Looks like a large portion of Madcatz SE sticks may be defective

I received my Madcatz arcade stick via Gamestop a couple days ago. Tonight was the first time I really got into it. I quickly ran into an issue where the stick would get stuck to the right, forcing my character to walk towards that side of the screen. I packaged the controller up with the receipt, intending to return it to Gamestop tomorrow. Going online I saw a few threads regarding this issue and it looks like every Madcatz SE stick is defective.

Here's a quote from a poster in Shoryuken:

"I picked up my fightstick today ( no TE yet ) and found a major problem with the madcatz joystick... I was experiencing the same " stuck joystick" problem that others have mentioned in this forum and decided to take it upon myself to find the issue. Since my local gamestops didn't have anymore sticks left i decided to say "F" the warranty and rip this S.O.B apart.

After removing the mounting plate, the gate and the PCB i immediately found the problem. there is a small metal washer in between the body of the joystick and the spring cap. the washer moves around and the plastic spring cap gets stuck on the grooves where the washer is supposed to sit. this was a minor problem until i noticed the washer lifting up when the joystick was moved in any direction. i decided to check the joystick PCB and noticed the the washer was rubbing the contacts away. This washer was eating my joystick

The fix? i just super glued the washer down and sanded down the edges of the spring cap so it wouldn't get stuck any more... i wonder how long the stick would have lasted with that washer rubbing my joystick to death?This is probably the reason for anybody having directional input issues. the washer is probably touching two contacts at the same time..."

I originally went into Gamestop to pre-order the TE, but it was sold out, forcing me to order the SE. I'm probably just going to get a refund, buy the joypad for the time being, and wait for Madcatz to fix the issue.

Well it has been officially licensed and endorsed by Capcom. It's pretty sad that they would put their name on this crap. They should have gone with Hori.

I'm glad I opted for the Fightpad over that then. FINGERS CROSSED it turns out to be fine.

This = lordofultima's post has made me want to avoid these things completely.

I haven't had any problems with the SE stick so far, and hopefully it will stay that way.

Though, I have noticed the stick is becoming less responsive......

Madcatz lives up to their reputation.

I've heard a lot of negative coments so far, sucks since its about an 80 dollar + investment.

Goddammit. Why does this have to happen? I thought MadCatz was going to redeem itself. I guess not :(

I am going to get my SE stick in the mail soon so maybe it isn't in the first run of sticks which is good...? I don't know. I just hope it is a solid device.

I was hoping that the SE would be good enough for me to not purchase the TE stick. Well, I am going to use the money that I would have been spending on the Tournament Edition stick for a PS3 anyway.

have any of these mad catz joints ever been reliable and non-clunky?

Madcatz isn't a very good company Gameshark went to hell when the aquired it.

Yeah, I'm going with the Sega Saturn-style fightpad as well. 

dude, it's madcatz, they make crap.  I remember once I accidentally bought a madcatz 360 controller instead of a microsoft one, and the analog sticks were borked the next week.
