Tourney was pretty lame aside from Nail, but no exhibitions is super duper lame especially after last week. I guess we can always cherish Yuri di AAAAAAAAAAA x2 vs himself x2.

Fuck it, I'm never betting on Alien Queen again.

Though given how unstable the site has been for the last week basically, it's barely even alluring to try to get back to where I was. I don't understand how people get the money they have. It took me days of grinding just to get to $4500. How the fuck do non-illuminati people get in the millions and then still make crazy bets?

It's weird, but this thing is actually the most fun when you're in the mines. I play way too conservative when I actually have money. In the mines you just always bet the upset, and when it happens it's the best thing ever.

Edit: Also, sometimes this seems like a horrific waste of time and then the entire chat sings Snake Eater and it's all worth it.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

In my first week with Saltybet, I ended up getting lucky and digging out of the mines with major upsets of about $10,000-25,000. But I ended up losing them on all-in bets on characters that were like 15-1 but had one weakness.

Anyway, I almost quit Saltybet altogether because no matter what I couldn't get above like $2,000 the past week. But this morning, cause my name is Andy, and my jersey number as a kid was 13, my lucky number basically, I went all in on Andy_Xiii, without looking up that he was 0-4, and won $84,000. So suddenly I'm top 200. Never going all in again, even for Rare Akuma vs Winnie the Pooh, in case a glitch happens or some shit. Once I'm top 100 players in the word I think I'll let it rest.

Amazing how PSXSQUAL dumps millions intentionally, down to like $2 mill yet climbs right back to $7 everytime.

I was reading this and then the next bet that came up was Andy_xiii vs Mystia and I have never been so weirded out in my life.

maybe its just me, but i realized that there actually is big tournaments happening this weekend and saltybet is deciding to keep doing its own mugen thing. I guess betting on real people in a tournament was just the stepping stone and they decided to not to do that anymore.

Supposedly because most DBZ characters are made by Mexicans (Mexicans love DBZ) and they do not properly adjust the damage scaling.

I think it's one of the many racist stereotypes within the fighting game community (or at least stream monsters). I know the crouching punches that can be used as uppercut anti-airs are often referred to as "mexican uppercuts" due to some idiotic stereotype that Mexicans don't have the execution ability to perform DP commands (never mind that KoF is big in Mexico and that game requires BRUTAL execution).

Following that line, I've always took it to mean supposedly Mexican-created DBZ characters (truthful or not—I know at least one of them is Brazilian) that have overpowered/one-hit KO-ing charge beams, because Mexicans would rather have something like that than characters who take skill to play. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems the case, as this stream and others in the FGC are no strangers to being kind of shitty. I love when the chat gets stupid and embraces the stupidity of MUGEN—the eruption of AAAAAAAs when Yuri di AAAAAAA is fighting, or what have you, but all the 'retard' and 'faggot' and 'nigga' and rape talk and shit is pretty embarrassing.

Is anyone any good at finding the characters used? I've been trying to find Overlord and Yuri di AAAAAAAAA for days, but Yuri only brings up Saltybet in Google and the only DL link for Overlord I can find is dead.

Does anyone have problems with the stream? Mine is consistently awful on the site. Every once in a while it'll run smoothly, but more often than not 480+ is unwatchable and 240 looks like shit (and sometimes even that is bad). It's just fine if I stream it from Twitch, but there's no convenient way of using the Twitch stream and having all the betting info at once.

Saltybet is a lot of fun. I just wish there was an effort to improve it more. The rich keep getting richer and you'll have to wait for real matches to even get a chance to get double what you have. Such a great concept for a game could be better if they pruned the characters to an extent. The metagame has been near solved right now especially if you have access to stats. You'll have your sephiroth beating a mike tyson or a patchouli losing to a hotaru, and even a pocketfighter winning a crazy match against characters with tough kits to deal with. Over time, everything will be damn near solved. I would say there was some skill to this, but it will be more about stats than A.I. scouting--maybe it's already there. There should be seasons implemented or some type of league system, otherwise we'll see guys like psxsquall bet $1111111 on matches he's sure to win for a very long time.

Prune the characters because things are one sided. On FGC majors or Salty Classics, there should be a win bonus on the house to actually make the bets more meaningful. Hopefully salty is doing something, because to me the fun is running out fast. It feels like one of those older mmorpgs right now: much of a grind of useless trash mobs (lopsided, obvious fights) to get to a raid boss you may not even beat (real matches like Dragon Claw vs Soujirou which might go 1:1. And the high rollers leave when they see an actual match) . Saltybet has the feel of these old mmos which were just grindfests right now, and it is a grindfest right now. Mugen does have a team 2v2 simultaneous mode. Perhaps this mode will help in the future?

edit: i wrote that mugen had a TOURNAMENT mode, it does not to my knowledge, and what i meant was "2v2 simultaneous mode"

@worsteverna: First off, lemme welcome you to Giantbomb! Hope you enjoy your stay here, homie!

Anyway, I totally agree with you. I was really big on SaltyBets about a week ago, but between the technical issues and life, my interest has kinda waned. The rich are still rich, I rarely get to see decent fights (It's either a one-sided matchup or both characters are ass), and I know just about every song on Salty's playlist. As others have mentioned in this thread, there are ways that Salty can improve this little thing he has going on, but he has to be willing to go through with it.

- Trim some of the fat around the roster. I have nothing against DBZ, but there's nothing fun about watching two charge characters with broken AI going at it. It wouldn't hurt to remove a couple of the Touhou, either. There's no need for every other fight to feature a busted DBZ character/Bullet Hell-focused Zoner.

- Try to sort out the technical issues.

- Do something about the rich folk punking out when the real matches take place. I don't know about the rest of you, but the best matches are the ones that include good AI, a chance for either party to win, and some flashiness for the hype (Choujin-characters, Caveman, most 71113s, the good Meltys etc...). I understand that some people are more conservative than others, but what's the point of getting all the Salty Bucks if you're just gonna hoard it all until you see another one-sided matchup? This is an area that could definitely use some improvement.

As a person that used to dabble with MUGEN back in Middle School, I love the fact that Salty has made it relevant again. I just hope that he manages to make necessary tweaks and adjustments so that this thing doesn't die waaaaaaay before its time. Have 2v2 Tuesdays/Thursdays, perhaps?

I got to $4500 in about 5 hours the 2nd day I joined. The trick is to bet big on close-odds matches and win. I think one of my big money makers was Gouken vs. Steel (everyone bet Steel because their first match was 5-3, but was mad close, 2nd one Gouken won 5-4) and then some match that Floren won with like 8:1 odds that I don't even remember exactly.

And then I lost it all on Sad Claps vs. Hulk. I was a little salty about that.

There's still upsets to be had, you just gotta sniff 'em out and then bet big on the right guy.

I went all in on Sakura without checking stats because I knew she was pretty busted, and was going up against a Naruto (most of which are usually trash). I was shocked to find the odds against me and started panicing when I checked and found his record at 22-1! Even though she won 3-0 I was sweating it the whole time.

Now that I'm in the top 100, I think I can get some sleep. :D

@mirado: Naruto Kun is the only legitimate naruto. He's really good. Honestly I was flabbergasted when I saw the odds, I put some change down on Naruto because I thought he was going to be the underdog. The salt miners are putting in work tonight, the odds on some of these matches have been fuuuuucked. If I had known Naruto was gonna be favored I woulda gone all-in on Sakura.

@example1013: I think part of that is due to some of the major upsets lately, giving people cash who never had it and then don't bother to change their betting habits. Shit like Sephiroth taking out Tyson distributed a lot of cash, and now you are just getting the other side of the swing.

But that Naruto match was a total shock to me. I've either avoided seeing him or just forgot that he was real, to the point that I expected to make perhaps a grand or two at best. Never did I expect to be sitting in six figures on THAT fight.

@yummytreesap: Pay $4 for one month, then make bigger risks on underdogs. Using the stats search, you can go all in on on characters that are 25/5 vs ones 3/15, and when someone is 9/13 against like a 14/9 win loss character, put about a third your money on the underdog.

@fluxwavez: You missed some pretty amazing matches: http://challonge.com/SC256P4 Might be worth a rewatch later. Esmerelda did the lay down boyfriend 1 hit super 3 times. Sakura beat the hell out of Shadow Gen who's a lot better than Shin Gouki so no clue what's with the odds; if she wins it all she had to take a hard route though.

If only Ivy's supers were good she could have a shot at getting beaten in 5 seconds by Chaos Hiryu.

T.Kawk/Mexican Typhoon have to be the lamest non projectile characters in saltybet mugen, at least Dragonclaw didn't have to lose to him.

IT'S KILLING ME NOT KNOWING!!

I always thought it was in reference to cheaply made Mexican products, not really about people. It only seems to be used on DBZ (which look super cheap!), not when like Cyclops or Ryu does a screen filling ray of light.
