not really sure why i just thought of this, but for me it's Pokemon.  not saying i want to run out and play it, but that is one gigantic franchise that i haven't played one second of
and WoW, i have successfully steered clear of WoW thus far.  i saw what that game did to some of my friends and i play WAY TOO DAMN MANY GAMES on every platform to let one single game dominate my everything.  also, i enjoy seeing the sun from time to time =)

Metal Gear Solid.  Never played one except for a few minutes of 4's demo.  Everyone talks about the story so much that I feel I'd have to go back to 1 or 2 to get the full effect.  Since I doubt I'll ever do that, this is a major franchise I'll likely miss.  That is unless Konami reboots the series or spins something off that's fresh but based in the MGS universe.

I haven't played any Uncharted games yet, I actually wanted to and ordered a copy of the game but received an empty box. Still hopefully I'll get to give it a go eventually.

Never played a single Metroid game.

Anything only on PlayStation (Metal Gear [for the most part, at least], Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, etc.), Civilization, Resident Evil, Starcraft...

#8 Posted by Meltac (2000 posts) -

Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil are the only two I can think of.

#9 Edited by crusader8463 (14744 posts) -

Off the top of my head:

  • Ratchet and Clank - One of the many PS2 era franchises I missed and wished I had of played.
  • Sly Cooper - Same as above
  • Jack and Daxter- Same as above.
  • Metroid - Zero interest in this franchise.
  • Castlevania- Same as metroid.
  • Gran Turismo- Don't care for racing games or cars. The game always looked extremely  boring to me.
  • Street Fighter- I think I may have played a game or two in a local bowling alley once, but I can't remember.
  • Max Payne- Always looked cool, but never enough to play for some reason.
  • Diablo- I just can't stand all the clicking the game requires.
  • Uncharted- Didn't have a PS3 until recently, and I'm not a fan of shooters on consoles so I'm waiting for the bargain bin or combo pack.
  • Metal Gear- I kind of played that demo of 2 and I could never understand why people liked it.
  • Unreal Tournament- I was a Quake guy.
  • Prince of Persia- Watched videos and people playing it and it never did anything for me.
  • Resident Evil- I played and beat 5, but it did nothing for me. Haven't played any of the other games any serious amount ether.

  • Fallout
  • Elder Scrolls
  • King's Quest
  • Space Quest
  • Police Quest
  • Simon the Sorcerer
  • Syberia
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Persona
  • Call of Duty
  • Tex Murphy
  • Civilization
  • Zork
  • Myst
Those are all franchises I still haven't touched (i know, shame on me) but plan on doing in the next couple of years.

Call of Duty and Uncharted are the two main ones for me that people don't shut up about.

#12 Posted by Hairy_Fish (375 posts) -

Metroid and Zelda. :/

#13 Posted by hedfone (1746 posts) -

more people need to have a metal gear summer

#14 Edited by TheSmashing (321 posts) -

i've never played Halo, and never felt the need for it.  When it came out i was playing Quake III Arena, and Unreal Tournament

#15 Posted by Gnubberen (814 posts) -

First thing that comes to mind is Final Fantasy... only played about 5 mins of a FF8 Demo, and it didn't really do it for me.

#16 Posted by Dad_Is_A_Zombie (1244 posts) -

Anything from Nintendo since the early nineties.

Biggest gaps in my gaming knowledge are:

Half Life
Duke Nukem
Yes i know, let the stone throwing commence!

#18 Edited by Djeffers03 (2537 posts) -

Final Fantasy
Duke Nukem
Gran Turismo
Resident Evil
Any  Blizzard game.
There a huge list of others but I CBA to write them out. I have played Gran Turismo round someone's house and I've played the Resident Evil 5 demo but nothing more. I've also never owned a Zelda game.

#19 Posted by Khann (3091 posts) -

Don't have a PS3... so everything on that.

#20 Posted by Niall_Sg1 (379 posts) -

Final Fantasy.. I tried playing it on the Game Boy but never really got the hype. Also Resident Evil, but simply because I've seen people struggle with the controls and I don't wanna even try.

Assassin's Creed.

#23 Posted by Romination (2823 posts) -

I've skipped out on Mass Effect entirely. I hadn't even heard of the first one for a while, but when I did, it was during a time I had a pretty ridiculous backlog of games going, and a 20 hours space RPG isn't something I felt I needed to invest in at the time. I've kind of cleared things up, but I never went back...

that makes me sad
i understand trying to get caught up on your backlog believe me, i made it through several games in my backlog very recently and i'm still not done, but seriously, you should check out Mass Effect.  I played 2 right when it came out, then immediately went back and played through the first one and the 2nd one again and by the time i finished i had decided that Mass Effect is one of the greatest franchises i've ever played.  if i had a list of the greatest franchises of all time, Mass Effect would be #2
the story couldn't be more epic, it looks great, it plays great and the way the part 2 pulls off your save file from the first one is fantastic, i wish more games did that.  it really ties the story together and makes it a personal experience. like, if you killed a dude in the first one you obviously will never see him again, but if you didn't kill him he may come around and help you with something in the 2nd (or 3rd) one.  just knowing that my actions from the first game will carry over all the way through the 3rd installment makes me happy, well done, you should totally play it
#25 Posted by obcdexter (717 posts) -

I never played an Assassin's Creed game - and I don't know if I ever will.
Fable comes to mind, as well. Don't really care for that franchise.

#26 Posted by superjop (84 posts) -

I never played a single CoD game, and am never going to... Not really into FPS's, and even if I was I'd probably choose a Sci-Fi one over a Historical or Modern Military one, like Bioshock.
Oh... also, Bioshock!

Fable, Zelda, metal gear, and Uncharted

#29 Posted by RIDEBIRD (1252 posts) -

Anything japanese except MGS, played some Wind Waker and Gran Turismo (1) though. I'll admit it, I loathe pretty much all forms of japanese game design. I don't really know why I love MGS.
Other than that, most series that started on the PS3, or continued for that matter - never played God of War nor Killzone. Also, most newer console exclusives, since I sold my 360 a couple of years ago and now exclusively play on PC. There's only one series I really regret missing though, and that's Baldur's Gate. Was too damn young when it came out, and now it's just very, very old.

#30 Posted by Haethos (330 posts) -

I know it's a relatively recent franchise, but Uncharted would be the one series that makes me -sorta- wish that I owned a PS3.

#31 Edited by themartyr (723 posts) -

Mass Effect, and probably the biggest franchise of the moment: CoD, since CoD became what Alex Navarro would call A Thing.  Last title I touched was CoD3. Oh yeah, and Assassin's Creed.

#32 Posted by SumDeus (1898 posts) -

A ton. The biggest I can think of right now are God of War and Mass Effect. (I ordered Mass Effect a few days ago, though)

#33 Edited by JackSukeru (6080 posts) -

Never had much interest in Call of Duty, played the demo for 2 many years ago, don't remember much from it.
Mass Effect on the other hand I have been interested in a while and just bought the first one on Steam.
Edit: Oh and Guitar Hero/Rock Band and all that junk.

#34 Posted by tracerace11 (316 posts) -

Plenty, but the main one to me is Mass Effect..... tried to play the first one, but got tired really quickly.  I may give it another go sometime soon....... I won't bet on that feeling being acted upon though.

#35 Posted by Johnny5 (1424 posts) -

Zelda. Tried getting into it now. Didn't like it much.

#36 Posted by Video_Game_King (36566 posts) -

Probably. There's Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, kinda (I played a few minutes of the first before I realized that the games aren't good, and it froze), um....that's all I can think of, at the moment.

#37 Posted by ShaneDev (1702 posts) -

I have never played a God Of War game and I think thats about it.

#38 Posted by fox01313 (5175 posts) -

Gran Turismo, Dragon Quest, Pokemans, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy

#39 Posted by Rawrz (604 posts) -

Fable, Mass Effect,  Final Fantasy, Zelda, Metroid, any of the major PS2/PS3 franchises that never came to the xbox since I never owned either console, Bioshock, and many more I cant think of.

Yes, it's just a coincidence they all begin with the letter G.

#44 Posted by CandleJakk (768 posts) -

Mass Effect, Max Payne, Doom (Though I have now purchased these in the steam sale), all Blizzard titles.

#45 Posted by TehFlan (1954 posts) -

Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed. I plan on getting to both at some point.

#46 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19816 posts) -

  • Any sports franchise with the exception of NHL
  • Doom
  • Max Payne
  • Uncharted
  • Killzone
  • MotorStorm

To name a few.

Any survival horror franchise, I haven't touched.
I'm going to say Zelda as well, since the last Zelda game I played was Adventure of Link, and that was 20 years ago
#48 Posted by Zippedbinders (1082 posts) -

The people who are saying they've never played Doom make me very sad, as its one of my favorite franchises. That said, I never managed to get into Quake.
I've never managed to play any Blizzard games other than Justice League Task Force and StarCraft 2 (which I still played very little of). I've also managed to avoid Call of Duty.

I'd say that still counts, The Adventure of Link was a great entry, but i do feel old now since you put it like that =)
#50 Posted by Green_Incarnate (1788 posts) -

I did play some of 12, but I don't think it really counts, so Final Fantasy.
