PS3 finally hacked

  If no one knows who this guy is he made the ipod touch/iphone hack called black rain which is most known and easiest jail break for it

I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days ... that's a pretty secure system

Now the cheapasses have another system to run wild on.

Third time we have had this topic. Second time was by me with a dashhacks reference. First time was be some guy with a regadget(?) reference, and now it's you, with a Kotaku reference. Maybe we are all the same person.

He has "opened" up the PS3 to perform on.  There are just some steps left to fully hack the PS3.

PS3 was hacked since the early days. In fact, there are some .iso running around, for early games. In fact, it was just an internal modding of soft, like in the PSP, and it let you run the "images" from the HDD. The only problem was that it always crashed after the "Press Start" screen.

Im tired of idiots using homebrew as an excuse to cover up that they are pirates. Even if they aren't actually pirates, what is the point of homebrew when you obviously have a pc.

Pretty cool; but in the end its going to cause a lot of harm. Besides that, why not just get a decent computer to run your shit on than hack a PS3?

To take off restrictions in a console.  Example is Xbox Media Center for the Xbox.  Sure you can use a PC for that but it's more convenient. "

1) Piracy was rampant on PS2 and it was a far more succesful system than 3 is.

2) Homebrew does a lot more than piracy, if it doesn't interest you okay, but don't pretend you know enough to judge it like that.

I like how anyone thats against homebrew instantly doesn't know enough about it to have an opinion.

As for knowing people against it don't know enough about it, eh, you said it yourself. People into it should get out more. I imagine you're implying you're so much more awesome that you go out and thus, aren't into it, therefor you don't know enough about it, yet judge it like that.

But no, going out and being into homebrew are activities unrelated to each other. You know, like others would say they have a life so don't go on gaming forums. 3rd grade type insults like that. That's what you're doing here, for something you happen to not be into, unlike gaming forums.

1) most people saying they're into homebrew simply use things people smarter than them created and 2) it's a hobby and learning process for those who do create. If you don't program and engineer shit, how will you ever learn how to do those things and later get a related job if you want?

 This dude (geohot) was a freshman at my school when I was a freshman. From what I've heard, he's a total dick and really enjoying the media attention. I don't know if he started that way or if all the iPhone attention went to his head.
 
Regardless, I'm sure I won't make use of it, so I'm pretty indifferent.

PS3 is pretty good value, e.g. Blu-ray and high-end console. The amount of time spent doing this, why not just buy one!

anyone want to dl a 25gb iso? Yeah I didn't think so. 
Don't mention that the cheapest blu-ray burner is still almost 200bucks. 
Not worth any of it. Maybe in a few years when the ps4 is out and I want to go play some ninch import games to try out, even then, eh....

I am extremely interested because now I can finally use my PS3.

I would understand someone hacking a game system to have fun with it and explore the innards, but for someone to hack the system so they can pirate media?  WTF come on people.  It's just plain stupid.
