LucasArts Does The Right Thing On Steam

Let's have a quick round of applause for whoever at LucasArts planned this week's first release of the company's classic titles on Steam. As announced on Monday, the service is now host to adventure favorites like LOOM, The Dig, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, along with some Star Wars titles ranging from excellent (Republic Commando) to passable (Battlefront II) to best ignored (Starfighter).

Great news. And if the modern-day availability of LucasArts' vaunted back catalog weren't enough, the pricing for all these games is right on the nose, especially $5 for each of the adventures. Kudos to Lucas for recognizing the sweet spot for this sort of content and not overpricing games that are lovingly remembered but also, let's face it, old. G4's Patrick "extremer" Klepek put together a comprehensive guide to the games currently available, if you want to know more. Look at these deals!

Not too many more from Lucas im bothered about. But as far as point & click games go, the original two broken sword games would suit me down to the ground

I am with ya on the classics. The X-Wing and Tie Fighter games need to be on there along with Dark Forces. This is a step in the right direction though and I can't complain about Republic Commando for $9.99. Now if only they would make Republic Commando 2...

Yes, they don't seem to be fleecing anybody with those prices. 

I'd agree with you on the point that most of the prices are good, though I'd debate that sentiment about Battlefront 2.  I mean, it's a four year old game released in the Xbox Platinum Hits (maybe Playstation Greatest Hits) line, which puts out older classics at $20 MSRPs.  That time is clearly long past, and it's still $20.  Honestly, I'm a big enough fan of BF2 that if it released at $10 I'd bite immediately, but at $20 I'm definitely hesitating because that's practically a whole month of Gamefly.

Needs more Rebel Assault.

Wait for the Steam sale where you can pick up the entire Lucas Arts catalogue (including the good stuff) for about $20.

edit:  Everything on that list over $10 is overpriced imo.  Any news on a bundle price?

$5 for 14 year old games is not what I consider to be a good deal.  I'll wait for Steam to bundle everything together in a discounted "LucasArts Huge Games Pack", if I ever get it at all.

The Dig and Fate of Atlantis for 5 dollarbucks each? WHEE! GOODBYE MONEY!

I am currently in a dilemma as to which of these to get. I could easily go crazy and buy them all, but I really shouldn't.

I'd like to see the Rogue Squadron games make an appearence.

xwing vs tie fighter. and a port of rogue squadron 2, i know it will never happen, but i loved that game on the cube.

Honestly, they should have chosen GoG.com over Steam. Either way, I've purchased Fate of Atlantis. I would like to see Day of the Tentacle, personally, since that's a game I've been wanting to play for ages.

Clearly a page taken from Good Old Games, even the prices are close enough for the older stuff.

Well when it comes to milking things, i think that George Lucas is the best of them all, so this is not that surprising.

The Dig was awesome, but so where most of the games on there, except Thrillville

Have any of these been updated with Steam achievements, and or improvements?

Because I have all these, and ScummVM, and I find it a bit confusing why I should re-buy any of this.
So I guess, have fun people who haven't had the chance to play any of this yet.

Here's hoping they release some more adventure games, it's a shame Beneath a Steel sky isnt a Lucasarts game as I would love to have that on Steam.

Fate of Atlantis was a good one.  Hell, I think where they excelled was their adventure games because everything I want to say they should add is one.  Day of the Tentacle probably brought me my biggest gaming laugh, partly due to the writing but partly due to their willingness to let me keep making the same mistake.

That, and Dark Forces was frigging great (no Force powers please, thank you very much.  Alternating fire modes will do just fine).

And Outlaws.

And Afterlife.

And the embarrassingly titled by always excellent original Ballblazer.

Republic Commando!!!

Remake of Day of the Tentacle, followed by a sequel.  Then, they should finally make the planned Loom sequels.  RUSTY LIVES.

Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, Outlaws, Dark Forces and the Monkey Islands, all of that would be nice.

The Knights of the Old Republic games would be another obvious choice.

I'll be picking up Republic Commando for the great price of $10 and The Fate of Atlantis.

Full Throttle, Dark Forces Grim Fandango, Sam and Max hit the road, Day of the tentacle, are all missing.

Also, I was hoping for a good bundle. I wont' buy most of these games by themselves but if it's a good bundle I'll pick it up.

Playing Fate of Atlantis as we speak...I'm actually getting choked up!

10 Bones for R. Commando is nice.  I'd like to see X-wing, TIE Fighter, XW vs. TF and Balance of Power.  Maybe even XW Alliance.
