I'm a female gamer and have been gaming since I was about six. I'm actually thinking about making a funny video game review site. Any tips?

If you want to start reviewing games, my advice would be just to write some up and post them to your blog/on the forums here.

Hi and welcome!

my basic advice is to not overthink and just start doing it. It's very cheap and easy to start a blog, which can function as your site. If you want to you can even just use the giantbomb platform of blogs and reviews to test to see if you think you are going to want to really do this.

The more you'll do the better you'll get and you'll find out whether you like it enough to keep doing it (if you are doing it to get feedback/recognition from the peeps you probably won't last ass it's extremely hard to get noticed on your own out there).

Keep in mind it takes a good while to get good at any craft including video game reviews. For most people it can take ~10,000 hours or so to become really good at any craft, or so the latest thinking on the matter says.

In any event if you overthink what you are doing(like I tend to do) you may never get started. Accept it's not going to be perfect when you first get going and strive to have fun and get better with each review.

Other than that I'd consider picking a different name for your site. yes "funny game reviews" is what you are trying to do, but in my experience dealing with people they generally react negatively to being told how they are supposed to feel about something. Let other people call your site funny and give yourself some breathing room by having a more neutral name (especially if you aren't funny as you and your friends think you are at first). Your potential fans will more likely believe their friends telling them your site is funny, than you telling them your site is funny.

Giantbomb.com is a perfect example in my mind of this. Yes it's generally pretty darn amusing, but they don't feel the need to tell people their quicklooks are funny, they just let people see that they are.
