PS3 Modchip-Seriously?

This doesn't mean that I'm getting a Modchip, WHICH ARE ILLEGAL (I THINK), I'm just interested as to what these things do, how it will help, if you are getting one (WHICH IS ILLEGAL), and if its really worth it.

I don't think a modchip is inherentaly illegal it's what you do with it.

I didn't even know the PS3 needed to be chipped, I thought you just installed a linux based OS and voila! Free games.

They violate the DMCA in the US. Enough said.

It's a placebo, you can't do a thing with them.
 
If you want to get around the Hypervisor restricting access to the RSX from Linux, you need a 1.00 firmware system. Beyond that, I don't think they have found a way around it.
 
Also, most early third party games can be burnt to a DVD and they'll run fine without any modding. Just saying.

There is no point, Blu Ray back ups are non-existent cause the discs really hard to scratch and  illegal copies were patched out in firmware 1.40. 
Oh and Linux does not have access to the GPU so playing anything other than Peggle will be struggle.

i believe they can play illegally downloaded games. they are not illegal to buy they are illegal of how they are used. i have to say don't buy one of those, they are a waist of money.

Next thing you know, the online system will cost you money.
