Question to the younger Generation.

#1 Posted by ZenGaijin (113 posts) - 6 months, 10 days ago

I'm 28 and recently I been think that I have just now hit the moment when I think I am old. Mainly because all i do is listen to music and watch TV from when i grew up. It like how your parents always claim things were better back in the day. This all started with me suddenly remembering MTV's Downtown a failed animated show from the 90's that i was really into. I was watching and just wondered why MTV now sucks so hard but after some time i began to question does MTV actually suck or am I just stuck in the past.

For Reference btw. So, am i getting old or are things really as crappy as I see them to be?

You're still in the same generation as everyone younger than you.

You're not even 30.

do you think that all the kids these days think that everything they are doing at any given time is the most important thing that anyone has ever done at any time? if the answer is 'yes', you are old and correct. if the answer is 'no', you are part of the problem.

I'm 17. MTV is shit now, so you're not wrong. Stay cool. BTW, you're young.

@CaptStickybeard: I dunno man, i see myself becoming my parents more and more everyday. Which i used to think was a horrible thing but now it's not as bad. Oh, interesting side note Downtown features Goat who is later in Megas XLR. The creators say that Downtown, Megas & Motorcity all take place in the same universe. For Motorcity i think it takes place WAYYYYYYYYYY in the future.

MTV has sucked since they canned Super Adventures of the Super Adventure Team.

I'm turning 40 in a week...and still a gamer...you are definitely not old...

Granted I can't pull gaming marathons all night like I used to...ya know kids, career etc...but you're only as old as you let yourself be

To answer your question now though, yeah a lot of current programming and entertainment for that matter is rehashed crap...great now I sound like old man Jenkins :)

Yep you're old. You should put yourself in a retirement home to save us all the trouble.

I turned 26 last September and I have felt old for a few years now. It hits me the most when I'm at work and the people around me that I think are the same age say they are like 5-6 years younger then me. It's weird as it's the first time in my life when I'm around people that are not obviously younger then me due to their physical appearance.

Honestly though, age is just a number to me and I never think of it. I have known tons of kids that act more like adults then adults do and vice versa.

I don't really understand where you're coming from by saying you're old. Kids my age (20 years old) do the same thing and talk about how shows they watched as kids were so great, which is silly considering how young we are. But, yes, MTV has sucked for a while.

I think that everything from when I was a kid was terrible, except for a small selection of games and movies that I have mostly discovered after the fact. So...I don't know what that means.

TV isn't a good object of comparison, too many variables. Try comparing things that haven't changed much except in style like cars, clothing, and hairstyles.

Go watch that episode of South Park, You're Getting Old. It's really good, oh wait, no it's not, it's shit. EVERYTHING IS SHIT!

I'm 12 and what is this

Seriously tho I'm 32, and MTV isn't even Music Television anymore. Don't think it has anything to do with getting older other than that you witnessed first hand a time where MTV did what it says on the box.

I just hit 27, and for a second I felt old til I realized I should be in my prime. So now I feel awesome instead.

At least until I see celebrities born in the late 90's, that freaks me the hell out.

MTV has sucked since probably 1998. And most popular music has ALWAYS SUCKED. We just think the older stuff is better because the cream rises while the shit vanishes. Hear much Candlebox lately?

ETA: Just to further emphasize my "music is always shit" view, here are the top 10 songs of 1992, which is generally considered a watershed year in music.

1Boyz II MenEnd Of The Road
2Sir Mix A-lotBaby Got Back
3Kris KrossJump
4Vanessa WilliamsSave The Best For Last
5TLCBaby-Baby-Baby
6Eric ClaptonTears In Heaven
7En VogueMy Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)
8Red Hot Chili PeppersUnder The Bridge
9Color Me BaddAll 4 Love
10Jon SecadaJust Another Day

Beavis & Butt-Head came back last year and had a surpisingly awesome season. Mike Judge still knows those two guys well. They may be a little too clever during the video moments now, but they're still classic B&B in the episodes.
