Microsoft Avatars

I have to look at the options for cutomization. If I can't make my avatar look anyhting like me, I better be able to dress like a Ninja. 

But I still like gamer pictures better.

I prefer gamerpics, but I know many people who get a kick of making a virtual self and having a laugh. So long as it isn't anything too gameplay focused and is seen as more of a gimmick I have no real issues with it

I think it could work. I will keep my opinion closed until I can try it out but it looks promising yet I still wish we could keep Gamerpics.

I like the idea. Anyways, the new dash looks great.

Let me change what I said a little.  I'll be ok with the avatars if it is optional or if I can make my avatar something cool and not some guy with a shirt I payed 80 space bucks for.

they're optional.  if you don't like them you don't have to use them.

I kinda like the idea of it.

It doesn't affect gameplay so why cry about it?

I heard that gamerpics can still be used so i'll stick with that most likely. I don't want to lose my Bungie Day 08 pics.

I think they are hideously ugly. The rictus grins the focus on "keeping up with the latest fashions" all seems terribly cynical to me. The good thing about Gamerpics is you can probably find one that suits your tastes but with these no matter how you dress them up if you don't like the basic style of big head, big eyes, big smiles you are never going to be happy.

The idea seems a lot better now that you can keep your old gamer pictures and now we know they won't shove it onto people if they don't want it.

Glad to hear they're optional.  Btw I didn't mean to make it sound like I was crying about it.  I just prefer the gamer pics, but maybe the avatars could be cool.  Idk

Now thinking back I heard it was not optional and Microsoft was going to pay everyone back for the game pics they purchased. 
but that sounds like a mess I heard it on a podcast though, I'm not sure which one though

I'm not opposed to the idea, I just dislike the fact that it's essentially replacing the already popular system - not just GamerPics, but completely altering the social setup of XBOX Live.

It's clear Microsoft thinks they need to address Home and Wii's appeal to "casuals". They really don't, as Sony can attest with their present efforts to address XBOX Live - it's already the industry leader and for a reason. I don't know who convinced Microsoft that they'd gone the wrong way, but they're wrong.

I like em, and I'm gonna like winning clothes n shit in games.

I'd REALLY rather have this than Gamerpics.

Mii's were a ripoff of almost every avatar EVER on the internet. and since the pc is generally microsoft, u could argue mii's are a ripoff

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but my biggest problem with Avatars is the similiarity to Miis.

I'll just about be able to deal with it if I can put my Gamerpic on my avatar's shirt. But I'd still rather not have to deal with it.

I'm indifferent. 
That being said, it's not likely I'll use it.
I bought my 360 for the games, not for it's dashboard features.

Meh, the new dash is cool, but I hate the Blatent ripoff microsoft is pulling here...

I like the new dashboard update. But I really think the new avatar thing is another way for microsoft to make money.

Once again we are just expressing our opinions not whining about it.  So please stop getting upset that some of us don't like the use of avatars.

I think the thing people need to realize is that Gamerpics will still be available in addition to the Avatars.  I personally like the Avatars.

I'm firmly in the "if they are optional then I don't mind" camp.

I'd happy if both gamerpics and avatars could both used, like your gamerpic is used in your gamercard similar to the one found now in the blades and dashboard, while the avatar is used for the casual games, primetime, and whatever else. That may or may not happen, though, and with that all being said, I really think the Avatars are a bad idea that are not going to appeal to most of the people with an Xbox 360.
