As Somebody who has been on this site since day one and a paid subscriber since day 1 I'm disappointed in this cross production between gamespot and giant bomb, the two sites serve different audiences and to be honest gamespot the brand and the personalities as a group (individually there all fine) brings nothing positive to the table. With 9 people in the bomb squad (Jeff, Ryan, Brad, Vinny, Drew, Patrick, Alex, Dave and Alexsis) and the special (recurring) guests they have, there is no need or benefit to be had from wheeling in the B-team and watch them struggle to keep up. Alexis, Drew and Dave already don't get enough air(screen? Web?) time. keep up the usually great work guys."

If cbsi wants to either steal the talent (there is so very very much) from giant bomb or merge the sites they can prepare themselves for a war they will lose.

Shoot the crippled donkey and let the stallion run free. (the stallion is giant bomb BTW)

Edit notes: removed the extra "s" in Alexis as it was a typo

Wednesday, camon dude and they're just trying to supply more content. Chill out.

#2 Posted by leinad44 (503 posts) -

We still have TNT and UF. Anything else on top of that is a bonus in my eyes, let them experiment with a new show, it may develop into something great.

#3 Posted by JacDG (2114 posts) -

Guess what, maybe the Bomb guys actually wanted to do this because they like/respect the gamespot people, and had fun with the crossover stuff? If you don't like it, don't watch from now on, there's plenty of content on the site as it is.

Get over it.

WTF is an Alexsis?

#6 Posted by Nodima (1103 posts) -

I liked it, the main point of that show appears to be A) highlighting new stuff and B) highlighting ALL the new stuff. Gamespot is more of a "let's review all of that" sort of website, so it makes sense for them to come in one stuff like Naruto.

That said, they've got the power of two entire companies and they still can't find anyone that knows how to play sports games? I feel like I'm in such an awkward, unsupported ghetto of the Giantbomb community where sports video games are the most interesting genre niche to me and yet the only satisfaction I can get from the coverage of those games is seeing how laymen might approach NBA 2K's daunting interface.

I just don't see Patrick ever logging into, I don't know, Tomb Raider and then jsut running around screaming "I don't know anything about raiding tombs!" while skipping all the tutorials and then screaming again "I don't know anything about shooting arrows!"

Give it time. It's not like we are losing other pieces of content because of it.

My biggest problem with giantbomb at the moment is the part where they actually play and talk about games so if they bring in people who can actually do that then fine by me

You have been on the site since day 1 and yet you only have 80 posts. Way to participate dude.

By all accounts the combined show wad Jeff's idea and if CBSi ever decide to merge the sites then they will just do so - there will be no fight and the only resistence you could offer would be to withhold your traffic.

Um the whole thing seemed really inoffensive. And while the gamespot staff where sort of blah they need time to fit in with the crazy bomb crew (I especially liked Kevin Vanord saying f'ed up whereas jeff is dropping f-bombs left, right and centre). I'm not a huge gamespot person but Kevin and Carolyn do a lot of good work and their reviews are great a lot of the time. They just need time to spice up their camera personas after simply doing video reviews. Interested in seeing where it goes despite the expected backlash for anything new on the site.

Is it wrong that I kind of liked it? I mean, it was a little rough around the edges but its the first show. Its gonna take time for them to get a good cohesive show going but i liked what i saw so far.

@alternate: I've been pretty regular on the site for 3+ years and I only have ~50 posts. I don't think that it's fair to judge participation by post count (depending on what your definition of participation is).

That wasn't Kevin Vanord that was Brad. He had a flannel shirt, short cropped hair and his accent is what I hear on the bombcast so I'm pretty sure that was Brad.

I think he means community participation.

The Gamespot folks don't have the same charisma as the GB guys, but there is nothing wrong with having them around. All of them seem like genuine people, we're just not used to seeing them onscreen with the regular crew. It's the first episode of a new format, give them a break.

Nothing wrong with quality over quantity - but then you have not posted a blog alluding to yourself as John Connor, self titled leader of the resistance, where CBSi is Skynet.

You might be right but go back and check out Brad's earl;y GS video reviews. Awkward. Coming across naturally with a camera pointed at you takes practice and with limited live shows and not even a regular podcast these days - GS are not used to it. Some of them will have no talent for it but some should improve the more they do it.

Everyone is making a mountain out of a molehill over this. The Gamespot guys are fine. Maybe they skew slightly towards the informative side rather than the entertainment side, but that's perfectly fine for a show that focuses on showing off the latest releases. I think a lot of people went into the show thinking "Who are these people, what are they doing on Giant Bomb?" and then picked on every tiny little imperfection with the show in order to justify their preconceptions. I think anyone who went in with an open mind would have enjoyed the show.

Also, Jeff has spoken about how this thing was his idea, and he'd been working on it for a while. So blaming it on CBSi execs and whatnot is stupid. If you think it was a failure and horrible, blame Jeff.

Y'know a lot of people were throwing some real loud, real obnoxious fits about the lack of video content before the new site launched. Now that the site has launched we've seen a deluge of stuff on the site with 2 new weekly live shows, a buttload of QLs, return of random PC game not to mention a bunch of audio content. What's the reaction? Complain.

I think its cool that basically it's a series of rapid-fire QLs of all-new games. In-depth coverage of a few games is nice and reading a list of every new game for the week is also cool but I think the Wednesday show finds a happy medium between the two.

man they do one thing with gamespot and people become super fuckin paranoid, it's crazy.

even though I think chris waters and calvert were on TNT before

#24 Posted by mrfluke (5092 posts) -

the show was OK, the GB staff are smart dudes, i imagine they will be tweaking and tweaking and it'll be a great show with its own hook in time.

wayyyyyy tooo earllllyyy to be spouting its the end of days.

I thought it was dope so... Yeah

I really liked it. I think it's much nicer to introduce the GameSpot as like a secondary cast in one of GiantBomb's shows than if it was just all-GiantBomb all the time. I think once everyone is more comfortable with one-another this could be a kind of more specialist Happy Hour, a show with a bunch of dudes we as a community like but don't neccesarily see in standard content. And as a dedicated viewer of both TNT and UF, i've gotta say i'd be a little disappointed if all three shows had the exact same hosts.

Oh no, not people who write for a different video game website. How will we ever survive as a society?

There was a couple of double posts and then one bad post that was quoted & replied to a bunch of times. It's not uncommon for one bad post to get quoted a bunch of times, and then all the quotes of it have to be deleted too. It's not the bloodbath it seems.

That would be the codename the chat gave to Alexis' sister when she was on the 24 hour Halo marathon. Obviously that's not who he's referring to.

Nope. Wrong. Totally enjoyed it nice to see some new faces once in a while. They're not replacing anything it's added content so what's the problem.

Here's how the bombcrew previously handled new releases:

In the bombcast: "New releases for this week: insert one or two game titles here. That's it for new releases."

I remember some bombcasts where the new releases section was just 10 seconds in length, so this is a good avenue towards not only covering games coming out but also engaging the audience as well because there's nothing less engaging than reading a list the size of your pinkie finger.

#46 Posted by Akyho (1585 posts) -

I mostly didnt like the different schools of showcasing. We have GB just fuck around with a game E.G Ayesha Alchemy thing, while we have the Gamespot people going into their informative professional modes.

Id hope to see them break out of that a little more, I am not asking for GB emulation just to let themselves relax. Hope that happens in upcoming.

The dude that did the Mass Effect Dlc was the closest, yet he still went into full blown info dump mode like he is trained for his actual job.

More videos are good. More quality videos are better. GS people are so stiff sometimes. Talkin about games dude, relax.

I REALLY LIKED IT. TNT IS GETTING STALE NOW I THINK. SO GET RID OFF THAT AND HAVE THIS AND UNPROFESSIONAL FRIDAYS. FILLS I THE WEEK NICELY.

#49 Posted by Nightriff (4915 posts) -

I could get behind the idea of getting rid of TNT, haven't watched it in forever, they don't do anything fun anymore like Fortune Street, Cards Against Humanity, Dead Island or anything; usually just games that they have already covered in a boring QL that then turns into a boring TNT

#50 Posted by GunstarRed (5030 posts) -

Boringspot. Come on man, try harder than that.

I thought it was fun, it needs a little tightening up and only Chris seemed fully comfortable on camera. I listen to Gameplay and there's some fun people at Gamespot. I just think they need to be more comfortable on camera that will only come with time.

Also, some of the people in the chat fucking disgust me.
