In response the post where everyone talks about their biggest "arcade" purchase regret (mine is Castle Crashers), what "arcade" games have you felt that have been most satisfying?
Mine is Fat Princess. Hands down. I still play it and still love it.
Most satisfying "Arcade" Purchase
Banjo-Kazooie. Without question.
If you want me to narrow this down to Arcade exclusives, then I think I'd have to go with Super Meat Boy, even though I've never finished it and probably won't. Braid's a close runner-up.
Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Hittin me with that remix right out of the gate really started things off with a bang, then the gameplay and the fan service throughout really did it for me in a big way.
For the 360, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 and for the PS3, Everyday Shooter. I still play both to this day while many other arcade purchases haven't been touched since the initial sparkle wore off.
Toy Soldiers I can't really explain why, I just absolutely loved that game. I even played Toy Soldiers: Cold War for 45 minutes at PAX East 2011, until the guy noticed I had been on the kiosk for 20 waves while everyone else was getting five minute shots and then going to play the other summer XBLA games.
Others I absolutely loved; Flower, Trenched, Fat Princess, Geometry Wars 2
That said, I have probably purchased about 50 arcade games between XBLA and PSN, and have disliked/hated at least 40 of them. Not exactly a good run.
Most satisfying would be Braid.
My most played game would probably be Pinball FX 2.
probably Pinball FX 2 so far as time spent per dollar spent but as far as the best experience goes i would have to say N+
Ironically, I would say Castle Crashers has been my most satisfying purchase. I've had some great times with the game playing with friends (in the same room).
I can see why it would be dissapointing for those who have only played in solo though. I don't think it's meant to be played that way.
Flotilla. Every once and awhile I'll fire it up and have a blast. Great indie game.
It's really much too hard to choose, it is either Castle Crashers, 'Splosion Man or Shadow Complex. I can't pick between those.
That is a hard question to answer. I enjoyed Super Meat Boy, but I did put in more time playing Castle Crashers. "Splosion Man was also a great purchase that I spent a decent amount of time with.
If I were to choose one, Castle Crashers is probably it because of the couch co-op with my wife and kids. Lots of good moments.
Castle Crashers or Shadow Complex. Think I got more enjoyment out of Castle Crashers though. I still like to play it every now and then when a friend comes over, and it's a pretty easy game for people that don't necessarily play that many games to pick up.
My favorite arcade game, hands down, is Geometry Wars 2. I have bought, played and enjoyed quite a few Arcade and PSN games, but GW2 is the only one I'd count among my top 5 favorite games of all time.
Braid.
I will always remember that experience 'till the day I die. One of the most satisfying game experiences ever.
Puzzle Quest 1. Bought it on a whim and it was totally worth it.
Worst purchase on the other hand was definitely Battlefield 1943. Laggy and virtually unplayable on a small, standard def screen.
It's Shadow Complex, with Castle Crashers close behind it. Why haven't we seen a sequel to Shadow Complex yet, anyways?
Man I really should try to play Shadow Complex after reading this thread...it didn't click with me like with everybody else apparently. I can't decide between Super Meat Boy, Trials HD and Geometry Wars 2. I think I would take GW2 if I had to choose.I felt the same way i hated what the demo offered but a friend of mine wouldn't let it slide and purchased it o my account while i was in the bathroom, forced to play it for the sake of wasted money i actually loved what the game was and ended up exploring every nook and cranny of the whole map on 2-3 separate playthroughs.
I've bought so much stuff on XBLA and PSN that it's hard to remember it all, but I'd probably have to say that Battlefield 1943 probably felt like the least waste of money for what you got out of it. There's plenty of other decent stuff, but with everything at a $15 price point, now, it's hard to justify most of it. Especially when it doesn't see any attention after the first play. (Not the first play-through, but literally playing it once and never launching it again).
Fat Princess would have been okay, if it wasn't just a mash of random people going their own separate ways with no sense or logic and making every match boring and random as hell.
Exactly what I came in here to post. Maybe Burn Zombie Burn too, since I found appreciatively addicting and really engaging to ante up my scores. It's a toss-up between Braid and Shadow Complex for me. Braid because solving the problems myself made me feel like a genius. Shadow Complex because the quality raised the bar for me 10-fold.
I wish I was better at strategy games, because I really wanted to like that game. I loved the mechanics and the style but I just kept losing lol.Flotilla. Every once and awhile I'll fire it up and have a blast. Great indie game.
I haven't bought many, so I'll say Shatter. Haven't completed it but its fun to pick up and play.
