not really sure why i just thought of this, but for me it's Pokemon. not saying i want to run out and play it, but that is one gigantic franchise that i haven't played one second of
and WoW, i have successfully steered clear of WoW thus far. i saw what that game did to some of my friends and i play WAY TOO DAMN MANY GAMES on every platform to let one single game dominate my everything. also, i enjoy seeing the sun from time to time =)
Is there a huge franchise that you've missed entirely?
Metal Gear Solid. Never played one except for a few minutes of 4's demo. Everyone talks about the story so much that I feel I'd have to go back to 1 or 2 to get the full effect. Since I doubt I'll ever do that, this is a major franchise I'll likely miss. That is unless Konami reboots the series or spins something off that's fresh but based in the MGS universe.
i'm getting into it now because i just got a ps3 this christmas but metal gear solid. this and elder scrolls. fallut was on the list till i got new vegas for ps3 as well for christmas so yea. lol
Off the top of my head:
- Ratchet and Clank - One of the many PS2 era franchises I missed and wished I had of played.
- Sly Cooper - Same as above
- Jack and Daxter- Same as above.
- Metroid - Zero interest in this franchise.
- Castlevania- Same as metroid.
- Gran Turismo- Don't care for racing games or cars. The game always looked extremely boring to me.
- Street Fighter- I think I may have played a game or two in a local bowling alley once, but I can't remember.
- Max Payne- Always looked cool, but never enough to play for some reason.
- Diablo- I just can't stand all the clicking the game requires.
- Uncharted- Didn't have a PS3 until recently, and I'm not a fan of shooters on consoles so I'm waiting for the bargain bin or combo pack.
- Metal Gear- I kind of played that demo of 2 and I could never understand why people liked it.
- Unreal Tournament- I was a Quake guy.
- Prince of Persia- Watched videos and people playing it and it never did anything for me.
- Resident Evil- I played and beat 5, but it did nothing for me. Haven't played any of the other games any serious amount ether.
- Fallout
- Elder Scrolls
- King's Quest
- Space Quest
- Police Quest
- Simon the Sorcerer
- Syberia
- Assassin's Creed
- Persona
- Call of Duty
- Tex Murphy
- Civilization
- Zork
- Myst
Those are all franchises I still haven't touched (i know, shame on me) but plan on doing in the next couple of years.
i've never played Halo, and never felt the need for it. When it came out i was playing Quake III Arena, and Unreal Tournament
First thing that comes to mind is Final Fantasy... only played about 5 mins of a FF8 Demo, and it didn't really do it for me.
Biggest gaps in my gaming knowledge are:
Half Life
Doom
Duke Nukem
Metroid
Zelda
Yes i know, let the stone throwing commence!
Doom
Tekken
Final Fantasy
Castlevania
Duke Nukem
Gran Turismo
Resident Evil
Any Blizzard game.
There a huge list of others but I CBA to write them out. I have played Gran Turismo round someone's house and I've played the Resident Evil 5 demo but nothing more. I've also never owned a Zelda game.
I've skipped out on Mass Effect entirely. I hadn't even heard of the first one for a while, but when I did, it was during a time I had a pretty ridiculous backlog of games going, and a 20 hours space RPG isn't something I felt I needed to invest in at the time. I've kind of cleared things up, but I never went back...

that makes me sad
i understand trying to get caught up on your backlog believe me, i made it through several games in my backlog very recently and i'm still not done, but seriously, you should check out Mass Effect. I played 2 right when it came out, then immediately went back and played through the first one and the 2nd one again and by the time i finished i had decided that Mass Effect is one of the greatest franchises i've ever played. if i had a list of the greatest franchises of all time, Mass Effect would be #2
the story couldn't be more epic, it looks great, it plays great and the way the part 2 pulls off your save file from the first one is fantastic, i wish more games did that. it really ties the story together and makes it a personal experience. like, if you killed a dude in the first one you obviously will never see him again, but if you didn't kill him he may come around and help you with something in the 2nd (or 3rd) one. just knowing that my actions from the first game will carry over all the way through the 3rd installment makes me happy, well done, you should totally play it
Anything japanese except MGS, played some Wind Waker and Gran Turismo (1) though. I'll admit it, I loathe pretty much all forms of japanese game design. I don't really know why I love MGS.
Other than that, most series that started on the PS3, or continued for that matter - never played God of War nor Killzone. Also, most newer console exclusives, since I sold my 360 a couple of years ago and now exclusively play on PC. There's only one series I really regret missing though, and that's Baldur's Gate. Was too damn young when it came out, and now it's just very, very old.
Never had much interest in Call of Duty, played the demo for 2 many years ago, don't remember much from it.
Mass Effect on the other hand I have been interested in a while and just bought the first one on Steam.
Edit: Oh and Guitar Hero/Rock Band and all that junk.
Plenty, but the main one to me is Mass Effect..... tried to play the first one, but got tired really quickly. I may give it another go sometime soon....... I won't bet on that feeling being acted upon though.
Probably. There's Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, kinda (I played a few minutes of the first before I realized that the games aren't good, and it froze), um....that's all I can think of, at the moment.
Mass Effect, Max Payne, Doom (Though I have now purchased these in the steam sale), all Blizzard titles.
Any survival horror franchise, I haven't touched.
I'm going to say Zelda as well, since the last Zelda game I played was Adventure of Link, and that was 20 years ago
The people who are saying they've never played Doom make me very sad, as its one of my favorite franchises. That said, I never managed to get into Quake.
I've never managed to play any Blizzard games other than Justice League Task Force and StarCraft 2 (which I still played very little of). I've also managed to avoid Call of Duty.
