This. Getting to the forums takes a damn week. The sheer size of everything on the front page goes a bit against everything I was reading from Dave about design. I just hope they'll put it down a notch after a week or two.@thegoldencat7 said:

New Homepage Redesign
I'm also not a big fan of the font, I don't now if it's the way the browser or Windows renders Helvetica Neue but it looks absolutely awful in browsers. More and more sites seem to use it.
My problem with it is that it seems like everything is bold and a lot of the negative space fills up making the text more difficult to read, see screenshot.
The forum font size is also bigger and the sidebar while viewing forums...it just looks weird, reduce the spacing between items on the main page and reduce the font size and it'll be much improvedThis is the only complaint I also have. To size the forum font down to what I'm used to seeing, the rest of the site has to have font one size too small. I'm actually going to get used to this- but of all the stylistic choices that make so much sense, this is the only one that leaves me scratching my head. Not font choices, colors, or design- just the size relationship between forum text and everything else.
May wanna go post in this thread.
Edit: Though not specifically about the front page, may fit in that thread.
@sjoerdth: That's odd. Mine looks fine. Could be something on your end but who knows. This is mine on win7/chrome.Mine looks like that too, and i'm on a MacBook running Chrome.

Awesome new front page, absolutely love it! Especially the "coming up" schedule and the community section.
@thegoldencat7 said:I LOVE the new design overall, but I do agree that the font size overall seems one tick too big. When I Ctrl + - (or mouse wheel) one step down in Chrome, the size of everything feels a bit more comfortable and manageable to me. But that's mostly a personal preference and it's no big deal. In terms of the actual layout, I love it.Everything seeems a bit oversized. Its all up in my face and what-not.Totally agree. It needs to be dropped down a size or two.
Nice work, but...
The fact that the main promo item is static and not on a carousel is a bad design choice these days.
hmm? The main promo changes every time you click the current one. It displays whatever you have no viewed yet out of what they deemed capable of being pinned up there. (which was 9 items i think (from what i saw on the show yesterday))Nice work, but... The fact that the main promo item is static and not on a carousel is a bad design choice these days.
Edit: er you probably meant you want it to just change automatically as you sit there. Cycling through a few. nm
Yeah, if you're going to have that, it has to rotate.Nice work, but... The fact that the main promo item is static and not on a carousel is a bad design choice these days.
That said, the giant promo item at the top of the page has been one of my least favorite design choices ever since every other game website started doing that years ago. I understand why it's done, but I really don't like it. Also I'm on a rather large monitor, and having to scroll FOUR screens worth of page on 1920x1080 seems crazy to me. But I hate scrolling, so maybe I'm weird.
EDIT: And the second I post this, it all changed... Was it supposed to? If so, I like that better.
EDIT2: And it changed back... Yeah, not a fan of the giant video up top. Just wasted space, IMO.
I have Giant Bomb on my RSS feed, so having a huge banner on the front page for something I've already been informed of is a total waste. All the news stories are the same way. The useful items are the community contributions, site activity, and featured games. The page is pretty, but there is almost nothing useful in sight when you bring up the page. I have to page down 1 to 3 times to see what I want.
The upcoming calender is neat, but I have some issues with it. The items are not in chronological order. There is no indication that an item has already passed. And I don't actually want to know what news story is coming up. Videos and events I don't mind having posting times, but knowing an article I have interest in is coming and I can't read it now is annoying. With videos it doens't bug me because I always download them and watch them later. Often days or weeks.
All in all it feels like it was designed for a new user, not somebody familiar with the site. Which is cool, new users are essential. But I would like it if there was a page designed for useability I could access.
Goddamn that random video button is dangerous, I could see myself losing way too much time to just watching video after video. Great way to expose the wealth of content I haven't yet watched having only become a regular visitor in the last 12 months.I agree, totally dangerous. I went from today's quick look to the second episode of How to Build a Bomb in one click.
Extra feedback: Just because some others say the opposite I feel I should add that I really like the fonts and the spacing - certainly as far as the articles listing and forums go.
Some Feedback: Read the Hydrophobia Prophecy story and watched the video in full screen, when I returned to the article the video text overlapped with the article text.
Love the new redesign!!! Looks amazing! I have but one nitpick:
Below the main feature, the four featured stories thing (where you can scroll between 3 to 4 different sets of featured stories) I dont like how, when you hover your mouse over it, it takes away the picture and a white background comes up detailing what its about... for some reason I dont like it! Maybe if you could somehow have a tooltip come up and keep the picture on it, it would be nicer!
Or perhaps have yellow text come over the picture, when it switches to the blank white picture it really throws off the screen in my opinion.
I like it! I've looked at it trying to find bits that I'd change, and I've made a few sites for business in my time, and I can't really think of anything major. One suggestion, and I don't know if it's already been said, but the arrows and dots to scroll to the next set of articles could probably do with being below them, not the main headline, as it suggest that the large headline area will change, if you get what I'm saying. But yeah, I like it a lot.
As someone probably already noticed. I never really tried out the white theme even before the new design, until now but some elements are missing on reviews when you switch to white. I don't know if that was the redesign or what that caused it but on reviews if you are in the white theme the little cartoon pictures of the staffs reaction to the game next the 5 stars is missing.
