So, Dragon Age III (a.k.a Inqusition) is a next gen title that begs the question... how the hell is Bioware handling importing choices if at all? Well, today they have announced Dragon Age Keep. An application where you can shape and mold every choice as you had or want it going in to Inquisition. They are also looking to cloud based methods of importing existing PS3 and 360 save files if you don't want to bother manually setting up your world.

You can see more detail in the blog post here: http://blog.bioware.com/2013/08/28/the-dragon-age-keep/

You can also apply for the closed beta here: https://dragonagekeep.com

Neat! I just applied. And I'm really looking forward to this game. And the multiplayer.

So basically a legitimized savegame editor? Neat.

Would extremely doubt it right now. It would all depend on how that information is stored. If it's a text document then yeah it should be easily imported but if it's something that is saved within the engine then probably not with their change to Frostbite 3.

Edit: actually just checked. Seems its stored in a XML format.

Shouldn't be difficult to manage then.

That's actually smart of them. One of the worst parts about ME was being unable to get a fully realized playthrough of 2 or 3 without having a save file.

That's pretty dope.

The part I find interesting is their "other games you play" list. Is this games they are emulating or taking cues from, is it merely games they believe people who typically play Dragon Age would play?

  • Batman: Arkham series
  • BioShock series
  • Dark Souls
  • Dead Space series
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Dragon's Dogma
  • Far Cry series
  • Guild Wars series
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
  • Mass Effect series
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • TERA Online
  • The Elder Scrolls series
  • The Witcher series
  • The Walking Dead
  • Tomb Raider
  • Uncharted series
  • World of Warcraft

In the little box for "tell us why we should select you", I cut a Hulk Hogan promo. SO WATCHA GONNA DO BROTHER, WHEN BRODEHOUSE BETA TESTS YOUUUUUUU??!!

Questionable choice, imo. They lost way too many people with Dragon Age 2 - if they want to turn this franchise around they should be making it clear that this is genuinely a fresh start, not clouding the issue by pulling in old decisions. It's also kinda weird when you consider that they already just let you randomly resurrect your character between Origins and Awakening, so there's already broken continuity in the history of a lot of players.

If they are going to do this I think they need to present it better than just as a save editor. Go the interactive comic book route and give new players the chance to go through the important parts of the story so far. Put the comic up online and make them freely accessible to anybody, generate a save file in 'The Cloud' based on the decisions made and then be all 'Your save file is ready to go! Order Inquisition now on your platform of choice to continue the story!!'

Pretty cool. It's definitely something that games of this type have needed. Though honestly, I kind of wish they'd get away from some of Dragon Age's splintered continuity, I want a fresh start.

That list says "Action RPG" to me, there are enough tactical games with at least the popularity of a Kingdoms of Amalur or a Dragon's Dogma to have included on the list if they wanted.
