Not to be cold, but I have been thinking about this ever since I heard the news. With Ryan gone, Dave leaving and Tricky in Chi-town...does Giant Bomb continue to exist? Can Giant Bomb continue to exist without one of the core members?

I won't make this an answerable question because well...it can't really be answered by anyone bar the main crew. But I want to know what the community thinks.

I wouldnt imagine so. With Dave gone, Patrick/Alex living elsewhere in the country, Vinny being a dad, and Ryans tragic passing, I can't see how things will carry on. Very sad

#3 Posted by dungbootle (2457 posts) -

The show must go on.

#4 Edited by Residentrevil2 (437 posts) -

I hope so... I really do. I need these guys still.

#5 Edited by SomeDeliCook (2233 posts) -

I think it'll slowly burn out. I see this affecting Jeff the most

#6 Posted by Cheesebob (1233 posts) -

@residentrevil2: @dungbootle: Believe me, I really, really want the website to continue. But I always felt that Ryan was the anchor for the insane shit that went on at Giant Bomb. Probably on account of him always hosting. It feels like the destiny of Giant Bomb is more unclear than it has ever been, even during the CBSi takeover.

#7 Edited by BraveToaster (12590 posts) -

If it does end, I will have no other place to go. I've tried other gaming sites, but nothing compares to Giant Bomb.

#8 Edited by cutyoface (541 posts) -

The end definitely seems to beginning. It hurts but it seems true.

#9 Posted by DeeGee (2116 posts) -

It's over. I think they'll try, but realise it's just not the same and call it quits.

#10 Posted by C0V3RT (1362 posts) -

I'd like to think they'll push on. While Ryan can never be replaced, I feel as if GiantBomb has grown enough that they could hire someone to do quick looks and sit in on podcasts. While it's doubtful that they'd have the same rapport the current staff has which is part of what makes content so awesome, I can't imagine they'd have to look far to find someone to do the work.

Maybe that's part of Ryan's legacy is that he's helped build something great in GiantBomb that even though he's gone, people care enough about the site that it can carry on.

#11 Posted by Wuddel (2079 posts) -

It's a troubling and comforting fact of life, that no human being is irreplaceable.

#12 Posted by TyCobb (1951 posts) -

This is the only game site I have ever enjoyed other than GameSpot (when everyone was still there). If this site goes, I will be lost.

#13 Posted by EuanDewar (4796 posts) -

Honestly I'd be equally as surprised either way

#14 Posted by EpicSteve (6479 posts) -

I can't imagine Ryan would want the staff to back down at this point.

#15 Posted by TorMasturba (1095 posts) -

Seriously?
Hell yeah it continues! I FUCKING LOVE GIANT BOMB and so did Ryan, he would hate for it to close down! No offence but what a silly question.

#16 Posted by Cheesebob (1233 posts) -

@wuddel: @c0v3rt: I guess it all falls to Jeff to host and stuff. On the - very minor - plus side, we may see more Drew and Matt Rorie in videos and podcasts.

#17 Posted by Quid_Pro_Bono (239 posts) -

Obviously no one can really know what the guys decide to do, but I personally feel that Ryan's slavish dedication to the site, creating content, and the Bombcast almost means that the best way to honor him would be to continue making the site bigger and bigger. It's clear that it was just as much his baby as Jeff's, and I hope the guys can manage to continue without him because it really is a great thing they've all created.

#18 Edited by Video_Game_King (36121 posts) -

Hopefully, it does.

#19 Posted by personandstuff (77 posts) -

Yes. It will continue. With both Ryan and Patrick gone, they will need to hire someone else. Which means Giant Bomb will change, maybe for the worse or maybe not for the worse.

#20 Posted by John1912 (1833 posts) -

This is kinda soon, and kinda tacky to be asking these questions.

#21 Posted by Puzzler20 (78 posts) -

If they want to honour Ryan's Legacy then HELL YES.

#22 Posted by WalkerTR77 (1352 posts) -

Sorry but I don't think this is an appropriate topic for right now. Questions of 'will the site continue' or 'should there be content' et al should be shelved for the time being. I totally understand the need for people to bring up questions like these but this is the time to remember Ryan.

#23 Posted by TurboMan (7428 posts) -

of course it will.

#24 Edited by Lexus2jz (92 posts) -

The show must go on as they say. Brad already tweeted that they are back in the office and would just go crazy being at home, so I don't see these guys stopping. Also I really don't think Ryan would wan't them to stop because of his passing. Ryan and the guys have turned this site into one of the best if not the best gaming sites on the internet. Ryan would probably want then to continue on making the great content they always have.

#25 Posted by kylenalepa (109 posts) -

I honestly don't know. I think Ryan would have absolutely wanted Giant Bomb to go on and thrive, but something like this is hard to come back from, I'd imagine.

#26 Edited by Darson (448 posts) -

Ryan would want the site to continue as it always has been. I bet he thinks we're acting like a bunch of pussies right now.

#27 Posted by eloj (488 posts) -

THIS TRAIN STOPS FOR NOTHING. CHOO-CHOO!

#28 Posted by Anjon (112 posts) -

I'm surprised by how pessimistic everyone is in light of everything Giant Bomb has been through to get to where it is today. People don't just give up whatever life they were living when stricken with grief. It's hard to move forward, but time (more often than not) heals these wounds. For some of us, this site was just a great site about video games, but I'm fairly sure it was a lot more to the duders manning the helm. I don't think they're in a situation where they can or will just stop being Giant Bomb.

#29 Posted by Milkman (16543 posts) -

You think they'll go down that easy?

Online
#30 Posted by wrecks (2217 posts) -

Yes. Life is change and these are a talented group of guys. Will it be the same? No. But I'm down for whatever they choose to do.

#31 Posted by ZeForgotten (10397 posts) -

If it goes down, then it goes down. I would love if it keeps going but understand if it doesn't.
I would imagine Ryan cursing up a storm if it happens though and he would haunt every single person on the plant and then just end the fucking planet while saying "You fucking losers, you guys suck so hard"

#33 Posted by Cheesebob (1233 posts) -

All these replies have convinced me that it would be a severe injustice to the legend that is Ryan Davis to dissolve the site. I hope that it continues indefinitely.

#34 Posted by Aetheldod (3517 posts) -

I can't imagine Ryan would want the staff to back down at this point.

Exaclty ... stoping now would be a diservice to the memory of the man

#35 Posted by LiquidPrince (15857 posts) -

Agreed. That said:

#36 Posted by falserelic (5334 posts) -

Its understandable if they decide to close down the site, but like everyone else says Ryan wouldn't want that to happen...

#37 Posted by KentonClay (243 posts) -

The Bomb will go on.

#38 Posted by mrfluke (5103 posts) -

i dont think ryan would have liked it if the site went down.

i wouldnt be surprised if the staff needed a break to recoup, the freedom stream last week showed that they can still nail content on a slim team.

#39 Posted by Wuddel (2079 posts) -

Always be bombing.

#40 Posted by Stackboy (483 posts) -

I don't think they will stop. Ryan wouldn't want them to.

#41 Posted by Ghostiet (5228 posts) -

Ryan would haunt the shit out of the office if it didn't.

#42 Posted by IBurningStar (2160 posts) -

You can't stop the Endurance Run. You can't stop Giant Bomb.

#43 Posted by Aaron_G (1611 posts) -

Yes, the show will go on. Nothing will stop them.

#44 Edited by Abendlaender (2768 posts) -

Of course it will, don't be stupid. They wouldn't DARE to just give up because of this, Ryan would haunt them forever. They will continue and they will make it through this. But the GB community needs to back them up, understand that there probably wont be a podcast or much content on the site on the next few weeks.

#45 Posted by hippocrit (237 posts) -

Ryan Davis helped to build not only the best website on the internet, but one of the most closely knit communities as well. If every member the GB staff died because some idiot put them all on the same helicopter, the community would find a way to make it live on!

#46 Edited by Flacracker (1609 posts) -

I love Ryan but you guys are overestimating his role on the site. How many reviews did he write in 2012? Like 5? In all of the treads where we have discussed content people tended to agree that Ryan did the least amount of it. Also Ryan would hate to see Giant Bomb fall and Jeff would too. Also to the person that said that a new guy wouldn't have the same rapport as they do now then what do you think of Patrick? Giant Bomb will live on.

#47 Posted by Gatehouse (583 posts) -

I really, really hope so. This site is a major part of my daily life and I'm not sure what I'd do without both the site and the Bombcast still existing. It won't be the same without that magnificent bastard though.

#48 Edited by HellBound (1060 posts) -

It will continue. The thought the site will end is just pure ignorance. Look at game company's. Ifinity Ward is not the same people.

This is Jeff's life, Brad's life. Drew's life, Vinny's life and now Rories. What are they gonna do go back to gamespot?

#49 Posted by GoombahMIke (54 posts) -

They're not going anywhere.

#50 Posted by Fenrisulfr (141 posts) -

Full speed ahead, duders!

You can't stop the Endurance Run. You can't stop Giant Bomb.

C'mon. They're basically the same thing.
