Poll: New Feature - Rorie and Brad Play Through Psychonauts Together. (342 votes)

Yay - (Love me some Psychonauts) 73%
Nay - (I work for Majesco) 11%
I just like to look at the pretty bars 17%

On the latest UPF Matt got reminded of Psychonauts and said he'd been thinking about playing it again recently, Brad exclaimed he'd never played it and Jeff hadn't played much of it. Huzzah, a new feature I thought.

What do you guys think? Let's put on our goggles and uncover a milkman conspiracy!

As long as Rorie is the one playing.

I still got to play it. Bought it on Steam a year ago and haven't touched it. Maybe the feature will get me to play it like Vinny's Dark Souls playthrough making me go back to Dark Souls.

And maybe when they're done (or during) as the Double Fine peeps are down the road and are cool with GB some of the folks could come over and talk about some of the development on it. Ala Alter Echo with Brad Muir and Ryan's face was made of glee.

Ha, I still love this moment, so awesome :)

That'd be really cool, but I doubt Rorie would have the time.

Only if they're allowed to use a gameshark for the last level/boss.

Seriously, Psychonauts is one of my favorite games of all time, but fuck that last level.

The most important distinction.

Once Psychonauts gets going around 2-3 levels in it's really amazing stuff, would be great to see the GB crew experience that for the first time.

Sure, because I will never play through that game but, I'd still like to see it. It's been sitting on the shelf for years.

Seeing as I'm playing through Psychonauts myself right now, I'd say the timing of this feature could not be better. If it comes to pass, that is...

If not, damn you for making me want that which I cannot have!

That would be pretty great if it happened.

... for the majority of the game. He then has to hand it off to Brad for the Meat Circus level. That way we can squeeze an extra 50 hours worth of video.

Hm, I dunno. I like Psychonauts, I've played though it three times (twice on PS2 and once on PC) but it's a little slow, and just not the type of game I personally would enjoy watching someone else play, at least not for the 15+ hours it would take to finish.

But if they need something to fill the void of Vinnyvania I could think of worse games to go with, and I'd probably watch it either way.

Give Brad the controller and I'll be down.

Kind of this? With the criticism I've been giving lately, I think I might have high standards as to what content I want to see.

Yup. More Rorie please.

Can somebody tell me what I missed? I bought the game last year and gave it a shot, but was pretty underwhelmed. It just kind of seemed like yet another kind of charming, but totally unremarkable action platformer from the early 2000's. I didn't finish it, or ever get too far, does it pick up?

Sure.

I've played Psychonauts like 4 times (twice on XBOX and twice on PC). That game is great.

Endurance run?, but if not this is still 100% up my alley because Psychonauts is amazing and I might get premium just to watch that.

Here's a better one. Rorie plays through neverwinter nights 2 + expansions. Watching Rorie play nwn2 on that supply drop stream was real interesting to me, made me wanna play some nwn2, and I did, but that game is fucking hard.

#26 Posted by bboymaestro (239 posts) -

I'm so down for this.

#27 Posted by Delsaber (198 posts) -

Go for it. I'm never ever ever going to finish this game myself.

#28 Posted by Eaxis (913 posts) -

I tried to watch Game Informers Psychonaut Super Replay but that ended up as the most boring one of them all. It's best when it's a more weird or obscure game. I would love for GB to have another game they play through , but not this one.

#29 Posted by Rowr (5554 posts) -

How in the hell have Jeff and Brad not played much if any of this?

This seems like something Brad at least should go back and play as it's the sort of game he would potentially enjoy (and also an absolute classic), I don't know if it's really Jeff's style of game necessarily.

And then when Carrie is one of the new hires she can be the overseer as this is her favourite game of all time.

It's all falling into place.

As fun as this would be I'd rather have a few Double Fine duders come in and watch the game being played. Give some insight into development and such.

Could be a good ongoing series with several parts with Tim Schafer sitting in on one if he had the time.

But Psychonauts has lots of collectables and has several puzzles. Watching Brad playing it would drive me in to fits of furious conniptions. D:

It's always interesting to me to hear people say this, because I got through the entire last level without dying or even taking a hit. The moments of frustration I remember are the matador level, and the castle level.

#36 Posted by TurboMan (7515 posts) -

@the_nubster: both of those levels are from not understanding how to proceed at first though, right? Matador level has some tough platforming stuff though.

it's been a long while since I've played it, but I think a lot of my frustration from the Matador level was from the awful camera angles always landing me right back in front of the bull.
