Rise Against is the band in question.
I started listening to it last night after my flatmate said they are pretty good.
It's not normally my kind of music as I'm more into industrial / goth.
But so far, even thought the song writing is super dry and a little juvenile, it's not that bad.
It seems a silly question, but are these guys in the same kind of lame outsetting as 'My Chemical Romance' or anything?
Is it ok to like this band?
" Why does it matter? If you like it, listen to it. "This.
Why the hell should you care what any of us think?
" Why does it matter? If you like it, listen to it. "Well there a few factors that can turn me off a band very easily. It sounds stupid I know, but I would just like to know what the general fan base is like for them.
I would say they are pretty much in the exact same boat as My Chemical Romance. I'm not really a fan of either band.
" @sodiumCyclops: Rise Agaisnt is awesome. and you shouldn't care what other people think about your music taste. "Alright man, I think this thread was pretty silly now that I think about it. They are awesome and I shall continue to think so! :D
" I love Rise Against. Sure their lyrics can sometimes fall into the whole anti-establishment band thing but so do a lot of bands. "I agree with this one.
Rise Against arnt one of them bands that its cool to hate on like MCR. They have a pretty large fanbase but there nowhere on the same level of mass appeal as MCR which is pretty much the main reason they tend to be hated in the first place. Rise Against seem to be a pretty well respected band.
This isn't high school, buddy. If you like the band, listen to them, and fuck what everyone else thinks.
Listen to whatever you want.
I don't like them, but at least they aren't "Wah wah wah I cut myself" like some other bands.
I think you guys are missing the point of his question. From what I can tell, he's asking if they're untalented sellout bullshit like Milli Vanilli or Vanilla Ice. A band wherein the band itself is mostly inconsequential; they could switch out all the members of the band and it wouldn't matter because the band is nothing more than a name. He wants to know if they have any integrity as artists or if they came out of the cookie-cutter music machine; groomed and focus group tested.

I've never heard of the band, but I feel inclined to advise you against listening to them and instead listen to Electric Wizard.
" It's okay to listen to any band, except something that espouses racial hatred or something equally as abhorrent. "I agree with your mind, can we be friends?
For a sec, I thought OP was talking about Raised Fist. Since he's not, I don't know what he's talking about

"How dare you insult Milli Vanilli AND Vanilla Ice like that.
" @buzz_clik said:I loved that song until i listened a bit more. After breaking up with my girlfriend of 3 years, kinda hard to listen to it now." It's okay to listen to any band, except something that espouses racial hatred or something equally as abhorrent. "Like a lot of early West Coast rap? Also, Rise Against is great. I just can't listen to "Savior" anymore. "

"I agree with the general idea of, "if you like it listen to it" but I can tell you that Rise Against have a lot more musical talent than My Chemical Romance if that's important to you at all. They're one of my favorite bands, glad people are still discovering their stuff.
The only time I start to dislike a band is when they get to a popularity level where you here their songs in commercials, movies, and radio constantly. For me I kinda liked Vampire Weekend when they first broke, but after hearing their songs as often as I have I dont listen to them anymore. The same goes for MGMT, once my girlfriend started playing that in the car nonstop for a week I got turned off pretty quick.
I can dig what the OP is saying. I don't know music in general. I'm a dinosaur in terms of music so I'm a pretty big fan of Metallica and other old skool metal. Unfortunately, that type of music is going downhill and I'm worrying about being a grandpa when it comes to music, talking about the good ole days of music. Anyone here recommend what's popular and somewhat decent? I'm open for anything since I just don't know music in general.
No, your a bad person and should be ashamed of yourself.
Of course its ok to like that band, its ok to like band you want what does it matter if other people approve of it. Unless you like the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus and then you need to go back to my first statement.
I really like Rise Against, but I can help feel they peaked with Siren Song of the Counter Culture. I love all of the songs on that album and the later albums have several tracks I dislike as well as some great ones.
I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but on The Sufferer and The Witness the tracks Ready to Fall and The Good Left Undone have almost identical notes in the chorus.
