the game. 4/5

Sorcery

A game that I really enjoyed and a game that I doubt anybody else will ever play, such a shame. 4/5

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

I have done everything in this game, all trophies, so there I justify putting this on the list. I was very surprised at just how much I enjoyed this game, I'm also surprised at how much I like this to Mortal Kombat, it's just so much quicker its crazy. Oh and did I mention it's free? 5/5

Lollipop Chainsaw

Cool art style, great soundtrack and has some outright insane parts, to bad none of it was fun to play. 2/5

The Amazing Spider-Man

Spider-Man 2 was my favourite Spider-Man games, it was the essence of what made Spider-Man Spider-Man. The Amazing Spider-Man captured the web swinging. But really the combat wasn't all that and the story was kind of generic, also it feels like they got fake villains instead of the real deal. But man that web swinging! 3/5

Ratchet & Clank Collection

Three fantastic games, this would have easily been a 5, but the guys who did the port did a pretty bad job. Throughout all three games I came across multiple audio sync issues and weird graphical bugs. 3/5

Rock Band Blitz

I beat all 25 songs included, one of the coolest rhythm games I have played, it's low low price also made it easier to enjoy the game. Instruments are so last year. 5/5

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Another one of these, when you stand back and compare it to other 2D platformers it is a well made platformer. But it's just kind of boring, they already did three of these before and another one coming out for the Wii U. The coin hook was cool at first, but around halfway through the game I realised I was never going to get to 1 million, so I ended up speed running through the rest of it. 3/5

Sleeping Dogs

Sleeping Dogs was not on my radar until it came out, I bought it and was totally blown away. I was sad to hear it did not sell well because so far its one of the best games I have played this year. It's combat is fantastic and makes a nice change to be focussed around hand to hand instead of guns. The only issue I had was that the story was at at times confusing, other than that I really enjoyed it. 5/5

Borderlands 2

I was weak, I jumped straight into Borderlands 2. Its very similar to the first, but better in almost every way. 5/5

The Walking Dead

For Clementine. 5/5

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

It has a lot of flair and it's intro video is just outstanding, but the game itself isn't all that interesting to play as its main mechanic is not that fun. This game would be better if they would have just done the same as Super Smash Bros. 3/5

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

A return to form for the franchise, I was worried it would be another dull affair like lasts years Modern Warfare 3. But happily it gets back on track and is one of the more enjoyable First Person Shooters I have played this year. 4/5

Little Inferno

This game goes to Journey styles of originality and background plot, a fantastic adventure that is a fun ride the whole way through. Similar to Journey it also had a "OH SHIT" ending, if you have a Wii U this is the best experience you will find. 5/5

Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 came out of the blue, I had no interest in this game what so ever. Then I watched the quick look and thought that looked kinda fun, so I picked it up and well. It turned out to be a 20 hours long fantastic game, the soundtrack was one of the high points with the hunting following shortly behind. Everybody else seems to have problems with the story, I think it tells the story of a man who wants to save his friends and will do whatever it takes to save them, but when its all said and done he is NOT a monster. 5/5

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault

I am a huge fan of the RAC series, I played the first three earlier this year via a broken HD collection. I didn't enjoy last years All 4 One, so I was wary about this years release. I'm happy to say its a fun although rather short game. It has a nice difficulty and a REALLY adductive and fun multiplayer mode. But as I mentioned there are only 4 (5 if you count the tutorial) levels and it can be finished it about 3-4 hours if that. It looks nice though and the main villain reveal is pretty great. I just hope that next year they take a break and work on a classic Ratchet and Clank game for the following year. 4/5

Binary Domain

Binary Domain looked like it was going to be a generic first person shooter with a silly story, I can assure you that after I just played through the game in two long sittings it is way more than that. The story and character's are what really bring it to the table, Japan always seem to be good at capturing the relationships between you and your squad mates. I cared for each and every member of my team, my heart skipped a beat many a time in this game. The shooting wasn't that bad either, it was a nice simple game that had some cool boss battles and a fantastic ending. A few annoyances was that shooting teamate's was easy and the environments weren't always that interesting. 4/5
