Ran out of money? *possible spoilers

You have to mine planets with probes. Believe me it's a very stupid part of the game, and the ship upgrades only matter in what amounts to a cutscene.

I never had enough money to buy all the upgrades either, didn't bother me since the purchasable upgrades don't determine success or failure.

Guess you're better of just buying the upgrades you'll be using (say no Tech specialist so ditch the 5/5 purchase?).

" I'm at the point in the game where I have to go to find the Reaper IFF transponder. Up to this point, I've finished all of the loyalty missions for my crew (except for legion, whom I haven't met yet) and I've visist every planet and done every side mission. At this point, I don't have enough cash to buy all of the upgrades (I'm missing a couple of the expensive ones on Illium). I've gotten all of the shop discounts before purchasing anything as well. Most of my research is 4/5 for all of the weapons. I'm wondering if I'll have time/money after the IFF transponder mission to get those upgrades and whether or not that will affect whether or not I can save my crew during the final mission. "
