Hey so in Japan role playing games are popular, and in us shooting games are popular. So what genre is popular in Europe?

Cricket, I guess.

Tea and biscuits?

Racing sims? Football games? Call of Duty is very popular in the UK, I know that. Fifa as well.

If you're specifically interested in genres that are popular in Europe but not so much elsewhere, I guess it would be simulators? Football Manager is the really obvious one, but most every type of sim seems to be developed there except maybe the flight sims.

Farming Simulators, apparently.

From what I see racing and soccer games. Although there are a lot of fans of all popular genres like fps and tps.

Aldo's Adventure. Other games might as well not even exist over there. It's all about Aldo.

FIFA and CoD/Battlefield in the UK.

I'm assuming they just drink tea and play Football Manager (...because someone is apparently playing it).

Europe is more than one country, just so you know. The tastes of the UK fall more toward that of the US with maybe a bit more love for sports games like FFIFA or that manager game while the mainlands tastes are vastly different. Northern Europe has a well known and passionate FPS community and Russians love their hardcore military sims and weird ass games like STALKER. Germany does have a thing for farming sims but racing games are also up there.

Fifa, they're crazy about soccer

There's a lot of PC gamers in Sweden. Starcraft 2, DOTA 2, WoW, CS are popular. FPS and RTS games in general. I think this applies to most of Scandinavia.

This is accurate on many levels. It's outright silly to look at "Europe" as one unanimous place.
It's like saying "Asia likes weird RPGs", when it's more accurate to pinpoint it to "Japan likes weird RPGs"

I assume all Europeans play are the Farming Simulator and Football Manager games (who else is buying enough of those games in order to make sequels every year?)

Actually that is not correct anymore. There was some recent news that Action games actually beat shooter games in 2012 in terms of sales and populariy^^

http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/07/15/shooters-outsold-by-action-games-in-the-united-states-last-year/

To note an issue with that graph - "action game" is a term that can cover anything from Vanquish to Ocarina of Time. Naturally, a vastly more inclusive genre will have a higher percentage sold than one that requires certain concrete things (a first person perspective from which things are shot).

being the ambassador of Europe, i can confirm that truck and farming simulators are favorite pastimes for 100% of the people here.

Porn management sims.

How many of those are there? The only ones I know of are from the late 90's or early 00's, like Lula Wet Empire and that The Sims ripoff about managing the Playboy house.

That wasn't a serious answer. I didn't even know that was a genre.

The only thing I know about popularity is that it leads to intimacy.

No for real, Europe loves their porn management sims. You should see some of the tournaments they have for them. They get intense.

I know simulation games are much more popular here than on the other continents.

Other than that, a majority of strategy game have quite a lot of player from Europe and also the best/most-active player-base is generally found in Europe, the same goes for mmo's. I'm not sure if the % of people playing those is actually higher than America but the % of "dedicated" player is higher.

European guild in wow held around 80-90% of the world firsts and most for most strategy games ranging from AoE to Warcraft and Starcraft the best and most active players next to Koreans were Europeans.

Nowadays LoL and Dota are pretty popular as well and I believe he best teams are ether European or Chinese tho I never followed that "scene" so don't take my word for it.
