You know, if they do hit 5,000 before the deadline and revert the changes before they ever go into effect then I think we will allways have to wonder if this was their clever plan all along.

Some people will always believe what they want regardless of the truth. Thing is though, they could come out and say we didn't plan this but we're gunna keep our promise and some people wouldn't believe it, but if they said we did plan this all along people would believe it because it goes along with their inherent resentment of Whiskey Media. I'm trying to be passive and calm about all this so I'm not biased either way, but I just don't think people will accept the truth unless it is the bad truth they want it to be.
I was going to subscribe, not because of anything they offer, just to help them out. From what ive seen of the live show so far though, it gives the impression that they (or more likley someone higher up in whiskey) are just trying to push the subscription onto people, rather than having a descrete donate button or something along those lines (although i stopped watching a while back). This 5000 people milestone incentive just backs up my doubts.
Sure, i still want to help out GB and Tested, but this is just making them look greedy, which in turn makes me feel like they dont deserve it. It feels more like someone in whiskey is pushing it though, rather than the the crew. So, nothing against them.
Either way, i wont be subscribing before the deadline, so thats one less, if that would even make a difference.
Only way I'd sub is if they were down to the last 50 or so, I'd chip in to make it free for all forever. The whole thing is some real nonsense and making this ultimatum just makes me all the more angry and alienated.
Also, if the dudes apologize before this is up and say the bombcast will be free and they're sorry for pissing people off, that would be cool too.
I subscribed because I admire what Whiskey Media is trying to do (staying independent, not answering to a corporate suit, etc); however, I disagree with splitting the Bombcast (but I understand the reasoning behind it).
Count me in. I disagree with the Bombcast split too, but I want to support the guys. If nothing else I owe them this for all the entertainment they've given me. Here's to the success of the program, and possibly a saved Bombcast.

I care a lot less about this impression of whether it would or wouldn't be "splitting the userbase", and more about the content of my bombcast. Where else can I get hilarious random tangents that last way longer than they perhaps should? I don't want that to disappear in the interest of time. I'll gladly subscribe as a way of saying thank you for allowing that kind of silliness to continue uninterrupted. On that same token, if the 'cast is split and manages to stay mostly true to its current chemistry, I'll probably go ahead and throw down a fiver in gratitude eventually. It'll just take a while longer to convince me to do so.
I dunno. I think this is a very convenient thing. It creates a line in the sand. If they get to 5,000 then i've paid 5 bucks once for forever instead of 50 a year. I don't think GB is worth 50 a year but its worth 5 bucks once. I think a fan of the site would being dishonest to say that ensuring the future of the bombcast is not worth 5 bucks paid once. If they hit 5,000 and don't do the bombcast changes, then Giantbomb is still all right in my book. If they don't hit 5,000, then i call shenanigans. If they hit 5,000 and eventually try to paywall podcast content ever again then we will all know unequivocally that Giantbomb is for jerks. This move by whiskey media has really made the controversy pretty straightforwrd for me.
Anybody else think that the monthlies are included in the tally because they have confidence that if you find your first month worth $5 then you'll likely just find the rest of the months worth it too? btw I don't listen to or watch bombcasts, maybe only done two or three.

I just think it's worth a shot. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and if it doesn't work for me, or I'm not happy I'm not obligated by a year. So I can just cancel.

Here's another scenario I'm looking at:
"Let's tell them if we get 5000 subscribers then we won't split the Bombcast"
"Well it's Friday and it's 10 AM PST and we have more than 5000 subscribers"
"Post up on twitter that we only hit 4000 subscribers".
What they lack is a little goal oriented animation to show the update of subscribers...between each segment they shoulda had an animation of a pint glass getting fuller as they get more subscribers...overflows; free full Bombcast for all.

Good idea, which probably could have made for additional subscribers. Anyways, I doubt they actually wanted to go back on their word of the Bombcast as going back on a plan that grand could make them feel... less than happy.
