Who wants to lug this thing around to play simple MMOs on the go? Wouldn't it be smarter for a dev to release their MMO on iOS/Android where there are already millions of people with hardware that they carry around everywhere they go? If the more advanced controls are required it seems like selling a $15 bluetooth peripheral would make more sense.
Panasonic Reveals A New Portable Designed For MMOs On The Go
"...a show about a rich dude who does stupid stuff."
That is the perfect description of Fantasy Factory.
" Remember the Ngage? "Panasonic remembers the space taco, they mourned its loss more than anyone else here it seems.
Another way for MMOs to continue being the life suck that they are. It will bomb but only because most people who buy this don't leave the house. Though it would be great for the bathroom!
" The device's official website says more information is to come about the buttons specifically is coming in the near future."
Okay. I'm finally joining the clan of those who can't stand reading news posted by Brad Nicholson. Get a copy editor, make sure you turn off your touchpad while typing on your laptop, SOMETHING.
Problem One: MMO's are as about as far away from "on the go" as you can get in terms of play style.
Problem Two: The hardware is ugly as sin.
Problem Three: Laptops are kind of already a thing
Problem Four: That video short was really, really bad.
They have a great idea, but how they're implementing it is all wrong. Touch keys won't work at all and also, they need to support a more popular MMO instead of something that is browser based. Something like Guild Wars or World of Warcraft. Though I could be expecting too much with those games. Maybe if EA wants subscribers for Lord of the Rings or Warhammer, then they should totally support this device.
If that thing can run an MMO for 2 hours without dieing, I'll be impressed.
I suppose its kind of neat if you wanted to talk to your friends in-game or something, but if you are actually trying to play the mmo you will be sitting down somewhere for an hour at least, and at that point you might as well just have a laptop or go home.
HOWEVER, if this can double as a phone that works only when you hold it to the side of your head, Count me in.
Good luck seeing the tiny icons on whatever game it is you play saying what button you have assigned for each spell/ability.
Anyway, it's nice to see a company try something new.
People who play MMOs generally don't want to venture outdoors. Not sure why they would release this console.
Holy fuck, Panasonic is full of retards. Who would buy that? It's too big to a portable system and if someone really wanted to play MMO's on the go, they'd probably use a laptop. Just give it up, Panasonic.
Where would I take it? I'd have to go out of my way to find a wifi spot, and then stay there to play the game. It seems cool for those who live in an area where they're always online. An MMO would be a hell of a portable game because they're so addicting even if you jump in for 10 minutes, and you don't need a mouse.
I think this will probably just end up being another handheld oddity that people keep in a closet but remember sometimes and show to their friends.
"Oh, that is...weird. What is it?"
"The Jungle! It let you play MMOs anywhere you were! Like, I don't know, the jungle. You could be a jungler."
"Really? Like WoW and Old Republic and any of the other latest jams?"
"Well, not really. Think more browser based games like the Battle Star Galactica MMO."
"The what?"
But who knows? Maybe it will be the best thing ever. (I doubt it.)
Maybe a tad too much of a specific target market? But hey I am sure their analysts have crunched the number right?
