Trying to make a list. Who are the most important game designers of all time, according to Giant Bomb. If you can, list names and notable works or contributions.

I'm working on a design piece and this is relevant.

Nice stuff from GT. I'd like as many names as possible.

Sid Meier is the beginning and end of important game designers.

I mean Will Wright, also.

All of them. And certainly not Kojima.

wouldn't compiling a list of "as many names as possible" be counter-productive to compiling a list of "the most important game developers of all time?

Ralph Baer.

John Carmack.

(Important is a far cry from "best," or "most impressive," btw.)

@onan: Not necessarily. I'm going to be editing as much as possible. People disagree on certain developers for their own reasons, but even some younger and more modern developers have specialties that are relevant. Even if they have learned from the masters before them, there's a lot of them doing refined and iterative work that is important and has things to learn from. That's why a comprehensive list will help me draw those lines and see the pedigree of these ideas and their implementation.
