Manchester after the Apocalypse

I hope this isn't spam or anything or already in a thread (I seem to do that a lot). However as a big Fallout fan, I found this really interesting. Checkout: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-16054633 I think the pictures have a lot more feel of Fallout3 than New Vegas, especially the one of the Printworks and the theatre showing South Pacific.

I'm a Londoner myself and only know Manchester but these pictures still resonate. I would love to see someone do this to my regular London haunts, or even better to have a whole Fallout game set in ruined London. They need to freshen it up for the next one so it would be a good choice - imagine English Pip Boy and Vaults. With the emphasis switch from 50's Americana to the more austere Britain of the 50's still recovering from the ravages of the second world war. Although on saying that I realise that some parts of London were pretty war ruined by conventional weapons at that point (some of it still not fixed up when I was growing up in the 80's).

Fallout in the U.K.? Anyone?

I don't think the 'humour' of Fallout and the 50s aesthetic would really mesh with a UK setting. The UK setting is good for more survival, bleaker, story driven games I think.

I was so sure this was going to be about both Manchester teams not getting into the playoffs.

LOL I thought this is related to the champion's league results.

Yeh pretty much this. As a Londoner I've got to say how funny I found it all.

Ha! I didn't think about the Champions League connection - but you are right.

@leebmx: I guess this is the city after they lost?

Those pictures are the results of Mario setting off one too many fireworks in his house again.

It was very amusing. There's a good clip of Fergie walking out of a press conference after the 2-2 with Benfica when a journo asks why his team is struggling in Europe. He seems to take offence at the notion that they were struggling which makes it even funnier that they got knocked out in the next game. It's here:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15853955.stm

Aha! Thanks for that.

Those images totally have an awesome Fallout vibe. Fallout:UK would be a great new locale for the series to visit.

Well, you need something to laugh about after Arsenal imploded this season ;)

Seriously though, I totally thought this was about the ManU game too.

Considering how well they've been doing lately I don't really think that's a problem anymore.

They look really cool, I can't say I've ever thought about Fallout UK, but it'd be a neat idea.

Wow, so you're telling me that some relatively obscure artist recreates a Western city but done brown and black as apposed to streets that are vibrant and colorful. How unoriginal, cheap, and gimmicky can you get? Come on. Why are any of you surprised? This is something that has been done and captured in Photography for decades not to mention centuries in Art. That last images of the Ferris wheel was a clear, blatant rip-off of the real abandoned one in Pripyat.

Fallout UK has already been made. Have none of you heard of this 'fine' place?!

I've seen them at the gallery. Theyre hot

#21 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago

I was almost certain the 'apocalypse' in the title referred to the two Manchester clubs playing in the Europa League now...

#22 Posted by mac_n_nina (272 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago

@leebmx: I thought there was rioting or something because both of the Manchester teams got eliminated from CL. Unfortunately after the sale of CR7 and the insurgence of Arab money over at City, ManU will no longer be top 3 teams in Europe.

@Ravenlight: I'm not brushed up on my Fallout lore, but wasn't Europe left pretty unscathed by the war?

They are pretty well done and fun to look at. True, as another poster said, they are not completely groundbreaking and original but that doesn't mean they aren't fun to look at.

Yeah, after the Combine took over, they pretty much locked down all the nukes :P

Those are some really awesome pictures. WTF! Someone near me has serious garlic breath. Move person! No...don't get closer! Oh my God. Well, I was here first...so you should move. I have to endure your breath for 11 more minutes, oh you better not sit next to m-

Start pulling up images from 4chan or something. Maybe you can scare them away.

Not sure what the praise is about, the editing is poor and the pictures are weak.

The style of the pictures have much more stalker vibe then fallout, still I would much prefer a London setting (even though I live in manchester)

@Hulsey90: The UK as well as much of Europe and the Middle East was embroiled in a war for the last remaining resources leaving it as ravavged and desolate as the US is in the Fallout games. More here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/UKand here is a bit about one the chaps who worked at Interplay (now at Obsidian) mentioning how he'd like to do a team based multiplayer Fallout set during the war from the UK's perspective: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_Resource_Wars

Also football jokes.

It wasn't that I thought they were amazing or anything, I just found them interesting, maybe because some of them are of places I have been to and I enjoy apocalyptic themes. I am no expert on picture editing but I can see that two in particular don't seem all that realistic, pointedly the second and last picture. The tower block in the second is too jagged at the top, you can't see how that would really occur in any sort of disaster and the big wheel with the chunk taken out looks odd as well.

It was the feelings and ideas they evoked for me rather than any marvel at the expertise but I can understand that if you are not familiar with the locations in the pictures or are from somewhere like LA or NYC which have already been depicted it countless altered states they might not carry the same force.

If they did fallout anywhere but America i would want it to be a new offshoot franchise, like Fallout Tactics but not bad. or a third person shooter. Im not totaly opposed to having a fallout set in London, or Amsterdam, or even the whole of Europe. But, I dont know.
