Initial Impressions of the Wii U.

During my venture into the lion's den (the holiday rush) I came home with some presidents for family and a Wii U (for myself). I've spend the night messing around with it and seeing what the system is all about. That is of course, after the initial updates which seemed to last (!)FOREVER(!) I'm not saying I have immediate buyer's remorse at the moment, but this system isn't giving me a good first impression. I've started really wondering what this system will look like in a year. Of course, this is from just a few hours with it, so maybe it will grow on me. Did you buy a Wii U? If so, what are your thoughts?

the "maintenance" part of it is surely not gonna make anyone happy. once you start using it, start experiencing the awesomeness of Miiverse and what it can do for your everyday gaming and how much fun you can have with NintendoLand alone, you'll surely sing a different song (unless your heart is cold and made out of stone).

@DeF: I've still trying to wrap my head around MiiVerse. I played some New Super Mario Bros. U. I wasn't thinking I was gonna be as cold on it as the GB crew was, since I didn't play but a smidgen of the NSMB on the Wii and never played the one on 3DS; but I kind of am. Haven't played a whole lot of it though, so my opinion may change. What I've played of NintendoLand though, I really like.

@MrPilkington: if you haven't played it elsewhere already, get yourself some Trine 2 on the eShop (it's on sale in both EU and NA right now) by the way. That's an awesome game to play strictly on the gamepad (especially with the touch controls for the wizard powers).

Miiverse is gonna reveal itself to you once you are stuck in a game and or just have a random question and pop on there, ask away (with a screenshot even), go back to the game or browse other messages and when you check back in, someone will have already responded to you (with a check mark telling you if they've played the game in question).

I also love the TV Remote features and the browser. Having the ability to switch inputs or turn the TV on or off right from the gamepad is pretty cool and the browser on WIi U is easily the best one on any game system I have seen (no idea how the Vita browser compares right now, though).

Can't chime in with comments regarding NSMBU since I haven't played that yet (will be getting it tomorrow). From what I've seen, there's already a ton that I'm gonna love, though. Challenges, secrets, world map, and all that jazz.

Nintendo Land, by the way, has a ton of secret or slightly hidden stuff that'll reveal itself to you only after playing it a while (like the fact that you can play the six solo games with a second person via "assist play" (just turn on a Wiimote and a second player can help you out!) or the two unlockable extra stages in Luigi's Ghost Mansion! And don't underestimate how simple the Metroid, Pikmin and Zelda attractions may look at first. They get balls hard!

@DeF: I'm actually starting to understand a little of what MiiVerse is all about. It's kind of like facebook for the Wii U. I haven't grasped everything, but I have at least gotten the idea that this is different than other systems. I also might need to get ZombiU.
