Title pretty much says it all, I need a new MMO to play, and the only thing I really care about, is that it is free to play, and that it doesn't feel tooo Eastern.

Games I have already played/tried

  • Defiance
  • Rift
  • Path Of Exile
  • Spiral Knights
  • Lord of the Rings Online
  • Star Conflict
  • Warframe
  • Vindictus
  • DC Universe
  • Tera
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic

Champions Online is pretty fun. At least that's how I remember it.

Marvel Heroes? Check the MH forum here for a bunch of people currently talking about/playing it. I wasn't going to suggest it but you listed Path of Exile, and MH is more of an MMO than that game is.

Aion is pretty solid these days. They let you jump back and forth between normal and double exp servers at your leisure so you can play without any grinding.

I've only played a bit of it, but Neverwinter seems like it could be decent.

@mb: Yeah, I think i'm leaning towards Marvel Heroes. It seems to be the most active one mentioned in the Giantbomb community.

They updated Runescape to Runescape 3 at some point in the last 18 months I want to say. I didn't play much more than a half hour though because all the voice over was buggin and playing twice and I didn't like being forced into a tutorial when I was using my level 80 character from Runescape 2.

@virtualpolecat: RIFT is fantastic, and has a very dedicated fan base. Get a guild and you're golden. I don't recommend TERA if you don't want a game that feels too eastern, because boy that games does that.

I'll second Champion's Online. It was a great step up from City of Heroes in character creation. I had one character that was a space suit lady, and gave her an alternate costume that transformed her proportions and animations to make her a little monkey.

...if that's your sort of thing.

It doesn't have the DC Characters of DCU, but I feel you have much more ownership of your character with the customization.

I've heard good things about ArcheAge, even though it's still in beta. Definitely worth checking out from what I've seen.

Depending on your meaning of the term free-to-play, I can really only give advice to go for Guild Wars 2. Base cost of the game but no subscription.

Can't help much if you mean completely free.

@virtualpolecat: TERA is completely free and pretty fun. Just make sure to make a female character and observe how skimpy the outfits get.

I really liked Neverwinter. But I mostly played solo and it seemed pretty much adapted for people like me. Smaller and tighter areas, and extremely easy to que up for a group when you needed. I even liked the story.

This! Its pretty good and mega accessible, you could also try Neverwinter and Star Trek Online, all very different games to what you have played before and all free to play.

MMO? Has to be free 100%?

Uh you are gating yourself from the best MMO's but okay

I advise Champion's Online (like many others said) it is a very cool game with a neat approach, plays awesome on a controller with the right set up, and has insane levels of character customization. The Secret World (if it is free to download now anyway) is also a great pic. It has insanely refreshing questing that actually requires thinking, a neat storyline, great atmosphere, nice customization options, and like Champions is a classless system that lets you really experiment with a character. Guild Wars 2 is okay for a couple months I guess but I burned out on it fast, despite hype it offers nothing you haven't seen and done before in the mmo's you have already listed as played.

I'll second Star Trek Online and Marvel Heroes, but would probably also add EverQuest II and Planetside 2.

World of Tanks? I mean, it still fits in the genre of MMO and free-to-play, right?

The game can get complex as you get to the higher tiers but it's a blast and mindless fun on the lower tiers. It's eventually a grind-fest though with diminishing returns, again in the higher tiers, but that's what you can expect from an MMO.

Man you've really run through the big ones haven't you? Maybe it's time for another genre?

Hearthstone maybe?

Or an action game like Planetside 2, Hawken, Mech Warrior Online, World of Tanks?
