Now use my two HDMI ports for the PS3 and 360 and watch netflix (and soon hulu).
I just canceled my cable and landline
I canceled my cable a bit ago and wish I did it sooner, sure there's a few programs I miss and watching some sports but the money I'm saving is definitely worth it.
I've reverted to OTA TV and Hulu myself. The few channels I did watch on Cable were always in the upper price tiers, and I'm just talking about stuff like Science Channel and History International and such. Two or three channels isn't worth $80+ regulatory fees per month.
Besides, OTA (antenna) HD looks a lot better than that grainy compressed shit on Cable or Satellite. And with the switch to digital broadcasting a while back, most stations have substations so I don't have just 5 OTA channels like we used to here, we have like, 14.
I could also live without either, if it came down to it. I do watch sports so that is the reason I still have cable, but there is only one sport I watch and it's only on 5 months out of the years. The other 7 months, I literally only turn on the digital cable box (if that) once a week to watch the one show on TV that I like.
I also have a landline that I absolutely never use, and often wonder why I still pay for it.
" @FreakAche said:I can attest to this. This is why I only get limited basic, which only includes local channels and couple other things.... only 13 bucks a month. I feel like I definitely watch 13 bucks worth each month, so its all good.I wish I lived in America, where this is a viable option.I live in America and Comcast will actually charge me MORE if I cancel my basic cable TV... "
the least expensive cable service that i can get from comcast is $150 per month including landline and internet. compared to $59 for internet + $9 for netflix + $9 for hulu + $5 for xbox live = $82 per month. comes to $68 per month in savings (a conservative estimate since i'd pay for xbox live even with cable service). can spend it on more games and blu-ray purchases andor smoking weed and fucking hookers.
i prefer reading the news to watching it on tv for the same reason i prefer netflix and hulu to cable tv and movie channels. i get to choose what i want to read and watch rather then having some potentially crappy content delivered to me.
I cancelled a long time ago, and between Netflix, downloading, and Hulu I miss nothing that I used to watch.
@laserfrog:
I could never cancel my cable. There's too much programming I like that I would never seek out. Stumbling on a cool documentary, being able to channel surf odd programs in the middle of the night, getting sucked into home decorating shows all make cable worthwhile.

"To counter that point, I have grown to love the show Pawn Stars.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing, I really think that it is bad.
" @RecSpec: I love Pawn Stars too, coincidentally. It's that type of experience that makes cable fun. "Pawn Stars is on Netflix.
@detectivepbert:
I'm sure it is. But, personally, I never "experiment" when looking at online services. I know what I'm looking for and I go to it, and if there aren't new episodes I watch reruns. But with live television, I'm (for better or worse) forced to find something. So for me and my viewing habits, it just works out better. If it weren't for Sunday mornings, I never would have realized I loved home repair shows lol
The point is, for me, that no online service gives the total cable experience. It's a shame that prices are so high, because it would be ideal to have all (cable, Netflix, Hulu).

I've never had cable television. Once, while on vacation, I watched a 2 day marathon of "The Real World" and barely left the hotel. Too much of a good (or bad) thing. I have a giant picture tube television from the pawn shop... but it stays off unless I play a rare DVD.
I watch movies and catch some shows on the web.
Yup this seems to be the way to go. We canceled our cable awhile ago and never had a land line.
The funny thing is after not watching tv for a long time, watching it again at a friend's house or something like that, I am reminded of how shitty most tv is nowadays.
