I feel like there is but I might be wrong. Just a game where you work your way up to big boss robots that you have to take out. Somebody should make that if not.
Borderlands 2? It plays nothing like Monster Hunter, but there's 4 peoples and you fight higher level robots as you level up and it's all about equipment.
But no, don't think there be a game like what you're looking for.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. Casshan was one of the characters included in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
@vinny_says: Casshern is pretty great, probably one of the things that Mega Man is inspired by (along with Astro Boy). He's got a robot dog named Friender, cause it's his friend.
