So the recent acquisition of Atlus parent company Index by Sega has a lot of people (including myself) worried about localization issues. Given Sega's recent track record of not localizing things (PSO and Yakuza as an example), it's gotten me thinking about the future of localization. These games aren't brought over because they don't make enough money, but what if you reduced those costs?
More and more games are becoming available through digital download services. With an ever increasing focus on digital downloads, what effect will this have on niche titles getting localized? Without knowing how much cost of localization just goes into manufacturing retail disks, it's hard for me to guess.
What do you guys think? Will a larger focus on digital downloads mean more games getting localized?
