New backdrops on pages?

Take a look at the Halo 3: ODST page. I would make a photo but it would be easier if you saw it for yourself. Is this a new style they are going for? I thought it was a different site for a second but it looks very cool; the game-theme design sort of shocks you, in this case especially with the blue backdrop. Nonetheless, is this on other pages with some investigation? I checked a few big titles like Borderlands and Brutal Legend and there is nothing there.  Still, it would be interesting to see if this is used more often now.

Hmmm, not sure about this one. But I know that on Whiskey's advertising page, they have an option for the "Homepage" skin. Which basically looks the same as that page.

That looks awesome.

It does look rather attractive, the general layout of the wiki page and forum topics posted on its board look brilliant that way.

They also brought the menu bar to the middle in a condensed area. Most likely to not block the picture on the side. So, new formatting is here as well. If this is advertising, which it probably is, then it looks like pretty attractive, non-intrusive advertising. Bravo, to the team upstairs.

I think it's an ad campaign. I just wish they'd do this for many more pages. Why not throw a hamburger background on the hamburger page, or a Bomb collage on Jeff's page?

I like it, better than I gigantic banner or something similar, its unobtrusive, only on the games page and it looks nice.

Isn't the point of an ad to advertise the game off to people who aren't aware of it (or hyped up for it)... not for people who are already actively searching for it? I'm surprised there's no link embedded, no release date, no stupid slogan on the background picture

it's an ad? It seems to be the ONLY ad I've EVER seen on this site... with adblock+
 
edit: refreshing with it turned off reveals two more actual ads.

I'm sure it's a part of the ad campaign along with the banners and boxes.  Looks really awesome.  There is a flaw, though, in that there isn't an button to go back to the Overview on each section of the game page for easy navigation.

It's an ad, or part of an ad package.

but it isn't blocked by adblock, and doesn't have any text. it feels more like a site feature than an ad. the banners and shit feel like ads.
