These days, I'm fascinated by how the internet is changing entertainment.
I haven't been a cable subscriber for 6 years, and I'm consuming more and more entertainment on youtube.
Let's Play's have turned from a hobby into a fly by night career for game "casters/streamers/personalities" like Pewdiepie, Tobuscus, and the Game Grumps.
To my understanding, Youtube partners get about three dollars for every 1000 views. For an average Game Grumps video that garners 120,000 views, that's 360 bucks a video. On an average of 1 video per day 7 days a week, that makes 2520 per week, or 131,040 bucks a year. Since Game Grumps is a 3 man operation, each guy would take away about 43,680 dollars per year, before taxes. If you throw in things like T shirt sales for "star powered" personalities, you've got yourself a full on career in games casting.
To me, that doesn't sound like such a bad deal.
Does anyone want to team up and make a duo or trio (duo on screen + editor), and quit our day jobs?
