Browsed the staff twitter feed as I sometimes do, and there are some vitriolic reactions to this new thing called Player vs Pain, a new series on MachinimaPrime where people get physically tortured while playing video games. Apparently, the second episode was just released on Youtube and then swiftly closed to private viewing. That's probably a good thing because after reading the storm of related tweets I do not want to know what's in those videos. If anyone here is unfortunate enough to have viewed these videos, I want to know your thoughts.

I saw the tweets and also found the video to be private. I wanted to see just how bad it was.

Episode one, "Atomic Wedgies vs. Mario Kart", is still around, and it makes G4 look like Gamasutra. Episode two was apparently called "Shocks, Spanks, and Sexy Girls" and got slammed for being even more bro-ish, featuring women getting spanked while losing at video games. I think that kind of speaks for itself, eugh.

Yeah it was pretty awful. I wasn't offended by it or anything like that but I can see why people got as riled up as they did. Incredibly tone deaf considering how things have been lately in the game industry. Even aside from the issues involved purely as a piece of content it was just super lame.

They hooked shock pads up to two pretty ladies and shocked them while they played rock band while another girl spanked them. I didn't make it all the way through but apparently they showed off their butts at the end. Super dumb.

Could have easily been on a TV in the background of the new Dredd movie or something, shameful shit to say the least.

#6 Posted by Dagbiker (6978 posts) -

Great, so I can watch dudes play mario cart and playing with each others underwear but this Mechanized asshole put this video of these sexy girls spanking into his private collection.

But no, I did not see it. The only youtube videos I watch are Ijusten, Tobuscus, and Olga Kay ( shes pretty funny )

#7 Posted by Winternet (8088 posts) -

When I saw it, I thought about making a thread about it but then didn't because I didn't wanted to do the slightest publicity about it. But, now that there's one I can say my piece: it's terrible. It's god awful. The only "positive" thing is the two girls showing their butt by the end, because you know, it's two sexy women showing their ass. Apart from that, it's so so bad.

#8 Edited by GorillaMoPena (2519 posts) -

Here is the video in question. Includes the phrase the "butt hurt is applicable here" and there are also butts. It is worse than you can possible imagine.

I didn't even get to the part in the video where anyone was getting spanked and it was ridiculously tacky. It amazes me that there's an audience for stuff that obnoxious big enough to spend that kind of money on it.

edit: I did like that they censor the foul language. You wouldn't want a kid to watch that and have to listen to that sort of thing. It's good that they're conscious of the audience and keeping it classy.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?

#13 Posted by Elwoodan (895 posts) -

Dude you know what this industry needs? some SEXXXY BITCHEXXXS gettin' SPANKXXXED.

I'd assume that was the pitch meeting.

#14 Edited by MeganeAgain (123 posts) -

Huh. So, I guess this is the sort of thing content producers think gamers enjoy.

#15 Posted by Icicle7x3 (1216 posts) -

I hate all video games.

#16 Edited by Datajack (139 posts) -

Its video content Machinima ordered for one of their channels by Super Creative productions founded by Kevin Pereira. You know, same guy that created and produced the popular Attack of the Show on now dead G4. So yes, there IS an audience for it. I believe its on the same path of the Dude Manrod schtick. Ehhh theres been much worse on the internet. It's general youtube fare, not exactly talking CNN here. Check your expectations.

I like how in that video that lady looks like she's talking to herself.

This is....fucking shit.

Good God, that was fucking embarrassing; I thought stupid EXXXXXTREMMMMMMME sorta shows like that all but died out after the 90s. Also: ''By the way Crissy's pain yelps will be available to download after the show''. What in the shit?!

#20 Edited by WasabiCurry (425 posts) -

I am happy that it got flamed hard as it did. I saw it popped up in my twitter feed, but didn't get the chance to see it.

Yeah, fuck that video and fuck Machinima.

It reminds me of the worst stuff on G4. Fucking terrible.

I can't get off unless I'm watching a video of 2 girls getting shocked and spanked by a woman with "Fist" in her name while playing with plastic guitars, as underwear is thrown into their faces and a disembowled, deep, bro voice makes wise cracks over the top.

It's a more common fetish than you guys might think, I'm glad our charity's cause has finally been noticed and we are no longer treated as the disgusting minority we once were. As far as I'm concerned these feminist's rights end where my PvP fetish begins.

#24 Posted by alternate (2723 posts) -

Pretty dumb and tacky but not what I would consider particularly offensive - but then I am not a woman.

#25 Posted by Pr1mus (3998 posts) -

Sounds like some quality entertainment. I should investigate.

#26 Posted by bitchypixels (71 posts) -

The most horrible thing on the internet. I can't even believe this was even thought out enough to be pitched let alone produced, filmed, edited, and posted. Christ

When the YouTube comments almost exclusively say "This is fucking terrible and gross and immature as hell" or something along those lines, your video has no right to exist.

#28 Edited by Dallas_Raines (2221 posts) -

What do you expect from some G4 fucker. I'm constantly surprised by the amount of respect Kevin Pereria somehow garners, considering Attack of The Show was a constant stream of pandering bullshit aimed at the lowest forms of humanity.

To be honest RT has been a bit "late to the party" with this.

C'mon now, "the most"? Need to start surfing that big ol' World Wide Web a bit more. I'll get ya started, search term: "Yuri Amputee". :-D

@datajack: RTs game show thing was really lame but not even in the same ball park as this.

This sounds like something out of some z-grade 80's dystopic science fiction movie. Do they play Smash TV? And get tazered in the balls whenever they die?

Because I'd totally watch that.

Perfect reaction to this thread and the show!

Although, while that linked 5 minute segment is very trashy and quite awkward to watch (mostly because of the silly over-acted personas) I don't find it worse than other shows of its ilk or particularly offensive or shocking. Just your random vaguely "soft-pornographic" youtube nonsense. Certainly not crass, hot or that disturbing when compared to actually fetishistic internet content. Good, grounding, exploitative contrast to the recent overreaction to presumed sexism though - I'm glad I was made aware of that stupid little show.

#36 Edited by Nickieroonie (135 posts) -

It's hard to believe that this video was consciously created by human beings.

edit: Video Games (nsfw sorta - there is a butt)

#37 Posted by Optix12 (629 posts) -

Its not just the private video, it seems like that whole youtube series is going to be awful. Im glad I never touched ground on G4tv (except for code monkeys, i found that oddly stupidly funny).
On a slightly offtopic it reminded me of Arin Hanson (Game Grumps and Egoraptor dude) pretty much completely making fun of The Tester the whole first episode

THIS is how a lot of people still see gamers/gamer "culture."

It's why people get really mad at things like sexy dancers being brought in to the IGDA party at GDC. The industry has such a terrible reputation when it comes to anything involving women (justified or not) that we don't need that kind of shit making things worse than they already are.

I just realized that this show would totally exist in the fiction of Idiocracy. Way to go, Machinima.
