Hello Bombers, I'm looking for a new RTS to dive into, preferably one that's fast paced and has a good single player campaign. I was hoping you guys could help me find one, because I'm coming up blank. I've already exhausted the following (somewhat recent) options:

  • Retribution & Chaos Rising
  • Sup Com 2
  • Total War: Shogun 2 (I only tried the demo and didn't like it. Sadly, I haven't liked a Total War game since Empire)
  • Men of War
I'm still playing a lot of SC2 but its mostly trying wonky builds against AI, single player for achievements or random custom games. I don't think SC2 multiplayer is for me though, besides I can't seem to find anyone regular to play with and the game gets boring alone anyway.

I do enjoy RTS single player campaigns, especially something like Relic's DOW or Company of Heroes games. But I can't seem to find anything similar to that. Is the genre really as dry as it seems at the moment?

Have you played World in Conflict? It's all about solid command of the units/support abilities at your disposal. It also looks amazing, even four years later.

Yeah, I played that one at launch. I might just reinstall it or Warcraft III, since I can't find anything new.

After my last RROD, I don't have an Xbox 360 anymore. I tried Brutal Legend on PS3 and it was an infuriating experience. Console RTS are probably not for me.

Multiwinia is a really interesting take on RTS conventions that I personally found to be really enjoyable a few years back. There's no resource gathering and the game is a lot more about crowd control and mob management than micromanagement,  but there's still a fair amount of depth to it all. The fact that later on thousands of units can be fighting simultaneously can also make for an interesting sight. I suggest at least giving the demo on Steam a whirl, although the game itself is also just $10.

I've just started playing Company of Heroes, and I've gotta say. It's really fun. And I normally hate and/or suck at RTS'.

Edit: Just noticed you mentioned it already. Still, you should play it more.

The Homeworld series has always been pretty entertaining for me. It's the weakest of the Relic RTSs but it's definitely unique plus the music is great. The single player campaigns aren't bad too but they're notoriously difficult.

Dawn of War 2?

If you're willing to dip into the old back catalogue, the old C&Cs;, Age of Empires 2, Dark Reign 1, 2 was ok as well, Battle Realms (the game Blizzard ripped off to make WC3 ;p), and Myth 2 are all classics that still hold up.

@Killjoi: You should try the Ground Control series. Ground Control I is free (just google it) and Ground Control II is available on GOG for $10

Thanks for all the recommendations guys. I'll try Sins of a Solar Empire because apparently, I've already played every other RTS in the last decade.

Sins is great, and yeah, CoH is one of my favorite RTS games and I haven't seen anything like it lately. I guess there's men of war?
