I don't like RTS, but I think Über are geniuses. Super Monday Night Combat is one of the year's best games.

That isn't gameplay though, right?

It isn't. I'm going to wait until they show something from the game.

#5 Posted by Spoonman671 (4640 posts) -

I'm starting to dislike kickstarter and how misused it's gotten.  Looks cool though.

#6 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5144 posts) -

It's only a trailer they didn't even start working on the game.

The joke about dubstep is legendary, I mean nobody in their right mind could choose something as dumbstep over some epic classical music if the second fits, right?

Who could do something so stupid? Oh wait...

Looked interesting enough for me to pitch in a few days ago. Don't really care that what they showed was rendered video of how the game might look like. I just want to smash planets into other planets.

#9 Posted by ajamafalous (11996 posts) -

Fun fact: the guy who does the narration also voices the Sniper in TF2 (as well as a handfull of Dota 2 heroes).

Exactly, I just want unadulterated PLANET-ON-PLANET MAYHEM!

FUCK YES!

#12 Posted by dox (110 posts) -

Yea time to destroy some planets! I mean, what have they ever done for me?

#13 Posted by MordeaniisChaos (5730 posts) -

I'mma put $100 into this after PAX, me thinks. Maybe by then they'll have more concrete stuff? Not sure if they've really started much work on it or not, but I need to pitch in on at least one Kickstarter that looks cool before the whole house burns down.

#14 Posted by Jimbo (9813 posts) -

What they're showing there looks like a nightmare to actually play. Love the visual style in the trailer though.

#15 Posted by captain_max707 (490 posts) -

I can see a lot of Supreme Commander in there, lots of units and buildings that are nearly identical.

We'll see if it can live up to that, as Supreme Commander is fantastic.

That guy at 3:26 has a Giant Bomb page open, FUND THIS GAME.

Also that old guy took his shirt off.

I'd watched this without reading who was developing it, and for the first half of the video I was just thinking, "What a blatant SupCom ripoff," -- then they zoomed into space and shit got real. I don't love the art style, but I do love the concept. I'd gladly pay for it, even if it were just Supcom in Spaaaaaace! -- but I have faith they'll deliver more than that.

I have ensured that this thread has been thoroughly sherlock holmes'd, and while I have concluded that it was not posted by a spambot, it is nonetheless spam.

I hope these guys get the money they need at that this game turns out well.

The new Nolan North!

I also love SMNC and its design so I'm in. It does seem like almost every PC dev has done a Kickstarter now, but wow they are at 50% within something like 24 hours.

Feeling the same way. That being said, Monday Night Combat was an amazingly fun game and I really like Uber so I support this. One of the guys on the dev team had a decent presence on the Shacknews forums and would answer questions and talk to us about stuff so that was cool.

#23 Posted by wastedcolumbo (68 posts) -

Anyone else notice the duder in the video who has Giantbomb open on his second monitor?

#24 Posted by Shirogane (3574 posts) -

@wastedcolumbo: Wow, nice catch. That's pretty funny. Wait, that's not you is it?

I don't see were this goes against the fundamentals that Kickstarter has laid down.

  1. What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects.

    We believe that:

    • A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.

    • A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.

Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.

  2. Who can fund their project on Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is focused on creative projects. We're a great way for artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, writers, illustrators, explorers, curators, performers, and others to bring their projects, events, and dreams to life.

The word “project” is just as important as “creative” in defining what works on Kickstarter. A project is something finite with a clear beginning and end. Someone can be held accountable to the framework of a project — a project was either completed or it wasn’t — and there are definable expectations that everyone can agree to. This is imperative for every Kickstarter project.

We know there are a lot of great projects that fall outside of our scope, but Kickstarter is not a place for soliciting donations to causes, charity projects, or general business expenses. Learn more about our project guidelines.

This is a creative project that the chances of it coming to light under traditional circumstances is slim to none. Or gets changed so vast from the original idea the creativity is lost.

This video underneath was done before the major Kick-starter explosion. It mostly talks about music, however its perfectly applicable to the games industry. Aswell as the Co-founder directly says "Kick starters going to become Mainstream in a year or two" "This is going to be one of the ways you get things done. If not the BEST way to get things done."

This is not against the heart of Kickstarter. Kickstarter is the same as it was its just bigger.

Currently there is a kickstarter for a plushie spider that is synonymous with the super hero web comic Spinnerette.

Is that against the heart of Kickstarter? People want it, people are willing to pay money for it. They know whats involved. Kickstarter provides the means.

I don't like MNC or any of its variants, and thus don't have the greatest opinion of Uber, but I have a permanent boner for anything related to Total Annihilation. I dunno how I feel about this, honestly

How do you feel about Planet-on-Planet Mayhem?

#28 Posted by BabyChooChoo (4515 posts) -

Super MNC left me a little bit sour about all things Uber. This looks cool, definitely, but I think I don't think I can back this and feel confident...

Good luck to 'em though. 2/3 on the way to making their goal and it would kinda suck to get so close and not hit the target.

#29 Posted by wastedcolumbo (68 posts) -

@Shirogane:

Nah, just noticed it and thought that this would be the right place to post about it.

I am kinda chuffed that I was one of the 5000 people lucky enough to get the $15 early bird tier though.

New? He's been in everything for a long time. Nolan North is the new him, if anything.

I'm in for $20. If nothing else, it's worth the price of admission to smash an asteroid into a planet.

F'ing right it does.

I'm willing to throw a little money at anyone making original RTS games.

So yeh this looks sweet, nice reminder of what could be happening if money and talent were still being thrown at RTS games like they once were. Projects like this are why kickstarter is fucking awesome.

Awesome and congratulations on getting funded! I really hope you guys make the stretch goal for Naval units, Supreme Commander has some of my favourite marine units in any RTS, especially those Cybran destroyers that can walk on land.

#39 Posted by MrKlorox (11209 posts) -

I'm not into base-builder RTS games, but I have to say this one looks pretty nice. Glad it's getting funded at least.

#40 Posted by dox (110 posts) -

@wastedcolumbo: Thanks duder. Naval is in the bag and now it is on to orbital!

#41 Posted by Dylabaloo (1549 posts) -
@dox: Best of luck with this!  I understand it's in the very very early stages but what would be the estimated rough guess release window for this game?

Call me when you reach the Metal worlds stretch, then you'll truly hit that TA feeling :D

#43 Posted by kindgineer (2725 posts) -

I wouldn't say "ever," but it definitely looks like a lot of fun. Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander were great games. This game looks to improve on those.

What exactly is wrong with the art style? Instead of just shouting like a blubbering idiot, maybe say why you think it is so fucking dumb.

Enjoyment of an art style is subjective. To my eyes it looks good, so yes, I guess I need your eyes to see why it sucks. Which is why I asked you to elaborate as to why it is bad, and what exactly you think it should look like, but I guess that is to much for you.
