I'm looking for games that have a memorable storyline. I'll tell you some games I thought had an excellent story:
Psychonauts, Vampire Bloodlines, Fallout 1, Dragon Quest VIII, all the Lucasarts adventure games, every single GTA except IV which I expect to play it as soon as I get a next gen console, The Last Express, and that's all I can remember right now. Don't tell me Final Fantasy VII, I thought its story sucked (heresy!). Well anyway, please post and recommend some good stuff.
Recommend me some games with good stories
"Baldur's Gate 2This plus The Darkness. I really enjoyed that story, even though it was so short.
Neverwinter Nights 2
Freespace 2
Max Payne 2
Blade Runner
Indigo Prophecy
"
If you don't mind point&click adventure games, get The Longest Journey for sure. You can get it and its sequel bundled together cheap off steam.
"If you don't mind point&click adventure games, get The Longest Journey for sure. You can get it and its sequel bundled together cheap off steam."Not at all in fact it's one of my favorite genres. It's a shame that I haven't gotten to play that game yet. Another one I wanna play is Syberia.
Oh, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is supposedly an excellent point-and-click game.
In that vein, I hear Grim Fandango is good, but I know next to nothing about it.

underrated games."
"Silent Hill 1, 2, 3.That is merely due to translation errors from Japanese to English .
The writing is at times awful, but the interactive storytelling is the best the medium has to offer.

"Oh, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is supposedly an excellent point-and-click game.Really? All of the people I have talked about it with have never heard of it. A lot of people say "you mean Invisble War?" and then I sigh and facepalm.

"Bioforge
Little Big Adventure 2"
Holy hell, someone else remembers Bioforge? That game was great if you don't mind reading.
Second one to say Mass Effect, I think.
And assuming you've played most lucas arts games, you've played KotOR?
Jade Empire was also good.
Lets just say BioWare = good stories.

Fallout 3 obviously if you liked FO1
Vagrant Story PS1
FF tactics PS1
Colony Wars PS1
Drakan TAG PS2
Summoner 1 PS2
Morrowind:Tribunal XBOX1/PC
Oh, still rockin' last gen, huh? That's going to require me to think back many years...
If you have an Xbox, totally get Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Half-Life 2 is also excellent, but you know, maybe it's best to wait until you go next-gen and then you can just get The Orange Box for $20 and get 5 games in one. It's the better deal. Also, if you can find The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, you must play it. Totally excellent game. And well, if you can't, it's being remade for next-gen so it'll be there when you make the jump. Also, The Warriors is a must. It's made by Rockstar, and since you're clearly a GTA fan, I'm positive you'll love it. It's based on the movie, and it's a blast. It's a lot of fun. It's very cool, and also pretty freaking violent, but in a good way.
Resident Evil 4 is also a must. It's on PS2 and GC. God of War is another game with a totally rad story. Like others have mentioned, you gotta play some Metal Gear Solid. Though, the gameplay feels pretty dated these days, but just try to stick with it because the games are pretty great. Twisted Metal Black also had some rad stories, but those cutscenes sure don't look nearly as impressive as they did when the PS2 was new.
I'm going to toss in a suggestion for the Wing Commander games. They ain't Shakespeare, but they are entertaining. If you don't mind old, outdated graphics and gameplay, the Sierra adventure games are a must - King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Police Quest, Gabriel Knight, Space Quest, and singular games like Freddy Pharkas are a blast and have some fun stories to boot.
"Yeah I was going to suggest the Sierra games, though I couldn't even convince SuperMooseman to try them and he's supposedly an adventure game nut.
"
Really? That's a shame. It's a whole period of gaming that's generally been forgotten, but the games are still a blast. I can understand if he doesn't want to get into the text-based ones, though. The syntax takes some getting used to and might be a little intimidating if you didn't grow up with that type of gameplay. But there's no excuse to miss out on the point-and-click versions. I notice today that Space Quest has the hardest time being relevant, especially in terms of its now-outdated topical computer humor, but I still find certain parts of the games hilarious. I'm just really curious why they haven't been made as digital downloads yet. I know the manpower would take up some time and money, but surely there are enough of us old-timers around to offset those costs.
This has probably been mentioned already, but Bioshock has some very cool moments and methods of storytelling.
This game is like a very, very good book. CAN'T STOP READING!
The storyline of this game is way better than the storyline of any game in the Grand Theft Auto series, this is maybe one of the best stories ever made, for sure.
I've played Psychonauts, Vampire Bloodlines and the Masquerade: Redemption and I'm very sure this game is FOR YOU!
"Ravey said:They're quite hard to get to run though aren't they? I love the aesthetic of the space quest games, but only played half of one when I was a kid."Yeah I was going to suggest the Sierra games, though I couldn't even convince SuperMooseman to try them and he's supposedly an adventure game nut.

the new prince of persia actually has a pretty good story (and really surprising ending)........but the game itself is pretty repetitive
Ooh, since I mostly play a lot of story-oriented games, this might be a long list.
