I love puzzles, I love humor, and I love....
Well, I love portals. What I don't love, is Half Life. I also am not at all interested in Team Fortress. Whether or not the price for the Orange Box is low or a generally great deal, I do not want to pay a price for a package of games where only one of them I'm interested in.
I heard some time ago that the Orange Box games had been split up but I thought that this was only on the PC. Does anyone know if this option is available on the Xbox 360?
I feel ashamed for not having played Portal and it is something I've really wanted to get around to.
Help's always appreciated.
Portal without the Orange Box?
"You should feel ashamed for not wanting the rest of The Orange Box."
No, I shouldn't.
Good news my friend!
Portal will be coming to XBLA soon.Just Portal (Not Orange Box
Don't no when thlough.
Oh and theres some new levels as well...I think!
Portal: Still Alive, the Portal game coming to XBLA, is basically the Portal found in The Orange Box with Portal: Flash Edition slapped on. I suggest you get that.

No the Portal coming to XBLA is not the Portal in the Orange Box and there isn't even a story involved. It is just several new levels to toy around with.
I am looking into actually getting the real game. I will buy the Orange Box if I have to but I really would prefer not to do so.
Portal costs $20 on Steam, and you can get the OB on Amazon for $30. In my opinion, Portal is not worth $20 as a standalone game, seeing as you can run through it your first time in 2 hours. Get the OB, that way you can at least try to like Half-Life 2 and the episodes.

I understand that, but I am just wondering if it is true that you can buy a standalone copy of Portal for the 360. This is what I would want to do, if I can't do this then I might not play the game. On principle, I don't want to spend money for a package of games; the majority of which I do not want to play.
I know I'm sounding a bit ridiculous, but I simply want to know if a copy of Portal (standalone) is available. Period.
Aight, forget about it then. I base a lot of my decisions, almost all of them on principle. This is one of them.
"You should feel ashamed for not wanting the rest of The Orange Box."I am sure I would have bought Portal evetually but I am not sure I would have gotten as into it as I did without Orange Box being that I bought Orange Box mostly for Episode 2 and a little for Team Fortress.
"I honestly have no idea how you can enjoy Portal and not the rest of it
Portal was arguably the weakest part of the Orange Box for me"
To each his own, many people would disagree with you.
Basically to answer your question, at this point in time Portal is unavailable as a standalone game on the Xbox 360. It is however, available as a standalone on the PC, via Steam. Right now the only way you can play Portal on your Xbox is by getting the Orange Box. This looks to be changing in the near future though if you want to wait (Portal Still Alive, already mentioned in thread).

I guess, but Still Alive isn't Portal + new maps. It is just a few new maps without a story.
"Portal Still Alive IS Portal +new maps. IT was in GI I think..."
I've looked at the Portal page on this site and it said the opposite, I also remember a podcast (either GB or GS) where it was said that Still Alive is not Portal + new maps.

From Joystiq- "Yup, confirmed. Microsoft has announced that Portal: Still Alive will come to XBLA this fall -- the release will feature new levels and achievements in addition to the original content. No lie, cake or otherwise."
From Kotaku- " It will feature single player and a new challenge mode"
There is not a standalone copy of portal for the 360. There is Still Alive which might contain the original story. I still am not 100% sure.
You will have to get the Orange Box to play Portal.
"No, you don't have to own Portal to play Still Alive. That much I am sure of."No, thats not what I was saying.
For 360 and PS3 users, Portal is only available as a part of The Orange Box.
So for right now you'll have to just buy the Orange Box, and ignore the other 4 games.
