Searched and didn't find any similar forum topic, so hopefully this isn't a repeat. By now I'm sure most of you have been devouring the Game of the Year content that the site has put up. I specifically want to dwell on the Daily Recap videos where the crew satirize various TV shows.

Personally I'm loving this content so much, it could so easily come off as cheesy but they struck an amazing balance between hamming it up and some actual good acting bits. I really could tell that a ton of time had been invested in producing these bits.

What do you guys think? Have you been enjoying (and rewatching) these videos for these scenes or have they been less endearing for you?

Just as fun as last years.
I'm just glad to see other people finally realize why one week every year is very very slow when it comes to content.

It's like all the desperate cries for attention and annoying whines suddenly stopped when people opened their eyes and saw what was being created that week and people went "oh, well I feel like a complete failure now"
At least, that's what I hope they're thinking.

I had to watch the Brad Recap-thing a few times because it was actually really good.
At least compared to "The Workplace".

Now all I can do is sit down and wait for the rest of the shenanigans

Don't get me wrong, I love this year's content, but I can't really say it beats last year's early 90's FMV-style stuff. Last year was so fucking awesome.

More than anything with this year I'm really impressed with Vinny & Drew totally nailing the style of the source material.

Dunno, strikes me as a little bit try hard. I thought The Office parody was good, the "real" discussion segments are more interesting than any of the comedy which as I say, struck me as a bit try hard so far. (especially those annoying "your subscription is ending soon/has ended" emails)

I just hope they ended up using the 80's sitcom intro that someone posted on the forums. I want that show to exist.

#7 Posted by Demoskinos (8936 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Its by far some of the best stuff they have ever done I think. Jeff as "The Rap Man" had me laughing out loud. Also already miss Brad's beard. =O

The Office thing was amazing- really shows you how good Drew and Vinny are. It looks and feels like the actual show. The acting is pretty meh, but what can you expect?

The 60 minutes one was trying a bit too hard though. Jeff was great, as always, though.

Someone please make a hunk pipe t-shirt. I'd so buy that!

Hands down the best GOTY stuff from Giant Bomb, ever. Can't wait to see the last couple of days. Something that strikes me as a little odd, is that the recap videos are posted before the personal top tens, so you know what their number one game is before the list is even live.

Stupendous. Though it's disappointing if we don't ever see Vinny or Drew on camera.

Yeah, this video nailed it perfectly and everyone should see it.

I don't hate it, it's dumb fun, just a bit too dumb and zany (for me) in places.

I didn't really like the Office parody, but that could be because I've never watched the Office, but I absolutely thought the 60 Minutes one was fantastic. So...

The Workplace was pretty fantastic.

I did not care about anything in the Day 2 recap video other than Rap Man.

#20 Posted by GorillaMoPena (719 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

There better be a Price is Right day.

#21 Posted by GuyWithGlasses (23 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Fantastic as usual. Only wish there was more vinny :(

#22 Posted by BaneFireLord (2264 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Special Report was far better then The Workplace, but both are markedly less entertaining than Sombrero Ryan from last year.

#23 Posted by natetodamax (18926 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

It's some of the best video content they've done for the site. I love everything about it so far.

#24 Posted by thebipsnbeeps (479 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I'm genuinely endeared by Brad's 60 Minute reporter character. No surprises, though: it's fantastic stuff. These guys have some of the greatest personalities in video game websites.

#25 Posted by VoshiNova (1262 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Man I don't know, ever since I've been hunkin' shits been all fucked up.

Vinny is the architect. His warm loving presence is baked into every frame. :)

Mostly I just can't wait for the inevitable police procedural day.

...there will be a police procedural, right?

#28 Posted by Zeik (652 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Not to sound like I'm hating on anything, but I really can't comprehend how anyone can say the 60 minutes spoof was too "try-hard" but then give Jeff's performance a pass. There's no way Rap Man was less "try-hard" than the rest of it.

But anyway, I've enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest.

Anything that has Jeff rapping and going "street" is basically the best thing ever.

#31 Posted by masternater27 (872 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I loved the 60 minutes one. And the production on the workplace was spot on. Exited to see the rest!

#32 Posted by Cathryn (444 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I'm loving it so far. Totally excited for what's coming over the next couple days.

#33 Posted by Iodine (336 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Rap Man is for the children

#34 Posted by C2C (784 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I'm not feeling "The Workplace," but the 60 minutes bit from today was excellent.

#35 Posted by Seppli (7657 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

Love this year's format. I am entertained.

#36 Posted by Oldirtybearon (3065 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

These GOTY recap videos have been the most entertaining thing about this whole GOTY shindig so far. I find myself going "Oh, new Bombcast. Cool." and patiently waiting for the new recap video.

For me, Special Report was only marginally better than The Workplace, but all of that had to do with Brad throwing out Nuke (the narcotic macguffin from Robocop 2) and "dat Izzy Bizzy." That shit killed me in ways no Giant Bomb joke has before.

#37 Posted by Kerned (1119 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I thought they were both great. I've been trying to figure out what TV shows might be coming up. I think the Price is Right would be awesome, especially if they were somehow able to use the actual set (it's a CBS show after all).

#38 Posted by Demoskinos (8936 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

@Droop: Yeah, the order I've been doing things is Podcast> Personal Lists> GOTY Recap Vids but even then you get stuff spoiled because the personal lists have shots from the Recap vids! GAH!

#39 Posted by Neonie (178 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I thought they couldn't top last years, but godddamn to I love the overly produced look of this years antics. I am happy with the results.

#40 Posted by Disconnect (61 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I am thoroughly honked entertained.

#41 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4186 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I'm into it. I preferred the workplace because I was expecting a more direct TV parody again today. General news things works too.

#42 Posted by Zomgfruitbunnies (377 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I demand more blood and violence.

#43 Posted by Kingpk (78 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

There HAS to be bloopers for these and that would make for an easy Premium video in January.

The Workplace was just so goddamn spot on it is scary.

#44 Posted by dennisthemennis (415 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

I think it's been amazing so far, some of the best stuff they've ever done for anything. I don't get why some people are saying the acting is bad or mediocre; they're about as good as any amateur actors I've ever seen, and they're just 4 duders who play and write about games. Brad's surreptitious look into the camera in The Workplace as he walks out of the board room was some serious fucking skill.

#45 Posted by Cold_Wolven (1688 posts) - 4 months, 23 days ago

It's good and all but the theme is just striking me as out of place like why are they parodying TV shows and not video games. The acting and cinematography is really good but I'm still thinking last year's was the best.

#46 Posted by Ravenlight (7023 posts) - 4 months, 22 days ago

It features Brad in a variety of hats. I could not ask for more.

#47 Posted by DonChipotle (2151 posts) - 4 months, 22 days ago

"They let me be the alien" is up there in terms of funniest shit I've heard from GB this year.

#48 Posted by Napalm (9020 posts) - 4 months, 22 days ago

I was hoping The Workplace was going to be the through-line through the entire video series this week. That started really amazingly, but by the end it felt very end-of-scene, so I wasn't sure.

#49 Posted by SlashDance (1197 posts) - 4 months, 22 days ago

I don't really know why they're doing this, but I love them for it.

#50 Posted by Hunter5024 (2680 posts) - 4 months, 22 days ago

I was kind of let down the first day, I just didn't really feel like the tone was right for their brand of humor. Also I don't think parodying comedy actually works that well. The second day was awesome though, it sold me on the rest of the week.
